    @3:10 mine is definitely not that easy ;) ... but thank you! I figured the penetrating oil was critical to doing this. It doesn't help that I have to do this in -15C weather but so it goes :)

    • @TotalTechnik

      Yes, absolutely. If you get a sticky one then the penetrating oil will make it a LOT easier and could be the difference between getting it off or not! SOmetimes they can be REALLY tight!

    The water spray wont come out correctly. It leaks. Any idea how to fix this?

    • @Snowdog216
      @Snowdog216 8 місяців тому

      A few guesses. The rubber gasket around the removable piece is worn out/dried out. So maybe try to soften that up with some armour all or white grease. Or get a a new one, if they are available. Can the rubber gasket/washer be replaced? Like from a plumbing supply store? Get a small wire, like picture haging wire, or the wire inside the bread bag tie, and run that in the jets, they may be clogged.
      Oops, you installed a new are, so assuming the new arm also includes the water jet part then the gasket should be new.
      I would say it may be properly seated.

    Thank You - I have a 2015 Q7 - I got the cover and main bolt off exactly as described - Thanks! but no amount of wobbling is getting the old arm to release and come off. I am really afraid of breaking the window or rubber seal gasket from underneath. is there another trick?

    • @TotalTechnik
      @TotalTechnik  4 роки тому

      Stubborn ones can be a NIGHTMARE! We've had a few like that when it feels the window is likely to break before the arm comes off! We would try penetration fluid several times. You can also buy slide hammer type tools, and screw type tools for removing stubborn wiper arms, but if it's really badly on there sometimes it is almost impossible to get it off without damaging something. Penetration spray should be your best friend.

I also wondered about putting the bold back on and really wrenching is down, just to make the arm move and crack the seal, then ratchet the bold back to level and use that as a leverage point. Push down on the bolt in the middle while wiggling the arm? Thoughts?

    I'v got a broken fluid tube inside that fitting, have you ever had to replace one, it's a tiny copper rigid one to from the plastic intake. Don't know how it connects inside or what comes as a replacement

    • @TotalTechnik
      @TotalTechnik  4 роки тому

      Yes, your replacement unit should come with the pipe. Also, Audi actually make repair kits for these motors as they break a lot. It depends on the exact break, but one of those kits might be good for you. You'd need to check direct with Audi what the kit includes as it's been a while since the last one we bought and fitted (worked perfectly for our issue however!)

  • @GaryThomson100

    Hey at the end when you take it off can a new one just go straght on then put the bolt back on?

    • @TotalTechnik
      @TotalTechnik  8 років тому +1

      Yes, that's correct. The new one just slips into place and then tighten up the nut - job done.
      It's worth noting the position of the original arm/blade in relation to the rear window (i.e. where the restiung blade lies on the window) before removing. You can do this using a piece of masking tape stuckto the window under the blade, then draw a line in pencil on the paper along the blade. Remove the arm, and when you fit the new one you have a line to align it with.

    Thanks for the video!! You saved my day! Question! My back wiper engages fine and then gets stuck/stops half way into the cycle (on teh opposite side). I can still hear the motor running for maybe seven or so seconds after which it quits and leaves the arm there. If I try again, it will engage the motor but will not move the arm at all. I can move the arm back with my hand while the motor runs, but then it would do the same thing allover again. What could cause this??

      Removing is not too tricky, but two people highly recommended!!! Alignment on the refit can be trickier, but be patient and you'll get it.
      You'll also have to disconnect your plugs on the wiring loom and pull those back out of the way.
      I expect we'll do a removal video on this, but it's not on the currently filming schedule and so may be a while unfortunately.
      Best of luck with it!

      The spray is not essential, but can be very useful for freeing off stubborn/stuck parts...
      It's just a penetration spray, aka dismatling spray. There are many brands available, and I use one called Plus Gas here in the UK which I find is good.
      If you don't have a dedicated penetration spray then WD40 is better than nothing and also helps quite a bit. It just gets some lubrication into the joint and helps it come apart.
      But can still be done dry if needs be. The spray just helps make it a little easier sometimes :-)

    Well it is verry useful the video but my arm is really stuck have allot of rust around the bolt and no chance to get iit off ..any suggestion?

    • @TotalTechnik
      @TotalTechnik  7 років тому

      Yes, if it is rusty then get a good penetration spray. We use Plus Gas, but there are plenty of other brands, any good penetration spray should do it. Fill the hold up around the nut with the spray, put paper and a cloth underneath to soak up any leakage ad protect your paintwork. Leave it for at least an hour. Longer is better. Leave it overnight if you can. Then try it again. Try rocking side to side rather than just pulling straight also.
      Sometimes then can be a real pain and you might have to get heavy handed if it's still stuck hard. There is a chance you can damage the rear screen wiper motor if you do have to get heavy handed, so that is a risk that you may need to take if all else fails.
      Good luck!

      What's worked for me has been to remove the nut from from the stem, flip it over and rethread it a couple of turns. Then, take a pair of adjustable pliers and place one tip under the wiper arm and the other on the upside down nut and squeeze. It uses the nut as leverage and the wiper arm should dislodge.

      Hey there. Been a while since I've done much on a B5 TBH, but the logic would suggest it should move with the arm, otherwise the arm would block the spray. But I don't remember offhand TBH, I'd need to investigate.

    dosn't come off ... I've tried anything I could think of 😠

      Have you tried a good penetration spray? Sometimes they can be on really, really tight due to a build up of rust of general grunge. If you can't get it off by hand, and you've tried a good penetration spray then you may have to get yourself a windscreen arm removal tool. They are fairly cheap (sub £10/$10). The basic ones are a two arm clamp with a thread that you tighten which puts pressure on the arm.
      If you have to use one then bear in mind it may damage the arm itself, especially as it's a bit awkward to get them on to the rear wiper arm. Secondly you should put the nut back on with a couple of turns (loose) so the centre of the tool has something to press against (otherwise you may damage the tip of the wiper motor where the fluid comes out). And finally, worst case scenario is that it is possible to damage the wiper motor if it's really stuck on there bad - but you it may be a case that it's a risk you'll have to take if it simply has to come off.
      Best of luck!
