There's a reason he won the competition. This is stunningly perfect. I cannot stop listening to it. I don't think anyone, including Yundi can reproduce this performance again. It's just that good
I have the CD and the DVD of Yundi’s Chopin concert (live recording) in Beijing in 2010. I am even more impressed by his performance of this work from that performance. The Andante Spaniato had even more crystallinity. There was more power yet subtlety in the Polonaise without sacrificing fluidity. In my opinion, it was a more matured reading. Both versions are hard to top.
I’m no master, but I’ve played and listened for several years. This recording is the closest to perfection I’ve heard any performer perform any piece ever. I want what 18 year old Yundi was having!!!
Massive fan of both Kissin and Trifonov but without doubt this is an exceptional interpretation of this piece, he won the comp for a reason. Just like Cho's heroic imo is the best I've ever heard at least on UA-cam, absolutely insane level of depth.
@Sherrill Milnes Fan I just listened to Trifonov (ua-cam.com/video/oS_XjkILFMY/v-deo.html ), and I completely disagree. He already fudged the start to the Grande Polonaise Brillante at 4:24 with the octave. 4:32 - 4:38 he's just mashing the keys and needs to learn to ease off the damn pedal. His dynamics are all over the place, at times it just sounds like someone's switching the volume from max to low max to low max to low. His playing sounds very clicky-clacky like he's some robot, the emotion is "there", but it's a robotic emotion if that makes sense, Yundi's is way more natural and 100 times better sounding.
Surreal! He is such a rare gifted pianist! Well, in fact I don’t know how to express! Just knowing that I was totally led into another world….heaven , I guess..
I still vividly remember when I downloaded this video back in 2006 from google videos (google had its own player then). I was addicted to and mesmerized by the whole performance of the solos and the concerto that once I saw Yndi Li in my dreams and praised him for his performance of the andante spianato
It's one of Chopin's favorite songs. The beautiful melody of Andante Spianato is really sweet. And the polonaise part is really cool and beautiful. It's magnificent, it's splendid, it's antique.
I imagine everyone in the audience were in an ecstasy state that they forgot to cough. This performance belongs to history: no studio tricks, no mistakes (at least none of importance), absolute beauty and no coughing. I resort to Yundi to compare recent winners of this or other important piano competitions.
I agree with your agreement with his agreement. Btw, does anybody his entire repertoire for this competition from the first stage up to the final stage.
This is the greatest version of this piece to ever be recorded...the section beginning around 9:06 has stayed with me since I first heard it . At 9:36, it is the finest and most exquisite sound, his tone is sublime. Gentle, airy, and poignant. The entire performance is a masterpiece, but it is those few seconds that truly stand out in my mind and urge me to search for this video and listen to it again. Cheers!
Yes, that's my favorite section too! So many pianists play that phrase so choppily and Yundi plays it so lyrically and smoothly. Go Yundi! I can't wait for you to take the stage again!
Brilliantly executed notes, played expressively and with emotion. I will never know how Yundi manages to produce this inexplicable sound, each and every note in balance, and in tone. Such intensity, and focus seems to blend into a perfect mix of heavenly notes. Yundi’s performance seems to surpass all boundaries, unimaginably creative, beautiful, and expressive. Bravo!
I just love it: Chopin+Yundi Li: so sensitive. So passionate. That's how i can imagine Chopin playing his own creation. Thanks to the Uploader.I'm really grateful :-)

Yundi's sincerely lively body language including facial expressions did a great job of making us realize and enjoy his interpretation. For me that's rare to see in other virtuosic performance of this piece. Bravo. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, I laughed with joy many times during this performance at the absolute brilliance of the playing! .. And the piece, of course. Genius composition, genius talent.

I have been going around from videos to videos searching for, in my opinion, the best version. I had some reservations about Yundi Li, being so young and not of Slavic origin, so I listened anyway, and prepared to pencil down a list of what's wrong with his playing. Well, my pen wrote nothing as I listened to a fantastic performance. Usually, I can tell everything about a pianist from just a few measures played. Argerich had tantrum problems, Zimmerman was a bore, Weissenberg had accent problems, Rubinstein was unclear, Liu had no rhymic drive, but this young guy has an uncanny ability. He has a perfect sense of dynamics, form, and style, and it was played like a dance as its namesake, polonaise. This remarkable musical sense is not easily taught. This is an impeccable performance.
Wow you've came back after 7 years. I saw your criticising comment in zimermans vid about his unnecessary accents and your comment in yundi s ballade no.4
