I get it, I should’ve listened to the studio version! This wasn’t an issue in my first video but I will take note in my next Pink Floyd reactions, you can stop commenting it now 😂 Much love!
Listen to both. :) The original has the pure studio sound, this version has some added elements, as well as the visuals. It's the next song from the album you need to react to - and not just the album version either.
Live versions are so much fun to see how they are making this music, and for simply having visuals to look at - and it’s obvious Pink Floyd is amazing at creating those visuals. But I’ll give you a significant reason to go and listen to the studio version. You should even do this video. This song melds into the next song, both musically - and importantly- thematically in such an intertwined way, that they are really two parts to one song. The basic meaning of this song, you already mentioned in your reaction - but the form of the narrative is the progression of life. My personal thought is that the bells at the beginning are birth and the drums are childhood. But certainly, the first verse is the narrator being young with time to kill. The second he is busting his butt during middle age trying to make up for lost time and get ahead in the rat race of life, the third he is aging and winding down in a way that sounds like retirement to me, and by the end of the song, the last lines are “the tolling of the iron bell, calls the faithful to their knees, to hear the softly spoken magic spells.” Thats a church, it’s a funeral. The end of the song is his death. Time is up. So what is the next song on the album that the music and theme just flows right to? It is an absolutely beautiful piece called “the great gig in the sky”. The afterlife. IMHO, it’s a continuation of this song. And truly, they necessitate being listened to together as one. Maybe this perspective will inspire you to do it again with the studio version with both songs, and with this insight into the song adding some complexity and depth to the meaning and how that next song also tugs at your heartstrings. Look forward to maybe hearing you do that. All the reactions to this song online I have seen, never include these two as one.
I'm MUCH older than you and this is SO much a story of my (OUR) existences. Before you know it, our meagre existence is over and we don't even get to hear "the iron bell or the magic spell". Absolutely Brilliant!, as always.
There is "Music" and there is "Pink Floyd". They brings you somewhere out of your mind! 50 years ago Pink Floyd were already 200 years ahead of everybody!
Yes, Pink Floyd's music is personal as it hits each person differently and possibly similarly as well depending on your life experiences. It doesn't even have to be the first time hearing it, could be a different feeling as you get older and listen to it.
Any first experience is a first experience and this concert in its entirety is phenomenal in its production and quality. Yeah you will have people say that you need to listen to this or that (take it on board) but also this is your experience and watching someone hearing these amazing musicians for the first time is the coolest. Pink Floyd are true artists and are more than just sounds.......... Feel the soul, colours and atmosphere they create and enjoy.
The essence of time is to appreciate the little things that truly are the things we love. However you must work to have the pleasure of old age and that is when we really understand that appreciation and warming your bones by the fire is so inviting to a tired old man.
The Dark Side of the Moon is one of those albums that's best listened to all the through. Not all songs are equally great, but it has a real flow to it. The song after Time, The Great Gig in the Sky, is my favorite from the album, but mostly for the studio version with Clare Torrey's fantastic vocals.

From a cognitive point of view, we see time passing as a proportion of our lives, and thus as we age, years actually do feel shorter for everybody, as they are each a smaller fraction of your memory. So this song resonates for everybody, I feel... ironically it's timeless. I could say a lot more about it, but I'll leave it there. Great reaction Jess, very much enjoying your stuff! 😃
Most of Floyd's songs have long intros, and also an amazing guitar solo by David Gilmour. He has been performing for almost 60 years. Now at the age of 78 he will be touring again and releasing a new album in September. Please check out "High Hopes" from the pulse concert. To me, it is the most beautiful song ever . If you want to see him today, please check out "Between Two Points". He does this song with his daughter Romany Gilmour. It will touch your heart.
Greetings from Miami. I found it interesting that during the intro, you commented that it seemed “futuristic,” and I agree; yet this concert took place in London 30 years ago in 1994. Pink Floyd was definitely ahead of its time.
@@vernhoke7730 I'm a little ashamed to admit that I had to be convinced to even listen to the album at first. The kid that introduced me to them was such a putz. I didn't like him, so I didn't like them. *snort* I learned.
