I have worked in a salon with 90 percent senior customers(my mother is also a stylist and has owned her salon for 15 years) , and I’ll tell you what...they’re amazing. They come in weekly, and you really build a family. Lately we have had a lot of our ladies loving fashion colors! A little strip, or in the bangs! They love it! They have taught me the most amazing life lessons, and tell me the most amazing stories. I have two clients from
Germany who lived through world war 2, a lot of veteran husbands that were in the war, a lot of families that have came from
Other places and moved to the states and their stories really put my life into perspective! I may do perms and roller sets all day, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. They remember my kids birthdays...came to my baby showers, knit everything for my boys. The relationship I have with them is like nothing else. Having that weekly relationship really builds a bond, we go through life together...sickness, cancer, grands, and great grand babies, deaths, dementia...it can be painful at times, but so rewarding. I may only make enough money to get by, but it’s so rewarding being able to do things for my clients they can’t do for themselves.

What do you mean ‘when she’s ready’ as if that’s the superior and only real way of going? I’m sorry I am platinum blonde and young and I don’t always want blonde hair, I’ve been loads of hair colours. Hair colour isn’t just about getting rid of grey, it’s about changing it and looking different. She ‘might be ready’ to go black, dark brown, green, purple... you wouldn’t use that phrase then though. I’m SICK of people obsessing over people being grey and choosing to dye it and having to listen to shite.

as someone who started getting gray around 30, I especially appreciated hearing the process and understanding demi-permanent on the ends in relation to dealing with the gray.

Yeah, I started going gray at 16.
Then I developed Lupus, and that caused a ton of huge gray growth spurts. I'm only 37 now.. and it's really starting to make me feel bad about myself. It's hard to find good info on how to work with grays. Young people have them too. I think a lot of stylists forget that.
Mine is also a silvery tinsel color.. I'd like to work with it rather than against it. Blend it in. But it takes color so differently.. so it's very confusing.
Also she is so cute! You should keep asking her if she wants to embrace her gray hair because I think it'd probably look great on her if you did it. The red looked amazing too tho. It's funny so many young people actually want white hair and old people want to cover it instead.

Why? What is with this obsession? I have platinum blonde hair it doesn’t mean i want to have it all the time, I like it different shades and different colours which I do myself. Look at Sharon Osbourne, she went from bright red to grey and smart and beautiful to granny Clampett (her own words!) overnight and has just gone back red... and looks 10000x better. STOP with the low key bullying cos that is what it is. People like you I see and hear everywhere. Shaming people into doing something they don’t want to do.

Don't you just love the red series. It was always my go-to haircolors of choice. My specialty was cutting and coloring short hair. Of course, I got alot of request for inverted bobs. Oh Guy, I so enjoyed watching and learning from you. And...I AM 68 yrs old, and you were so sweet and kind and gentle, believe me, very rare in this day., it made me hopeful...I was 16 when I went to cosmetology school, in my jr. year of high school, 3 nights a week and all day sat., then in summer, full time. I am retired now, not by choice, after 23+ surgeries and 5 near death...I miss the salon business so much, I can only dream about it now., but just know you are an inspiration on humanity and ‘ inspiration to this wonderful industry’. I sure would love to sit down and have a cup of coffee and talk shops, I could tell you stories what it was like in the days, before you were born...lol. Take care, you are truly an Artist!

You know, I feel sorry for hairdressers in a way. You tell us to keep coming to you to do our hair, but then you get overbooked and can't ever get us in when we need it! LOL. Also, during quarantine, I am so glad I do my OWN hair and don't have to rely on coming into a salon after two or three months. Much respect to you all!

I wish there were good hairdressers in my city, I paid almost 500 dollars and I walked out with orange hair and two tones of brown and fried when all I wanted was blonde... it’s funny that they advertise their salon as the best and encourage hair education and what not ... I was opened to be informed since I myself would not have the courage to do it myself but the “stylist” assured me that I could for sure go blonde.. anyway I like that you’re honest with your clients and prioritize the integrity of the hair first 🙏
Did you bring this concern to that salon management or to that artist who did your hair? Speak up and give them the opportunity to maje it better! Don’t just throw it on SM pls be conscious about it. As we are humans and nothing is perfect in real life but it can be amended. “ help me , I help you “ it’s a 2 way street- cheers 🥂
