Something happening with the asteroid causing it to head toward Earth is so obvious I almost expect a twist. This was a good Irina episode that almost makes you forget how compromised Margo's position is. It feels like things are going to get crazy in the last four episodes. Let me know what you think.

This episode was unironically hilarious. In Miles story, an American takes over a Russian black market operation using North Korean muscle. In Ed's story, a hero of American capitalism becomes a figure head for a worker's revolution, not because he had a change in values but simply because he wasnt getting his way. I dont know how yall could finish the episode without laughing maniacally

I’ve worked in a unionized job and I’ve heard the stories of managers who’ve been screwed over who give the union info for revenge on the higher ups. During one negotiation our union was given inside info anonymously, but everyone knew who it came from. So Ed’s turn didn’t seem far fetched to me. Miles only got the muscle because he probably promised that he could get that guy’s wife to mars. We’ll see if he can come through because if he doesn’t the Koreans will take it out on him.

After re-watching some season 1 episodes, the current Aleida-Margo relationship is sort of similar to von Braun-Margo relationship, the mentee being angry at/disappointed with the mentor.

this is true and a great moment when Margo Brings up Regret to ALeida , at this very moment it reminded me of Margo's relationship with her Mentor and her Refusal to understand he did not have a choice he was just trying to survive his situation, Now Margo is in a SImilar positon for tyrin to do the right thing .she will be disliked by everyone like her mentor and she Regrets how she could/did not meet her mentor with any understanding

Kostya - Margo was trapped by her initial choice to share knowledge with the Soviets. Once she’d crossed that line, there was no going back. The writers did masterful job, beginning in season 2 how Margo’s treachery began as mere professional courtesy - the first info that she shared related to a critical safety issue with the Soviet shuttle.

Does the thought of redirecting an asteroid towards Earth with a very short window to do so not cause red flags to any of the M-7? The most recent big asteroid to hit the planet was the 1908 Tunguska asteroid and it was only 75m big and hit with the force of several nuclear explosions in Siberia. A 1km asteroid would absolutely decimate Earth if (or rather when considering FAM's track record) something messes up.

The next episode is gonna tell me where this season is gonna end up I hope. Four Episodes left and they have to wrap up the Old Guard stories, setup the next generation, do something with the asteroid, unionize and shakeup things enough on Earth that they can play into season 5.
A lot to do but they're gonna get it done.

Aleida’s reaction to Margot really shot an arrow into my heart. Not only did she have PTSD, but was deeply mourning her mentor, her champion, her friend. But knowing her background as an immigrant into the USA, she can’t accept that Margot chose to defect to Russia for a person whose destiny was f**ked anyway it went down. Margot was played, she fell for the Russian scheme, & chose them over the US & her friends. Great scene!!!

I didn't buy Aleida's argument. Margo had her reasons for giving away secrets to the Soviets, but at a certain point jail time was inevitable if truth had come to light. Margo wanted to continue her work. That was her vision. In the same way it takes us back full circle to her relationship with Wernher von Braun in season 1. She was so critical of Wernher. Now she can understand how Wernher was forced to sacrifice everything for his vision of going into space even though it meant living with slave labor and worker abuse under the Nazi regime.

  • @paulkerrigan4051

In the TV series “For All Mankind,” I don’t observe an extinction event. However, it’s possible that a fragment could break loose and cause devastation to a country on Earth-likely a minor one. This sets the stage for the next season, where an international organization or pact (expanding the M-7 alliance) forms to prevent such an incident from recurring. Meanwhile, third countries may develop a justifiable grudge against the space superpowers due to their carelessness.

Actually the Iraq war cost was closer to between $5-6 Trillion thanks to the fact that Bush didn't pay for it (he never increased taxes to pay for the war costs which every president that's taken the country to war in history prior to him has had to do - otherise it effs up your govt. budget balancing ), and to make it even worse, he never put it on the books for the entire period of his presidency after the war (6 years).
Which means by the time Obama got into office and they discovered that gigantic hole in the budget, and had to put the war costs in the books (under his administration's costing, which was unfair), the cost by time accounting for inflation and interest payments had ballooned to almost triple the original and named cost.
It's like if you buy a car but defer or stop paying the car payments for a long time, by the time you get back to paying for it, your total costs will have increased over what you would have paid had you just paid for it outright at the offset, thanks to how they charge interest for the unpaid periods.
That's obviously why Lease-to-Buy sales models are such a lucrative business model for everyone from car dealerships, to home sellers (incluing bank loaners and mortgage institutions) and a financial killer for buyers who delay and defer their payments or are otherwise generally late with those payments.
You never defer what you can pay today, to pay for it tomorrow because you'll always be paying more for it.
That's the Iraq war in a nutshell

Writers aren't missing at all. Watching seasons 1-3 I couldn't help but question some decisions in the writing department, especially in the 2nd and 3rd seasons. However, I don't think I really have any complaints at all about this season. The only scene that I kinda thought was a miss was the miles EVA scene where he got stranded with no consequences. Besides that, this is a rock solid season so far and I'd likely even be satisfied if this was the final season, however we still likely have 1-2 seasons to go.