Hi Jess, I'm so glad my algorithm had you pop up in my YT page, no doubt because of your reaction to Time. I had the good fortune back on July 15, 1994 to attend the Pulse concert when they performed it at the Silverdome in Detroit, Michigan. The ticket price was $32.50 (the limo from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada and back was a wee bit more). Please take lots of time with Pink Floyd, it's a very large library and pretty much all good. Anything from the Pulse concert is amazing, even straight. Anyway, love your reactions, so many folks can't be quiet and what they're saying is just noise, your appropriate and timely responses are appreciated. I'm sure your card is full for a while but a couple of suggestions I have are Within Temptation - And We Run & Memories and Electric Callboy - Ratatata & F*#*boy. Cheers
This concert covers music that Pink Floyd produced over the course of 30 years and is almost a "best of" compilation. Us old folk matured with the band and their music became even more relatable and transcendental - sounds corny I know, but I can tell straight off that you have an old soul that responds to this on a deep level. Like us you will come to appreciate the reason why P.F.'s music has stood the test of "Time". They bear listening to again and again because the music nourishes your soul. My favourite from "Pulse" is still " Keep Talking" (lasers, lots of lasers!) but each song is a thing of beauty. Peace.
I'm 67 now but back in 1994 I was here at this concert at earls court London. I remember it like was yesterday and often play the DVD, I've been lucky enough to have seen Floyd six times live over the years from the first one in 1975 and 1994 this one
Very enjoyable reaction. Made me laugh when you said this was the longest intro to a song. You might consider Pink Floyd's Shine on You Crazy Diamond parts 1-5, the studio version if you really want to hear what a proper intro to a song is all about.
Thank you for the reaction and welcome to the world of Floyd. These guys will change you and open your mind, seriously. Enjoy the ride like all of us Floydians have and continue to do so!!
great reaction, im pleasd that you are enjoying your pink floyd journey, id recommend that you try "HIGH HOPES" or "COMFORTABLY NUMB" from the same pulse concert
And if you haven't done it yet, you need to do the song that follows immediately after this one - Great Gig in the Sky. It's arguably the best song ever "written." There, I said it.
Don't listen to these people who say you should listen to the studio version first or listen to the live version first. Yes, the studio version is usually the truest to the artist's vision, but the point is you are listening to amazing music made by master musicians. If it moves you it's all good. Looking forward to your reactions, have you ever heard of Klaatu?
I’ve hypothesized that the Pink Floyd intros are designed to put the listener’s brain into a pre-determined state. For instance, in “Time” the alarms, bells and chimes confuse the brain and basically causes it to do a ‘soft’ reset. The next section slowly rebuilds a sense of order so that by the time the lyrics begin your thoughts flow in sync with the music. This technique can be found in many Pink Floyd tracks. “Shine On You Crazy Diamonds” is one of my favorite examples of this. Pink Floyd music is ‘timeless’ and will stay popular for many years to come. Thank you for your enjoyable video and enjoy your journey with this band.
The intro to TIME does have several different meanings and musical perspective sides / angles built into it. First the bells, chimes and alarm clocks......the reference to time is obvious, but also our day often starts with a set , timed alarm and bells often signify a time or significant event. Then you have the consistent , ever present percussion that is symbolic of seconds......always their, ticking away in perfect TIME. Then you have other instruments and even drums added to the constant rythm of the initial percussion beats. These other sounds have no time or rhythmical pattern......as our own lives are spasmodic and by chance, with no logical pattern or timing......then eventually the song starts. Most musicians listening to TIME for the first time, get lost in the absence of Time within the added musical notes of the intro. All their career Timing has been of utmost importance to all quality music......but here is music they are enjoying with NO common timing. Just as our lives, successes, failures and death are not ordained, ordered, planned or following any time structure.....and all living time comes to an end. Here the end is The Great Gig In The Sky. Time and The Great Gig were created to be listened to together, as one song in 2 very different parts. Pink Floyd is a live band and normally best heard live.....but for Time and The Great Gig the original vinyl or CD is by far the best, and probably worthy of being considered at the top of all musical achievements.....from any gender and time period.
Their live performances are amazing but I recommend studio version before do the live. I think it will give you a greater appreciation of the live performance.
