The young Zimerman made playing the piano look as natural as breathing. His technique is flawless and his understanding and empathy with Chopin complete.
@@mistermozartx9414 I don't think people clapped because they couldn't hold it anymore. I think it was because many of them didn't know the piece and thought that it was the ending. And it is totally acceptable, many of them might not have heard the piece, because you had to go to concerts to listen to music at that time. We are so lucky to be able to listen to the music we want.
This is the best performance of this piece ever. It is so natural. It is just astonishing that Zimerman was only 18 at the time. His fluent ease and relaxation at the piano, his ability to sense just how long to let notes resonate, and his elastic and seemingly limitless virtuosity, are enthralling. If it was possible to have a competition between all the winners of the Chopin competition as they were at the time of their victories, Zimerman would win - easily (and that includes Pollini, Argerich, Ohlsson etc)
cj7ification Not for Krystian Zimerman. I fully agree with James Adams! :D ligueardent Yundi Li just tries to copy Krystian Zimerman but never fully managed to do so! :P
It’s madness how good he was at such a young age. Like proper serious concert pianist good. Incredible that a teenager had the maturity to understand and express music at this level.
Words are not enough to describe the fascination I feel watching a genius musician playing another genius musician. Amazing. Most of us are just babies compared to them. Thank you for sharing.
yes you know not how to react- cry, shiver, fall in love, kill yourself, despair or simply die in this second. It's like to see a part of god and you know you never will be a part of it. ( His later record is even better (!!!), but you can only hear and cannot see the natuality)
Let's not forget that Mozart was Chopin's favorite. I've always felt that Zimmerman at this competition is how Chopin should be played and how Chopin would want it to sound.
@@Smortnt And during that Chopin-competition, he was quiet a young guy. Listening to him now is like before always a message from somewhere out of this world.
I like this rendition, you know why? Because Zimmerman is one of those rare pianists (along with Sviatoslav Richter) who could seemingly connect whole heartedly with the music they were playing. Meaning, their ego or other intrusive thoughts didn’t get in the way of expressing the music. It’s like playing without thinking about the audience is there. Just you and the music.
As a pianist myself, the only two pianists I listen to when I want inspiration for playing Chopin are Horowitz and Zimerman. Rubinstein, the obvious choice, feels extremely generic to me. The others just rush through everything as if they have a train to catch. Their respective performances of the 4th ballade provide complete commitment to the two ways of approaching the piece, one so creatively thoughtful as to create another world you feel like you're visiting, the other organic and spontaneous and unbelievably cruel. Only Horowitz can play the coda the way it was meant to be played. Zimerman comes close but owns the rest of the piece. If you've heard Zimerman live he makes you see and hear things in pieces you never knew were there to point where you nod your head as if to say "now I understand". He impresses because he continued to evolve. Here he is all talent and exciting showman and already displaying his greatness, but not yet the artist he would become. If you've ever seen Horowitz live, well, nothing can describe. Sorry for posting about VH here. I just can never post one without the other when discussing Chopin. The two sides of a musical personality. I love this video and I can never get enough KZ.

Chopin to najpiękniejsza spuścizna dla ludzkości.
Young Zimerman = Young *Chopin* ❤️🎶🇵🇱
Yess, he looks like him so much
Old Zimerman = Chopin
He’s Chopin’s reincarnation

I've heard people say 'I don't like Zimmerman because his playing is a bit too perfect' ?!?!??!?!?!?!? I'm at loss for words..
Yes there are not words for some one doesn't like a selection that is too perfect!
perfect? how? if he hates him for being perfect, then there are a lot of wrong notes for him to love here,
Christoffer Enfors They are jealous that’s why.
Sometimes he plays with a little too much rubato, but I love it
ohhh yeah
Zimerman is a legend. The true Polish spirit is alive in his playing.
Hats off gentlemen, a genius.
Just like schumaunn said to Chopin (I think that’s what you are referring to)
@@bigchungus9740 yes Schumann said that in response to Chopin op 2 varations
He is already perfect.......
Chopin, is that your reincarnation playing the piano
@@tangerin_han yes it is
the real chopin wouldn't say that, he would say, not bad but I found, many mistakes in the way you're playing my music!
@@felipevv05 how would you know? Are you Chopin?
And so handsome
Love how the audience clapped before the piece ended ;)
Usually Its rude to do this But in this Context it seems like the audience cant hold back anymore because it was soo mayestic

Dziękujmy Bogu za Chopina i Zimermana.
OMG'oodness!!! Chopin is surely doing somersaults in the grave. That was incredible.
18 and already a monster of piano

Actually a genius
Brilliant.
My absolute favourite since I first heard it 40 yrs ago! Best interpretation ever!
Did you see it live?!
Bravissimo Maestro Zimerman - FASCINANTE !!!!

The most beautiful sound made by piano
What a great Chopin- lover and musician! Thank you so much!
I don't know what is nicer- his playing or his dignity and grace- he seems like a noble son of a king- a prince
They couldn't handle the perfection
Real legend
Chopin himself wins the competition
No wonder why he won first price zimmerman has always be one of my favorites, gotta com from polland to play chopin that way
Arcydzieło, rewelacja ! Chopinie, geniuszu ❤️

Little did he know, he would live to become one of the best pianists living today.
I think he did. LOL.
Literally wins the chopin competition and yet you write little did he know 💀

Don't think I have ever seen him hit a bad note or make a mistake-my favourite pianist.
crazy thing is he doesn’t even practice the songs the only time he actually plays it is during the performance
Bravo!

Ha avuto una crescita incredibile.....da qui ad oggi rasenta la perfezione!❤
Piękno muzyki Fryderyka Szopena to fenomen graniczący z cudem. Brawo Zimerman.

Damn and he was only 18 years old wtf am I doing with my life
No wonder he won the competition. Many will never play as well as this in a whole lifetime.
how does he do that? This is no doubt the best I've ever heard

He actually looks a lot like Chopin xDD
Yes, he does.
He does!
It's funny how a lot of young polish pianists look like Chopin. Rafał Blechacz and Jan Lisiecki also look quite similar to Chopin.
Maybe it's intentional, there is this thing that you want to look like someone you admire. And Chopin is like a grand hero in Poland.
for me he is one of the best performer with Evegny Kissin.💙
👏👏
18 year old and he's already Chopin
🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
Incarnation of Chopin
Nobody plays Chopin the way he does.
That is the illest performance of that piece ever. Holy shit!
You must be very good for people to clap before you even finish the piece

Zimmerman is one of the greatest pianists in the world, together with Sokolov and Daniil Trifonov.
A god..........
I like Yundi’s version more tho this is still good
Combine this with a skilful orchestra and you get heaven.
Ahora ya se por que ganó.
Where's the entire thing???

Is it just me, or does he seem to prefer a higher bench position? Kinda looks like his arms are angled downward more than I’m used to seeing.
He really emphasise using arm to create force during forte playing, so that might explain it
