Here are some tips from somebody who made this keeb - Skyloong changed how the keyboard is built, they made the cases bottom smaller as to eliminate empty sounds, therefore a smaller dampening foam than 5mm is preferred. 1) When taking apart the board, the Gateron Optical logo goes down, this comes in later 2) Of course, when using a switch opener, push, but don't push after it opens, it will break the clips. (didn't happen to me, but I could see how it would to others.) 3) When Taking apart and greasing stabs, the new stabilizers don't go up and down on the new model, they lay flat until the key cap is inserted onto them. 4) When lubing the switches, the bag technique is good, but I would suggest not putting your Krytox on a sticky note, accidents can happen a lot and it can also be a huge waste. If you get Krytox from kebo, they provide a small brush that is perfect for dipping. 5) When adding foam, put thinner than you think. Since Skyloong changed the depth of the keyboard, if you put too much, the screws holding the PCB won't screw in and the charge port will be pushed too far down to move. 6) When putting the switches back together, the small window bump on the upper clear housing of the switch goes over the open window end on the bottom housing. 7) When lubing and filming, take your time. As a perfectionist, when the switches sounded different I took the ones that didn't sound the same out, re-lubed and re-filmed them, not super fun. But definitely worth it. 8) I've recently found out that the stabilizers make the keycaps that have them rattle uncontrollably, I tried regreasing the stabs, putting bandaid underneath, closing stab gaps, and making the fit tighter but it still has a very bad rattle. If anyone has any other ideas id love to hear And of course, have a nice tidy workspace and put some music on : ) always better to have fun doing it than dread it!

Doing the same thing to mine. I'm waiting on the lube, switch films and new springs, but I already tuned the stabilisers and added craft foam to the bottom of the case. Saying that, I couldn't get a good sound out of the stock stabilisers, so I used genuine Cherry inserts and wires to minimise the rattle. I also did the band-aid mod. The large keys now sound like dense wood - I cannot wait to mod it further!
@@3ildcat Thanks! Do you know how I could get this in a Tofu case? I'm aware I'd have to get a new plate, but that's all I know. If you could help me, I'd really appreciate it!
@@3ildcat Ah, well thanks anyway. One more thing though -- do you know how I can get the horizontol rainbow wave profile back? I must have deleted it, as I cannot find it in the software.
@@3ildcat Hi :3ildcat - I can confirm that the version of the SK61 that I have is in fact compatible with the TOFU case! The PCB and plate fit just fine. The best part is that the PCB can still be screwed to the plate, which is kind of needed for the optical switches. I'm not sure I'm going to keep using these switches though. I lubed and filmed them, but there's a strange event at the bottom of the travel for some, if not most of the keys.. it almost feels like a tactile bump. I'm waiting on some Gateron KS-9 Yellows and a HS60 PCB to use in this Tofu case.
I keep watching these vids and can't get enough. I'm completely new to mechanical keyboards and its gonna be hell spending a ton of money on different switches before I find what I like. I was about to buy Wooting One before I realized its was optical switches only and not regular MX compatible. You make good visual aids to help mod keebs, I def need something quiet, or I'm gonna get divorced.
for those wondering, the microphone is there under the spacebar as part of a lighting mode where it detects your voice and the level of the light rises depending on how loud or quiet you are.
I bought this exact keyboard (Though I think they're gateron browns... hope that's not too different) and didn't realise how terribly loud it is. Thanks for this. I'll try to emulate. It looks like a lot of effort, but my main concern was a lack of result. You've answered that concern in this vid. Thanks!
Switch filming and foam is nice and all, but the real difference comes from lubing the switches and stabs. I've heard the stock stabs are really good on the SK61, maybe it differs from time to time. Hoping mine will sound good, but I can always mod it.
To me the main problem with the optical keyboards is that they sound louder and hollow, but once you put a nice thick foam below the PCB it's pretty good.
