    Lego is expensive in both time, money, and space used. I remember when I first got back into it and heard people say that they r out of space but me with my piddly lil collection thought "oh that won't happen to me cause I will never amass that amount of parts"... Well, I was wrong. But its worth it😂

    • @Junk_Draw3r
      @Junk_Draw3r 7 місяців тому +3

      Expensive in space used! Yes!! I got back into Lego a couple years ago and as of this year… my collection is too big I don’t really have space for it 😭 but I don’t wanna get rid of the bulk cuz I make a lot of MOCs

    • @hoarder66
      @hoarder66 7 місяців тому +2

      @@Junk_Draw3r lmao exactly. I had to go from it being stored in a closet, to being stored in a closet and bedroom, to having to move the office downstairs and the bedroom to the office leaving the larger bedroom for the Lego which I can't complain cause it is badass but now that it's full, what am I to do?🤣

    • @renzo260

      Hahahah! I had a LOT of Lego at home initially but had to bring everything to my office. My girlfriend didn't like the bookshelves being filled with Lego cause "where should I put all of my books?!" 😂

    Simply looking at real buildings and integrating elements from them into your MOCs really does help a lot. That's exactly what helped me start making decent-looking modular buildings.

    Those are some great tips. I've got a line-up of modulars myself as well and decided to add some of my own. I'm not quiet happy with most of the designs, so this'll help me redo them and to make them fit better with the official sets.
    I've also noticed that for some other custom models I've created, it was cheaper to source the parts from LEGO directly, instead of browsing Bricklink. Especially if a lot of the parts are available in the PAB walls in the stores. XD

    I´m totally up to you! It feels like TLG picked here randomly a building out of the Franchise to bringe it on shelfs. The Gringotts Bank has been an iconic place in the movies and looks fantastic (even if the underground hasn´t been a necessary build for me). Same for the Diagon Alley. But this set feels a bit displaced for me (only in the movie it has been burned down - in the books nothing like this ever happened). So waht´s that special about it!?!
    In my eyes it looks like a "playset" and not like a "UCS" one. Sure the rooms are build very well sand a lot of easter eggs are in, but I´m missing THAT one specific extra which triggers me.
    For me not worth the price as I´m missing the great added value related to the originally released playset...

    Great video! I’m working on an extension for the Natural History Museum. Initially, I planned to use parts from the Haunted House since they are the same color, but there weren't enough compatible pieces, so I started buying bricks from Bricklink. I’m not even halfway through, and the cost is already around €400, so I’m not sure if I’ll take this approach for other buildings. I might just get more copies of official modular buildings and modify them to fit my city layout and design.

    • @renzo260

    Thanks so much for this video! I appreciate it. I would like to hear a little more about size and scale... How high are typical walls per floor for a minifig modular, what's a minimum depth X width per room? What size do you like to make sidewalks? I wanna try making my own modulars, but it's hard! lol

    • @renzo260
      @renzo260  5 місяців тому

      The sidewalks are 8 studs deep, that's kind of a must if you want everything to connect properly. Besides that, you can honestly do whatever you feel like. I think usually the floors are about 10 bricks tall but if you want a taller one just go for it! It's Lego, so your creativity is the limit really

    Your town hall is nice, no discussion there, but it does something, real Lego modulars don't do - it has a quite obviouse symmetrie. Although this honors the reference, it breaks the typical modular esthetic. I would have added a tower or something like that to one of the wings to break the symmetry. Otherwise very useful video, thank you!

    • @renzo260
      @renzo260  7 місяців тому +1

      That's actually very helpful feedback, thanks! When I was building it, I did feel like it was almost a little off but couldn't put my finger on it. I think making it not as symmetric could be nice indeed. I'll definitely make some changes down the line and keep this in mind!

      I order from both the Lego website and Bricklink. You just need to compare some of the parts before buying them. Sometimes they're cheaper on the Lego website. I've found that that's mostly the case with tiles in popular colors. A 2x2 light grey tile is like 7ct from Lego and 15ct on Bricklink last time I checked

      Imagine having to sort your own Lego collection and finding all the parts you need for a random set from 2009. Except you aren’t you, you are the Lego company. They can’t make everything all the time, and they can’t store enough bricks to supply old sets forever.

    • @renzo260
      @renzo260  7 місяців тому +3

      I bet this is exactly it. And you can generally source most of the parts from Lego anyways. If you're okay with not having a specific printed pieces that only came in one set, it's easy to replace
