    UPDATE 2: DECKLISTS IN DESCRIPTION!
    UPDATE: I missread Yamivaya (the card from mono green) I will be taking it out of the list and updating the description with the deck listswhen I get back home!
    Really sorry about this, I slipped bad here. I'll basically replace it with a big end game play to make use of the ramp!

    • @AdamSfcz

      Magic is a complicated game Mog😀. Also be aware that The Weatherseed Treaty ramps you and gives you the token, but the buff is only going to be +1/+1 (one land type - forest) and trample, so it might not be worth it.

    • @MegaMogwai
      @MegaMogwai  3 місяці тому +4

      I still think giving one of your 2 drops trample is good enough for such a multifaceted card!
      Thanks for clarifying though, my bad 😢

    If you're coming to MTG from Legends of Runeterra here's an easy way to think about the different colors using LOR regions:
    White= Demacia
    Blue= Ionia
    Black= Shadow Isles
    Red=Noxus, but also a bit of PnZ
    Green= Freljord
    Obviously not direct one to one comparisons, but they're pretty similar.

      Love it! I will say, something that can help A LOT, is translating them to the 10 two-color combinations. You’ve done an awesome job with mono color, but for those ready to branch out:
      White-Blue: Ionia; a lot of control and flying creatures, which work the same as Elusive
      White-Black: Shurima; benefits for sacrificing creatures and artifacts, plays a very good midrange
      White-Red: Demacia; Taxing and Restricting effects and very efficient creatures
      White-Green: Bandle City; Goes very wide, grows creatures very well, creature-based removal
      Blue-Black: Bilgewater; Tricksy and punishing creatures, Steals from your opponent
      Blue-Red: PnZ; very Spell heavy
      Blue-Green: Targon; RAMP and VALUE
      Black-Red: Noxus; very aggressive creatures, very efficient direct damage
      Black-Green: Shadow Isles; cares a LOT about the graveyard and creatures dying, sacrificing for value, and efficient removal
      Red-Green: Freljord; a lot of board based removal and damage based board wipes, strong ramp, very creature heavy.
      Hope this helps a bit Lee for those looking to delve into 2-color decks!

      @@TheTunaSaladin Thanks, as a veteran of both games it always struck me how many similarities there were between the LOR region identities and the MTG color identities, particularly with the original 6 starting regions. You can really tell that early LOR design was influenced quite a bit by MTG.

    • @KrSaPoww
      @KrSaPoww 3 місяці тому

      @@MattyIce213 I don't really think that only early LOR designs were influenced by MTG, every single expansion LOR feels more like a watered down MTG. Like, the gloom and spirit mechanics are just keywords to -1/-1 and +1/+1 counters and Story cards are just saga. Not necessarily a bad thing, though, MTG is thriving for decades, after all.

    • @acoasma829
      @acoasma829 3 місяці тому +1

      the truth is, that only a very small percentage of players,even experienced ones, are able to buil original decks, that are actually viable.
      that said, it is also a very fun part of the game and if you dont want to grind to mythic every month, there is really nothing from stopping you to try it.
      important things to consider:
      1. What synergies do you want to focus on?
      2. what archetype do you want to play? (aggro, midrange, control...)
      3. What color/s do provide the most for your choice?
      once you decided on that, you needto refine it.
      1. build for a viable mana curve
      2. you probably eant to have some card draw,some form of removal and some creatures ... what you focus on and what is good, is the part where you need a ton of experience
      3. build a manabase according to your mana curve
      very simplified, but thats the gist

I saw you mentioning that the viewership had been low for your recent vids, and thought maybe this could be a way for fans to support you. I'm so glad you are still making content, and I had a lot of questions about MTG:A, because Runeterra was really the only card game with a mana system that I played consistently. Being mainly in grained in Yu-Gi-Oh and the meta right now just being more stale than stale bread atm. I wanted to take a look and MTG:A. This video if not all your videos I've have watched really helped a lot in getting the bearings of Magic and learning how to play. *Its sort of like morbid whiplash going to something that is SOOO much slower*. 30:20 Yavimaya Sojourner will never cost less than 7 bc its -1 for every unique basic land TYPE. This is telegraphed by the domain keyword, which reduces something or works off something depending on the land types. so this is for 5-color decks that support having different land types, aka mountain plains forest swamp island. so the max reduction would be if you have a basic of each color at -5.

I looked at other options and you could try something like Jewel Thief (unfortunately is rotating soon), Contagious Vorrac (decent creature) or Beastbond Outcaster (more card draw). Later on if you have rare wildcards to spend and like these styles of decks you can't go wrong with Outcaster Trailblazer or perhaps Archdruid's Charm.

  • @FluffySpikeM
    @FluffySpikeM 3 місяці тому +1

    I would say the best way for the first month is playing starter deck duels and throwing in a few Jump-In events. These are fun in their own right and pretty good for building your collection, as they give you at least two rare cards for the price of one (1000 gold). Consult Jump-in event deck lists before choosing your two themes each time - you will be able to choose somewhat which rares (or mythics) you will be getting.
    Don't overdo the Jump-ins - they're cheap, but they chip at your gold stash for the next set release on July 30 ("Bloomburrow"). You will want to really start collecting cards focusing on one set, but only if you play it from day one of its release. Trying to play catch-up with previous sets is worse (in terms of building your collection).
    Ideally you should build one Standard-viable deck and enter at least one Ranked match each month - that's extra packs in prizes at the end of the month, even if you lose. It's worth it.
    Oh, and use all the free one-time codes available for extra packs and minor other goodies (look that up, links won't post here, unfortunately). I would wait on the EXP codes until the next set (July 30), but the packs from older sets should be _very_ useful. They give you a ton of random rares, around 15 rare wildcards and 7-8 mythic ones. Will help you with crafting your first Standard-viable deck (any one that you choose).

