The Book Cafe was a pleasant surprise for sure! FunWhole are doing a great job with their sets as of recent times, I’m intrigued to see what’s to come!

Including the light kit in the set and instructions to do at the stage of initial building is brilliant, I wish Lego would do that for their modulars - really neat to design set with wires in mind

I totally agree with you! There’s a lot here that Lego can learn, the custom bricks for the wires is genius!

I honestly don't want Lego to include lights as they're already priced through the roof, and adding lights would put them out of reach for far too many people...

Appreciate it a lot!! Hope you found it helpful, for an alternative brand they’re producing really well made builds!

Not sure why but alot of these sets are corner lots, which makes it challenging for adding building together

Very good review. Agree with the few points that you outlined. I might have to lift a few bricks in the front to place some with attachment points for minifigures (hope I can find that color? In Lego bricks) yes the minifigures are a bit painful especially the arms and hands. It is interesting that they have not numbered or labeled their bricks, would be easier for people who buy many sets and could open the door for selling loose bricks 🤷‍♀️.
Anyway I really enjoyed this set, very nice details in the interiors and the exterior looks fabulous. The bonus was the light kit - first time trying lighting and it was not difficult.

Thank you!! 🙏 The point you made with the number pieces is a good one, and I agree it would make a life a lot easier for people needing spare parts etc.
I think the lighting kits are made even easier because the sets are designed to have lights run through them, also the instructions as you probably found are nice and clear!

Thanks for the excellent presentation of an excellent set from an excellent brand.
Regarding lighting: FO have definitely stepped up their game recently. The problems you discussed were very present in their first sets but when I built the Medieval Watchtower (ref. F9027), I was pleasantly surprised to see they now use LOADS of grooved pieces to let cables through, a real game changer. And for that mattet, the instructions are impeccable.
I'm really considering buying a 6th FO product, now. Good job!

Thanks so much for this, really means a lot! So good to hear you’ve noticed FO has improved as well. I’ve not built the Medieval Watchtower myself however I can totally agree that the grooved pieces for cables are a great addition! I’m excited to see how they continue to improve in the future and which set are you thinking of getting?

@@YellowBrickPics I don't have plans for the moment - I lack the means and space to buy, build and display the numerous sets I'm interested in.
If I had to choose one FO set, I'd probably go for the Antique Store, to compensate not being able to buy the Palace Cinema. Other than that, I'd probably go for the Western Saloon or the Sheriff's Office. They'd be nice, populated with the Toy Story minifigures, wouldn't they?
And if I could only pick a cheap small set, It'd certainly be the Carpentry Van, for I really dig it and can't remember any LEGO vehicle in that colour.

  • @exposwin

Thanks for the review! Would you recommend this or the Antique Store? Which do you think would integrate best into a modular city?

    • @YellowBrickPics
      @YellowBrickPics  3 місяці тому +5

Of course, hope you found it useful! I think the book cafe would be slightly easier based on the flat wall side (replace the windows for bricks), also in terms of height it’s similar to other modular’s by Lego. The antique store on the other hand is a lot bigger in size and with some external cabling on the outer walls (plus the access point to the wires) it may be slightly more challenging!
Short answer; Book Cafe, but if you want a bigger building then go with the Antique Store!
*worth noting that both builds are corner plots
*the book cafe has a foot print of 18 by 32 studs whereas the antique store is 32 by 32 studs
      Hope this helps!

@@YellowBrickPics The footprint was my biggest complaint. It's bigger than a 1/2 baseplate so to put it on a mils plate requires a full base. That leaves a lot of extra space to fill.

Where is the best place to get these in the UK?

I'd recommend their official site as they often have sales on. If not Amazon also have some of the sets available!

It’s got some beautiful details! I’d choose delivery from China (it has no limitations in terms of location) for the UK

I can’t believe I have to ask this but how do I use these instructions? Everyone says they’re so easy to use but I’ve been using Lego for ages and I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing. They’re just numbers on top of numbers with no indication of what different numbers are supposed to mean or where to find the parts I’m looking for. I’ve got all these different bags and they’ve each only got some of the parts eluded to on any given page. Please tell me I’m not gonna have to empty every single bag at once to put this together.

Did anyone have issues with the side window pieces having a big distorted circle around the injection points? Kind of ugly.

Clearly no 12 year old boys at the company board meeting where they decided what their company name would be because any school kid could tell you that calling a toy company "Fun Hole" not the best idea ever.

The fake glasses really do make a fitting touch when reviewing such a scholarly set!