Pink Floyd is great! They perform great live. My suggestion is this: one should not listen to a live performance of a song on their first listen. Songs are meant to be enjoyed more than once and one loses something; one misses something when trying to kill two birds with one stone (i.e. hearing a song first time & hearing a band perform live). Other than that, I'd suggest Pitselah by Elliot Smith. Only because I was literally just listening to it. It's not epic like Floyd, simply iconic
Dark Side of the Moon is an album you never forget. "Time" is one of the key reasons why. This is one of those rare times when the studio/album version is even better than this live version. Even if you don't react to it, please listen to when you can, you'll be glad you did.
It’s weird because my first Pink Floyd video it wasn’t mentioned and everyone is so mad at me now on my 2nd one 😂 I have made note though for my upcoming ones!
@@YManCyberDude Wish You Were Here was the first one. I have literally no clue why people are so mad, I’ve had to delete comments because they’ve become personal towards me which I think is insane!
Your reactions are fantastic. I hope you decide to go down the PF rabbit hole as you will not be disappointed. A bad PF song just doesn't exist. May I suggest you listen to Comfortably Numb and you will hear the BEST ever guitar solo.
If you want a better sense of what it was like to actually be there and experience that light show, check out the PULSE version of "One Of These Days". 🤩 If you're ready to watch - arguably - 'the greatest concert performance ever recorded', check out "Comfortably Numb".
Floyd without Roger Waters is just a great band. With Waters its an Epic, mind blowing, take you to another world great band. I love David, Richard and Nick and as great as they are they never reach to levels of pure epic without Roger Waters
Legolas, Elf warrior of the Lord of the Rings, member of the Fellowship, set 60 years later. Kind of a plot spoiler girls, he's not going to die, either is Grandelf as you cutely put it, or Bilbo. And a few others if you take Moria tombs into account.
Happy belated 4/20😎 Whatever it cost to go to this concert, was worth it.🤑🤩 I had a great uncle who ultimately lived 112 years. When I was in High School he told me that living a long time was like taking one day away for every year you live. Now that I'm 63 it makes perfect sense. (non-sequitur)
This was good of course, however, for sheer purity and technical excellence, the studio version is much better. I was at the pulse concert and was left stunned so I am speaking as a 50 year plus fan with an entire library of Pink Floyd.
You seem ready to let Pink Floyd take you down its rabbit hole. I would be honored if you would allow me to serve as your guide. Next up: Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited) And also: Pink Floyd - On the Turning Away Remastered 2019
LOL PPl are so sensitive on versions. Just roll with it. How can you possibly know which ver to start, but I will say this, when you find something that moves you, make time to find alt versions. Pulse is Epic b/c it offers some of the best versions of of a PF tune imo, but a few PF songs shine on studio versions (Dark Side Moon LP, Welcome to the Machine LP, The Wall LP). I do agree Time studio is special. It locks you in where you can't escape - melody, guitar solo, vocals, meaning...
Altho Floyd's performances are great, you REALLY should ONLY listen to the studio version in _almost_ every case. That will be the artist's original sound and intent of how the song is supposed to be heard. You missed out in this example, everything on the original album this is from is a work of art in music history, one of the all time highest selling albums for a reason, hence MUST be heard in it's intended context. Very difficult to translate a lot of music in a live setting...it has it's own appeal, but the original magic needs-needs to be heard on the studio album. It's an experience unto itself.
We can tell by watching the reactions to this song, especially, when a person misses the most important section . . . . . "ten years have got behind you, no one told you when to run . . . you missed the starting gun" . . . . . you had no reaction, at all. A lot of people get caught up in the music and miss that.
"This has to mean something, surely?" Yes and no. The intro is a waste of time, or an expression of it. It has nothing to do with the rest of the song, but everything to do with the rest of the song. There's no connection, yet, it's all connected. These guys were brilliant song writers, and kick ass musicians. It may help to know that they all met up at the Regent Street Polytechnic School of Architecture. Structural wisdom at its finest.
@@JuliettJess I did read it. No offense intended. I was just in the mood for some Pink Floyd reactions tonight and was disappointed that the live version was being played. Live Pink Floyd is good. Don't get me wrong. But nothing beats Pink Floyd in the studio. Love your channel. Keep on r'actin .
Solo is not as good as on the original studio recording! People make mistake when they listen to live versions first - even when live versions are superior. In the PF's case, the conceptual and Musique Concrète side of the band makes it the only right order for full appreciation.
I get it, I should’ve listened to the studio version!

