Mike, You won't remember, but back around 1998 and 99 you came to Nashville, TN with the old Bassmasters University. Two things, In one of your seminars you spoke on this very topic. I've had an "Oh Crap" box in my boat ever since! Even when I was a co-angler, I always carried it. Used it more time's than I can remember.
The other, my youngest son attended the Bassmasters University with me. I think that he was seven and eight. You were so kind to him and the other kids in attendance. I've never forgotten your kindness. He'll be retiring from the Coast Guard in a few years. Always swore that I was going to thank you in person if our paths ever crossed. They haven't yet so I tell you now, thank you so much for your kindness and what you do for our sport. I hope that you see this.
Mike, that is gold bro. Exact scenario I am dealing with here in Central TX. Drought, lakes 18’ low, hydrilla, zebra mussels , ULTRA 25’ visibility, AND excessive fishing pressure. This is the only current option. But you put the idea of the “panic” box all together as an organized PLAN. LOVE IT. YOU DA MAN🙏🐟
God I love watching or even just listening to Ike so much passion "THE BAITS SMALL!!" Love it!
This was a fantastic video, Thanks Mike!! I know you know this because you are a multi-species angler, but basically, you just created a “trout” box. Everything you covered is spot on. My only additions would be:
1) Add “O.D. Green”(olive drab) Maribou Jigs in the same sizes. I can’t tell you how many times this color saved the day. I tie my own.
2) Add some of the Green w/yellow feather & gold blade Rooster Tails.
I think these drab green baits imitate the little creek & lake “Chub minnows” found in so many places.
Love your “In the Shop” vids, and this one was no exception. Thanks again.
(1). 1-3inch grubs and swim baits (power-bait).
(2). Small in- line spinner-baits 32nd-8th oz
(3).Ultralight floating and suspending jerk-baits.
(4).Finesse Brown,black & white finesse hair-jigs. maribou/ synthetic.
(5). Ultralight lipless and lipped crankbaits. Everything fished on a spinning rod with lighter line.
All fantastic go-to baits here up north in Canada! Especially in rivers. If all you want to do is catch a meal, this may just be the only video you need. 😄 No foolin'. Great stuff Mike.
Good luck today at bass masters I'm on the peer in a anchor bay fishing club blue shirt cheering for you
Ike, I herd you speak at a Bassmaster University in Tula, back in tha day, maybe 20yrs+ ago.. You talked about your panic box then, so I came home to AR & made me one for my boat, I've had one ever since..
Thank Ya Ikester, the Panic Box has saved my Ass MANY TIMES...
all these baits are killer in small ponds too! my pond box has pretty much all of these.
Good luck, Just keep cool and fish like it's another day on the water. Stay sa
fe and hydrated
I live in Florida and I get laughed at for finesse fishing when the bite is off especially during cold fronts! But yet I catch them and I get big ones too! Caught. 6 lber on a tiny 4 inch zoom finesse trick worm. Texas rigged weightless
I no longer tournament fish. I have all of those baits in the boat for my grandsons when they go with me. They can catch anything with these baits . I have small tubes in there also. I guess I will put them in a box and call it the grandson box. 😂 Great video IKE. Thanks for sharing.
Mr. twister baby yep my buddy once caught a 40 inch pike on a 1 inch white mr. twister lol
Great Info as Always Ike, Glad to see it's not just me with the inline spinner and 2-inch husky jerk in the panic box. The Tennessee shad color is a life saver !
These are all fantastic lures I fish on a regular basis. Going into this winter when the water temps really starting dropping, I caught my PB large mouth on a strike king crappie square bill doing a stop and rip retrieve.
Love it Ike👊👊👊
Thank you for a great video, I have now built a panic box that will always be in my kayak!
Hey Mike! Thanks man for this great info/idea. I'm a bank fisherman and ill put this panic box together.
Thank you
I even have a tiny 1.5" straight tail lure with a 1g jighead in my panic box haha
This saved me when I was the only one catching while ppl around me were catching none. That day I tried from a few hardbaits, 5" stickbait, 4", 3" and a 2" baits. 1.5" was the only thing that was catching.
When I have less than an hour to fish I always just carry my panic box. I am still having a hard time narrowing the baits down to under 10 baits though..
Small jerkbaits, small in-line spinners and spinnerbaits, 3" & 2" stickbaits, 2" boot tail grubs, 2" & 3" grubs, 4" thin stickbaits, 1.5" straight tail lure, and a number of terminal tackles... my panic box still got way too many stuff in it...
Ike I know this has to do with this video but I met you when the FLW was in Pittsburgh PA on the rivers. You were in your boat rigging up before you launched and you took time out of your day to take a photo and sign some items in the rain for me and my family. I just wanted to say you are a top knotch dude. I only hope if my UA-cam channel ever takes off I am just as great as you. Thanks for what you do.
Every word is so true, Mike !!! Thanks for your secrets !!!
Great stuff! Never thought about having a "panic box".
IKE Awesome information. Thanks for sharing great video.
