Ever since they came back from the pandemic, Hetfield's vocals on tour have upped to another level. I don't know if it was the two years of rest or what, but he has been killing it vocally.
For me, it started with his vocals on the Hardwired album. That whole record had a great sound. But, James stood out.

Super pumped for METALLICA! Can’t wait for the album! This is track 6 on the album, so we still have the opener and closer to look forward too, not too mention tracks 2,3,4,5 which in METALLICA history are always great songs! I’m just floored.

if you like all the stuff BEFORE Load, ReLoad and St. Anger - like I do - you should definitely check out the two previous albums because Hardwired is like an extension of Puppets and Death Magnetic is an extension of Justice

The drums in the middle and towards the end sound a lot like Overkill by Motörhead. Probably an intentional nod to one of their biggest influences, and they played it a few times during the big 4 shows.

It’s got definite kill em all but even Megadeth vibes in how relentless it is. I don’t know what I expect from them now but what I don’t hear much these days is light and shade from them. It’s canny but I don’t love it on first couple of listens. It looks like James has been through a lot and the depth of those early lightning lyrics are something I miss from modern Metallica

Last two albums were good too st anger and lulu we're bad but death magnetic and hardwired were both great
not sure how u can get side tracked and not listen to a certain band because u checkin out other bands ha...theres always time for the bands u used to listen to....tho u never really missed much with metallica...load/load was there last best albums...3 after it wasnt too good...soem cool tracks here and there tho....this tracks cool...hope new albums is not long winded and no dam double album again....anyways enjoy...let the music have a constant flow. from minty in bham uk

there better songs on Death Magnetic and Hardwired such as All Nightmare Long .The Unforgiven 3. Dream No More. Confusion and Spit out the Bone. check that out!
Spit out the Bone has killer parts but needed to be trimmed back a LOT, something they've been bad at for a long long time. Lux Aeterna smokes the rest of those songs.

I want to give Metallica the benefit of the doubt, but they have continually disappointed me. This single is absolutely horrid. I hate to be that guy, but the only improvement is James' vocals. The guitar writing is palatable for clear channel radio and that is it. Lars finally wrote a drum part he can play live with out blowing it. (Which he does almost every single show) People are comparing this to Kill 'Em All and I just don't hear it. This is no Ride the Lightning. I do not hear the roots of the band unless you are considering the roots to start with Load and Re-Load. I hope this is the weakest single on the record because I absolutely hate this song. It is lifeless and not at all creative. Kirk Hammett plays a great solo and that's basically it.
I would love for Metallica to make a valiant return to form, but they simply won't. Kreator did it, Megedeth did it, Death Angel did it, Slayer sorta did it along with a few others. This song does not reflect the Metallica people are claiming this to be. I will look forward to the rest of the record because if this is the worst song on the record it will give me hope. Again, I hate to be that guy but this song is basic and lazy.
The drums are WAY too high in the mix. They overpower everything else.
They have been since Justice. When your drummer is a co-songwriter on every song, that’s what happens. I just don’t know if Lars can keep up with this live. Heard some recent live performances and you could tell that his timing was off. He’s definitely lost a step at his age.

@@anthonydalicandro8848 I am no super fan of Megadeth. Personally find Death Angel to be my favorite American thrash band. My point is Megadeth is still recognizable by most people. Metallica has become more and more neutered by the record. They were a good band until the Load/Re-Load era. Garage Inc had some good moments, but I find them lack luster now. They are far better players than they allow themselves to be on the records. I find that sad.