    For example, how exactly would you modify the monowhite deck? Both cards you suggested are 5 mana, which is notably more than the rest of the deck. I want to say one thing for the common/uncommon rarity. As a fully f2p player, I have learned that it's easier to get uncommon cards than common cards, as all individual card rewards are uncommon+ and you get guaranteed uncommon wildcards every few boosters you open (mostly from battlepass). I don't remember there being guaranteed common wildcards. Your commons come mostly from the boosters itself which you mostly get from the most recent set.

    • @TheTunaSaladin
      @TheTunaSaladin 3 місяці тому

      Alongside Uncommon wildcards for opening packs you also get common wildcards; and I think opening packs of those sets will also fairly quickly get you a chunk of those commons. But yes I typically have the about the same amount of both rarities, sometimes more uncommons

      I'd remove a couple of 2 drops (the lifelinker) and then the battlefield butchers and slam in Preacher and Sheoldred!
      Gix is amazing but if we alter the deck too much the synergies will go down a bit.
      Focus on crafting 4x Go for the Throat (uncommon) so that you can pivot into more of a "mono black good stuff" deck! At the expense of the self mill synergy.

      It has something called "color challenge" that will help you understand how the game works.
      The game seems complicated at first because there's a lot of information, but you'll quickly understand how it works.

    This is good. I would only add that you don’t have to be shy about uncommons, because it’s actually easier to get uncommon wild cards than common

    Great video I was feeling overwhelmed before this. Btw any advice on how should I proceed if I want to get into slower variants of red, is there something like ezreal draven or something?

    White - the color represents Justice or Equality, hence why white is known to have the best board wipes (so that both players would be back to equal grounds of not having any creatures) and creature target removal.
    Blue - the Color represent Knowledge, hence the color is known for drawing cards, scrying, counter spells, simply having more cards in your hand.
    Black - the color represents Greed, that's why you see that black decks will do anything to gain advantage even if it costs them their own Life, effects such as drawing 2 cards and losing 2 life. Second to white for having strong removal spells.
    Red - the color represents Burning Passion, or this is the color that is commonly used for "Aggro" decks. They have the best Burn spells that deals damage to the opponents directly, partnered with creatures that can immediately attack (Haste) and gains benefits from casting those said burn spells.
    Green - and lastly, this color represents nature. Green is color of choice for decks that likes to build up mana faster than the opponent (just like nature with its forests and plants that grows), so that they can cast their big mean and green 10/10 big boys.
    And the color pairings, well, I'll leave that to your imagination, my favorite is "Izzet" or the color combination of Blue and Red. When you combine those 2 colors, it represents the burning passion to Acquire knowledge, hence why you see most Izzet decks to cast many cheap spells the either buffs their creatures, deals direct damage, and my favorite, drawing cards.

    Oh, are you actually coming back to MTGA? Your decks were some of the most fun to play, have been following you for a while before you switched Runeterra (which I tried, but it didn't stick with me).
    Looking forward to seeing more cool decks from you! Recently only Altheriax have been posting meta breaking decks.

I like how much thought you put into crafting your decks however I do not want you to get burnout . I enjoy your content since LOR and have enjoyed the other card game content you've created and I want to express my thanks. 😊👍

    Hey Mogwai, I really enjoy watching your videos since quite some time. Doesn't really matter what type of card game it is. You're so passionated in doing it thats all what matters - and that's what's entertaining :) Another thing.. In LoR it was so easy to complete a deck by just buying the missing cards. In MTGA I guess it all works with wildcards which you get in booster packs right? how many packs do I have to get until I have enough wildcards to complete for example one of your mono color decks that you've posted. A bit frustrating

    Cool video. I think you're going to need more videos though. MtG is complicated, and MtGA both adds and takes away from that complexity.

    One comment I have: Yavimaya Sojourner costs one less for every land type, not land
    A question: I used to play mtga a lot but it's been years, I mean like 3-4 years ago
    Should I go back to my old account or make a new one?
    I had a pretty big collection but right now basically everything rotated
    Is there any benefit to starting from scratch?

    Economy wise, when you don't have much of a collection, instead of buying packs (even the ones that give you gold packs) you should buy into the jump start event. You get more cards per gold. It's the most efficient way to get cards early on. There are lists and google docs online that help you keep track of what you have and min max this, as you can only get specific cards, it's worth it. Make sure to not pick packs from it you already have 4x the rare/mythic of it, as it doesn't offer any duplicate protection for them. At first it's fine and you can just choose a different pack, but the more you complete jump start and the chances of you getting duplicate packs increases, it gets less and less worthwhile to do.When you're at that point you should switch buying packs of the newest set.
    Economy/beginner guides are your friend.

    just curious if you've been considering competitive magic at all yet? i know it's early yet and if so likely a ways off, but also know it's something you used to enjoy and tried a couple times in lor but couldn't get into. so yeah just wondering if you've thought about it at all or if that time has passed and no interest in it anymore.

    Hi Mogwai, I noticed something. Domain does not work the way you described it. It only counts thé number of DIFFERENT types of basic lands, not the total amount of them. In mono color, domain will be equal to only 1...
    You might need to adjust the mono green decklist. Especially for the 8-drop