Hello Mike it's Bill how are you Mike I was a little hesitant on building a panic box but now I got a very clear explanation from you on a panic box I think it's about time to put together a Panic box rod and reel setup and the Panic box itself good idea Mike and of course I am definitely going to put this together it's about time and I think it's time to move to this and I know I should have done it before but I didn't but now we got a good clear understanding Mike thanks and I greatly appreciate that this will come in handy fishing tournaments for sure talk to you soon Mike thank you and God bless you
Thanks man you just confirm what I was thinking
Is the same as the “Oh, Shit!” box you talked about in Columbus seven (!) years ago? 😜
👍❤ Another great informative video.
Great info, never saw you throwing them…
I dont have a panic box, but i always have at least 1 BFS combo on my yak and bfs baits. Last Sunday the bite was tough and my buddy skunked, but i broke out my size 60 whopper plopper and it was the only thing i caught fish with (2 on the same bait). My buddy does not do BFS and tried throwing normal size plopper and had no luck.
Update your box with a 2” Gulp minnow, #4 jig hook and assorted nail weights down to 1/96 OZ to use on a hover rig. This size hover rig and a micro tube have a lot in common, but the Gulp minnow hover rig gets the nod over a tube for me. Another viewer agrees with me on the Beetle Spin. I make my own custom “Beetle Spins” on ultralight wire and don’t go without these. For plastics, a Keitech 2” Spider grub is thrown in with a 2” Keitech paddle tail Easy Minnow and 2” Kalin grub. The Keitech and Kalin tails are super thin and have superior action that beats out bulkier cheap grub tails at slow speeds. Many cheap grubs at that size just don’t have the action needed. I do take an exacto razor knife to thin out any grub tails as needed. In the minnow baits, you need to add the smallest size(s) sinking Rapala countdown(s) to your floater and suspender. The Rapala Countdown CD01 size is the smallest and has caught huge bass in windy choppy conditions as it casts well…remember that cold front wind can kick your butt, too. My last go to bait is a fly with split shot. I tie in a dropper for the split shot using a surgeon or Orvis knot. My flies are zonkers, marabou muddlers and wooly buggers on #2-#4 hooks in natural, olive and white.
The other panic box could always be a live bait box or minnow bucket if you aren't tournament fishing 😎I guess I had to mention the obvious
Just enough larger to be an excellent tackle box
All this stuff ideal for BFS bait cast reels. I've not even tapped into this yet enough but expect results
Where your beetle spin bro😮
bkk weighted trebles?
My Panic box is a little different. KVD 1.5 squarebill crank in Sexy Shad. StrikeKing Pro White double Willow bladed Spinnerbait 1/2 oz. The Original Z-Man Chatterbait 1/2 oz White And CHARTREUSE skirt with a Pearl White Swim bait trailer dyed Garlic Spike it CHARTREUSE on the legs. Texas Rigged 10 inch Culprit Red and Gray plastic worm with a 1/16 oz bullet weight. Hybird Hunter Jr in Oyster color with a CHARTREUSE stripe added down the side. Whopper Plopper in the 90 size "Loon" color. Last but not least a Rattle Trap in Black back and chrome 1/2 oz size. Bonus lure! A double bladed Buzzbait in Bluegill color. Now, That's a line up for The Panic box! When $80,000 dollar Bass Tournament win is on the line. Take the Cash and trophy 🏆😉 and go on home! Shawn.
Hey Ike, better through a couple CP Swings in there. 👍
Man you need some ned rigs in there.
I don’t have a panic box because I’m not a tournament fisherman but a tournament fisherman should always have one
Great info Mike. We had a lot of rain in June and July. Our rivers are up to the trees line and clear water. Temperature in the 80s Fahrenheit. Would Lite lures work in high rivers current.
Thanks, very helpful. What size box was that?
Great video mike I’m going to the garage to put my panic box together, how deep are you fishing these lures in the panic senario
I can’t tell you how many species I have caught on an in line spinner. White bass, hybrids, bream, crappie, catfish, and bass just to name a few
That’s a few plus two
Mike , so what your saying is My regular three rivers tackle box is basically a permanent panic box. Zing powwww! What bait would you throw right now? 1st choice. Thanks buddy and always great info.
I’ve set up a panic box about 5 years ago when I seen you whip it out😂 always works brother!!
I need this info!
Oh hell no I ain't passing on this video to the folks I tourney fish against Oh no!
I'm always fishing that kind of baits. Them seem to always catch something and sometimes big fish.
👍
Break out the BFS gear fellas!!!
Probably has a Grow Design flag and an Issei gill flat in it.😅
I’d like to have a nickel for every smallmouth I’ve caught on an eighth oz black rooster tail lol
Mi caja la voy a llamar extintor vox 😂❤😊
You lost me at hairjig. Hairjigs are Minnesota and smallmouth fishing lures. Not intended for Texas.
Mike, I know you can afford a better camera.
HOLYFUCK! 10min explaining what we all knew from the title... We get what a panic box is. But it doesn't stop there! OH NO! cuz after only a minute in actually showing us whats actually in it. Another minute of explaining a scenario of when you need it. Wtf?
Thief
