I had one from new. It was the second worse new car I ever owned. 2litre engine on a 3 speed auto box kicking out just 131hp. Car was very unreliable as well so I was glad to see the back of it.
Surprised to see any love in the comments. I've got a '99 (now 20 years old). It's my weekend fun (cheap) car, still on the original head gasket (gasp!). Mopar Extra High rate springs, Koni adjustables, Modern Performance UDP, Thermal R&D exhaust, Mopar ECU and it's still brutally slow in a straight line. SUPER fun in the corners, including Auto-X. Love my little neon.
Stanisław Wiśniewski I am sure it was, since they had half a century to refine it, but 3 speeds in a 4 cylinder from the 90's is still a fail regardless of where it was sold.
+Super_Slav admittedly the automatics for these cars were a terrible idea (or recycling of an idea for that matter), but the close-ratio 5-speed manual made up for it.
If you want to praise an American small car, at least you should pick Ford Escort. It's miles ahead of the Neon. Even a Chevy Cavalier is better than the peeling paint Neon :)
It's probably well known that the US and UK escorts are two very different cars, However, the First Gen Focus blew everything out of the water only a matter of months after this was aired.
I have owned and driven an ACR, and a couple of RT's in my time. These are amazing cars. The chap in the video doesn't seem to understand pushing the clutch in and is guessing you have to lock and unlock the key fob. I never knew that to be a problem, but then again that's just common sense here in North America it seems.
I had one for a couple years worked ok for me nothing special about it mine had a cold air intake when I bought it so it sounded pretty cool LOL I had a second Generation one btw not this one
Still the best steering ive ever driven. Ive driven evo9, e34 520, 525, and 540i bmw's, e46 316i, e39 520i, some vw passat, nissan micra, nissan primera 1995 and 1998 models and so many others. None has come close to Neon's steering and cornering. Oh my it's so good I'm gonna buy one when I get extra crash :O
Fond memories. I had the 2ltr auto for 10 years. Great car, good to look at and easy to drive. Nothing ever went wrong with it and when I sold it, it didn't have a spot of rust. Only niggle it needed a 4 or 5 speed changer because low end torque was not enough for 3 speed, but when you got it revving the engine was great.
Another autocrosser here. Picked this lil bugger off a tow yard for $500 (about 401 quid). 2 door 150hp DOHC version. No A/C and manual windows for extra light weight configuration. According to the odometer it has 300,000+ miles (482803.2km) but I swear it must've had an engine swap because it doesn't feel that worn at all. At first I got it just to beat on it as my weekend rallycrosser but I quickly fell for the car and got it street legal so I could make it my daily driver. Keep up with the maintenance and window adjustments the Neon it will treat you right. (After the head gasket issue was fixed from the factory)
I remember reading on article about these and the reviewer said that they were very unsafe that the would fold up like a loaf of bread if it hit anything. It really was a terrible looking thing too but the revamped model did at least look a bit better. That dash as well just terrible.
Ipc International Security we made the discovery of the Vehicle Left Abandoned with the Ski Lift Ticket on the Windshield, and Altered Temporary License Plate
Under the Chrysler umbrella, it was always Chrysler > Dodge > Plymouth. Calling the Neon a "Chrysler Neon" turns that on its head...but I guess it's less nonsensical in the UK where the Chrysler hierarchy isn't common knowledge.
Fool doesn't even know what he is talking about I have the records on my neon and it was built in 1994 but the official release date was pushed to 1995 but it's really a 94. These cars are hugh POS!
did anyone else notice that he left the keys in the car? probably because he didn't know how to get them out lol

I remember seeing a few Neon's with the 3 speed auto and it was dreadful.
I still drive my all black 1998 neon coupe. 65,000 miles and near perfect condition.
"It's solid, it's reliable..." Yeah, sure.
it's really bad

All of my neighbors had one hahaha this was back in like ‘05
The automatic had 3 gears, only 3, straight out of 1960.
+Super_Slav on the other hand it was really reliable. But yes - 3 gears. In 1998. In Europe. Not really a good idea.

+Super_Slav there's one answer for this: american car industry management in 90's was retarted :)
+Super_Slav admittedly the automatics for these cars were a terrible idea (or recycling of an idea for that matter), but the close-ratio 5-speed manual made up for it.
It was soon replaced by a 4 speed
Most Neon's have disappeared because the only place that would buy them was scrapyards.
Genuinely one of the worst cars ever. Dull, flimsy and unreliable, none left on the road I wonder why

Absolute Unit. What a dream. I want one. I need one. Neon.

That looks just like my car same colour and all loool 1998 baby and still my daily driver lol
Hey what’s the color of that car?
I had one for a couple years worked ok for me nothing special about it mine had a cold air intake when I bought it so it sounded pretty cool LOL I had a second Generation one btw not this one

Neons' are one the biggest pieces of shit ever, look it up.
Then a piece of shit i s better to drive on twisties than an e34 540i.
Funny but true :)
+eamh2002 I want one too, but cant find one with low mileage and has all the maintenance kept up.
i got this, not in a very good shape though, hope to make it awesome one day. coz its not that noisy as camaro, but a cool car too!! lol
That's unfortunate the UK didn't get the 2.0 DOHC model, 150 Hp with the close ratio gearbox made for a very fun and sprightly little car
The cs had the 3.94 gearbox :)
a phenomenal break in the case, Tacoma Mall Parking Lot, a White Dodge Neon left Abandoned in the parking lot for a week.
Had one in green, Plymouth neon 2 door ... Still miss it after 2 decades. Very very pretty car .
It's funny seeing them praise the Neon, even though today it's known as the modern Chevette.
Driving one today. Allmost 300 k km on it. Still going strong and allmost no rust☝️👌

Frank Burns the Plymouth Neon was better equipped than the Dodge version, but in this area Chrysler still takes the cake
i wishd id had some day chrysler neon and saratoga
got one only 23000 miles best car i have driven
The realist pony car
"great fun to drive"
Gasaline
I love Neon cars, regardless :3
I STILL HAVE MINE 97 4 DOOR WITH MY OLD FORD RANGER