Dark Side of the Moon is an album you never forget. "Time" is one of the key reasons why. This is one of those rare times when the studio/album version is even better than this live version. Even if you don't react to it, please listen to when you can, you'll be glad you did.
Listen to Dark Side all the way thru and anything from "Pulse "
Your hair looks lovely! 🤗
When it comes to Pink Floyd always go with the studio version first then the live stuff . . .
And the true meaning of this song is simply "Time" . . .
Agreed. Saw them live in Toronto 1994 and as GREAT as that was the collections will stay with me.
It’s weird because my first Pink Floyd video it wasn’t mentioned and everyone is so mad at me now on my 2nd one 😂
I have made note though for my upcoming ones!
@@JuliettJess … What was the 1st one & why are people mad ?
@@YManCyberDude Wish You Were Here was the first one.
I have literally no clue why people are so mad, I’ve had to delete comments because they’ve become personal towards me which I think is insane!
@@JuliettJess … Dang . . . Well don't give up & I'll give that one a watch too in a bit . . .
If you're ready to watch - arguably - 'the greatest concert performance ever recorded', check out "Comfortably Numb".
I see these 11 or 12 time live
Petty please never ever stop a solo
try listening to some Alan Parsons Project. Great prog rock albums. Alan was the engineer on the Dark side of the moon album
I like your reacton to good music
Floyd without Roger Waters is just a great band. With Waters its an Epic, mind blowing, take you to another world great band. I love David, Richard and Nick and as great as they are they never reach to levels of pure epic without Roger Waters
your hair looks fab natural
I'd recommend the original recording on dark side of the moon with good headphones, lights off. No spliff required. The song will transport you.
Like Pink Floyd - Like your hair.
It might be beautiful but if you listen to the words the end of the first verse is a dagger to the heart
Also try to listen to the studio version ..its even better❤❤
High Hopes and Between Two Points are great songs😊
Have a listen to the album version of this. David's solo sounds so much better on the album. The Pulse version, it gets a bit lost in the mix
Legolas, Elf warrior of the Lord of the Rings, member of the Fellowship, set 60 years later.
Kind of a plot spoiler girls, he's not going to die, either is Grandelf as you cutely put it, or Bilbo. And a few others if you take Moria tombs into account.
Happy belated 4/20😎
Whatever it cost to go to this concert, was worth it.🤑🤩
I had a great uncle who ultimately lived 112 years.
Next up: Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited)
And also: Pink Floyd - On the Turning Away Remastered 2019
Wow that's 😢
When you first listen to PF always do the studio. You missed so much sonically.
Studio version my guy
I LOVE Pulse show, BUT I would say maybe it's better to listen to album version for the first time. Huge PF fan but I'm just saying.
Parla meno❤
checkout studio version like you said you like to do before golng live thats what you said so i guess im sad you didnt do that
Great Reaction 🎬🤘⚡🤘 RORH ✔️ OUT... Under Your
Scars By Godsmack ❤🤘🤘 or Alan Parsons turn of a friendly card❤
why live version ?
Please read my pinned 😊
Keep the natural hair !
This is a short intro by Pink Floyd standards. . . . .
Who belts out that moan at " Scribbled lines"?
Why did you stop? The next song was mind blowing...
Because I listen to 1 song per video 😊
Live ?!?! Shux. Doesn’t compare to the studio version. Off I go hunting for another Pink Floyd reaction video. One that plays an album version.
Read the pinned comment… 😳
@@JuliettJess I did read it. No offense intended. I was just in the mood for some Pink Floyd reactions tonight and was disappointed that the live version was being played. Live Pink Floyd is good. Don't get me wrong. But nothing beats Pink Floyd in the studio.
Love your channel. Keep on r'actin .
Solo is not as good as on the original studio recording!
People make mistake when they listen to live versions first - even when live versions are superior.
In the PF's case, the conceptual and Musique Concrète side of the band makes it the only right order for full appreciation.
I had to leave as soon as I saw it was a live version. Never react to a song you never heard with a live version.
Thanks for not watching the video and then leaving a shitty comment 😊
Hey This video was great, I’m a video editor and I am wondering if I could edit 1 free video for you and if maybe 10 dollars a video?
😅love Oz better 😊
All there song are from brith tall you are dieing
Why live ? Mistake
Because I like live and people always ask me to cover the live performances more 😊