Great video, as usual, Pete. I guess I am like a lot of your viewers who really dislike the Miles story line. It was ok when it started but it’s gone over board. But I guess the show always has one crazy somewhat unpopular arc. On the other hand the Margo/Alida sorry line was the complete opposite. You knew this meeting was coming once Alida was going to Moscow. The way they pulled this off is Emmy worthy. Truly fantastic. And Coral Peña just knocked it out of the park. Her emotions ran the gamut of pure joy to complete disappointment and almost disgust. It was truly emotional to watch. It’s hard to feel for Margo but I kinda did. Because we know what she did, in the beginning anyways was for a good reason. Can’t wait for the rest of the season.

What I wanted from the series was to have dropped the cold war plot entirely. US and USSR under one umbrella.
Have a workers revolt on Mars, and Mars becomes a new independent player. The N. Koreas are the muscle and black market source for Mars (they can work around any embargos or sanctions). And with the USSR stepping down, N Korea moves shop from earth to Mars. Mars workers are free but now have this growing N. Korea appendage ... which now I think about it could be a new cold war but on Mars.
And if I squint really hard, it's kind of looking like it's maybe going in that direction??

It's a real can of worms from the writing department and I cannot figure out how the worm will turn.
The Margo - Aleida reunion was beautiful and tragic. Wrenn Schmidt keeps me tuning in ASAP as I'm fascinated by, repelled and sympathetic with her arc. She's built the whole ROSCosmos character set up around herself. Wonderful performances by all but I have my favorite.

Yeah the Miles storyline is a bit weak. They spend too much time on him. There is nothing there. It would be okay if they had 22 episodes per season, like shows in the old days, but there are only 10 episodes and spending time on the Miles storyline is a waste of time.

The best episode of the series so far! Ed's attitude rocked! Miles' come back was amazing to see! - surprisingly the best new character of the show! Margo coming back was both amazing and moving! (We often forget how selfless she is... And now she's feeling everything that Von Braun felt in Season 1). Dani's gonna need Ed's help to solve everything up there... Still curious about what Dev's response's gonna be... And Kelly has both Ed and Dani's ears, she also's gonna be key on the next episodes 😉👌🏻

a perfect phrase to describe ED BALDWIN AND MARGO MEDISON:
“You Either Die A Hero, Or You Live Long Enough To See Yourself Become The Villain”
I just hope they will redeem themselves, and he can sacrifice himself to save Mars or Earth from the asteroid, which will certainly become a threat to Mars or Earth and I bet Ed will sacrifice himself to save everyone. Margo on the other hand, I bet that in the future you will understand that what you are doing is wrong and you are serving a negative regime and you will decide to sacrifice yourself by bringing out some scandal that will contribute to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

As always, I am confused. The Soviet Union had nothing to do with the terrorist bombing of the JSC, right? So, if Margo had been in her office at the time of the attack, banging away on the piano or whatnot, she’d be dead, right? I get the traitor part. I assume I’d be an American taxpayer in this alternate timeline and I would be really pissed knowing American tech was passed along to the Russkies just ‘cause Sergei was gonna take a long walk off a short pier. My favorite part of this episode? Helios had to sit at a teeny-tiny table, away from the big dogs at the M7 conference. Like when you were a child at Thanksgiving and all the adults sat at the big table and you and your cousins from Lake Forest sat at the kids’ table…

The problem I have with the show at the current stage, is that it is no longer a space related show. It was in season 1. In season 2 it was completely idiotic on every single level. Season 3 was meh, but it was at least space and exploration related. In season 4, they didn't get the scale right, the feel, anything. It is your classic soap opera show that just happens to be taking place in a set that you've been told is Mars.
I don't get the feeling that I am watching a bunch of people on a different planet, going through struggles of living on the final frontier. And that is bad for a show like this. It didn't sell the feeling, the setting. It might as well all be happening somewhere on Earth in some mining town - at least that is how characters act. It is just melodrama that has some space scenery in the background, this is not a space related show for quite some time.
Compared to the Expanse, that many people are commenting this being the spiritual prequel of, remember how environment, the fact that things are in space, over vast distances, played a role in storytelling? You still got your various stories, both personal and grand scale, happening - but they were happening IN SPACE. Space was practically another cast member, it wasn't a slap-on scenery in the background.
And THAT is what made that show great.
FAM simply can't grapple with that. They don't know how to do it. It is not a money thing, Apple has money to buy a sovereign country if they want to, it is a competency thing.

The drug culture that runs through this show does not sit well with the NASA/military culture that would exist- agenda perhaps?

Also this whole unionizing thing is brought totally only from American perspective. People coming from socialist and European countries would´ve definitely already set up an union. Especially as Helios is a union busting company and it is already known that they do not care about their workers that much.

Do you think that they will create space elevators after bringing the asteroid is sent to earth, and start mining it?

    • @JamesPerkins
      @JamesPerkins 9 місяців тому

Space elevators are hard to build due to exceeding limits of bulk material tensile strength, their extreme resource requirements, the horrific results if they fail, and they require a unified economic/political/risk acceptance effort planetwide. As such, they are about the same idea as the iridium asteroid redirection/mining, but a thousandfold more difficult on all those dimensions. So, I would be surprised to see them in this show's story arc.

That meeting where the idea of dragging the asteroid to Earth was discussed, was also very badly written.
