Thank you for watching! This is basically a review of the gateron optical yellow switches very the very similar silver switches. The keyboard I tested it on is the Gk61 from Hk Gaming. The optical yellows and the GK61 are known to be the fastest keyboard in the world, but I find I prefer the silver switches over the yellows. Plus, the SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL is still the fastest keyboard in the world with its omnipoint switches. This video includes gameplay footage, sounds test, and in-depth comparisons. These were not sent to me for review. The sponsor of today’s video is from TubeBuddy (affiliate).

me who's watching with my brand new custom mech keyboard with gateron yellow:
There's a difference between the optical and mechanical yellow switches, just so you know. The mechanical gateron yellows are generally regarded as one of the best linear switches at the price point.
@Jacob Hennon I do not use a GK61, my bad I misread the title and I did not see that it spoke of "optical" yellow gateron.
@Jacob Hennon i call mines custom because i changed the pcb and stablizers
Jacob Hennon imo if it’s the barebones version it’s still a custom, just entry level.
That’s like saying the hotswap dz60 isn’t custom
So is silver better?
The camera work, the quality, the editing is off the charts man. Keep up the good work and you will grow in no time.
Just replace the springs with better spings anyways and you can customize the force required to press. They are both practically the same other than the springs and the hole on the bottom that determines the actuation point (but in normal use most people won't care about the actuation point too much). Also, if you want that clangy sound to go away lube the switch and the stabilizers in the bigger keys
bad video
Thank you so much I was about to buy the gk61 silver switches for 80 dollars but instead bought the dk61E you saved me some money, I'm 100% subbing
Silvers are not better but they also aren't worse, they are almost identical to the yellow ones; the only difference would be the different actuation force and that's really mostly preference, yellows would suit you better if you like the feel of a lighter switch while silvers would suit you more if you like the same speed as the yellows ones but with a little heavier actuation force, personally I prefer Silvers, because I feel that the heavier actuation force makes me less susceptible to missclicks compared to the yellows.

Bought the DK61 last month with the Gateron Optical Silvers and they feel amazing. Definitely an upgrade from my off-brand Cherry MX blues. I bought it when there was a discount and a $15 coupon so it was around $45. 10/10 recommend for the price. The keyboard also comes with some nice PBT double-shot keycaps.
this guy doesn't even know what he's talking about. There's a diffrence beetween optical and mechanical switches. Optical have bigger wobble and do also bottom out higer up. Also his talk about silver being faster while having a 10 gram diffrence is also just made up. Typing or gaming for that matter is gonna be slightly faster for most people. Now because he's probably not familiar with the yellows hes not gonna prether them over the silvers.
there's a real concern over too easily actuating a key when you don't want to, just by resting the fingers a bit too hard. false positives are crucial to not have. thus too low actuation point will be a horrible thing.
Bought the dk61e with blue optical switches but changed to silver and it was the best decisions ive ever made.
Nothing can beat the spring weighting on Gateron Yellows. It's just perfect!
I just bought a gk61 with optical yellows (optical silvers were the same price) for $40 AUD on Amazon ($27 usd) it will be here in 3 days
The yellows sound sooooo goood when lightly lubed!!!! They sound like a loud tactile switch so if that’s what your looking for get the yellows. But if you want the traditional linear mound than get tha silvers
But both of them are linear? The blue optical ones are tactile

I recently got my first ever mechanical keyboard (HK Gaming GK61 with gateron optical silvers). The first thing I noticed is how heavier the switch got as I was bottoming it out. I'm definitely gonna replace the stock spring with a spring that feels more consistent throughout.
The second thing I noticed is the actuation distance. That 1mm actuation distance felt wrong to me. I'm one of those people that like to hover around the actuation point while gaming. ( i don't like to bottom out a key, I also don't like to let a key fully reset.) Luckily for me, Gateron optical reds are like silvers but with a 2mm actuation and a 4mm total travel distance.

A quick tip if you have heavy fingers or if you a bit older get the gateron optical silver it’s the best switch for heavy fingers that you can get in the market
for typing at least .. the yellows were way too sensitive so I put the springs from the optical yellows into the optical blacks and it feels and responds amazingly..
Best thing about mechanical keyboards with hot swappable switches. You don't have to use the same color of switches throughout the entire keyboard. You could use a heavier switch like cherry on the WASD keys while using a lighter switch on the rest of the keyboard. Since most keyboard/mouse gamers tends to rest their left hand fingers on the WASD keys.
I believe standard Gaterons (not inks) are made with a polycarbonate top and a nylon bottom, for both their mechanical and optical switches.
That's what I thought but I wasn't sure! Cheers
The yellows sound like legos bruh
man o man.... really like your videos very detailed, your video feels like next gen. The Quality and Hardwork u put in these videos is mindblowing, far better than many channels with 1million subs.

Hey thank you homie!
I can say that the yellow switches yes are very sensitive BUT if you are like me and can get really used to them in like a day or 2 then you will be great. I love the switches they are really quick in terms of typing and gaming on them. Nothing really bad happened to me yet.
I feel like the yellows are better, lighter spring is awesome minimum effort needed longer gaming seshes
I love my Gateron Optical Yellow switches with 50g springs. The other springs are just stupid light and since I use them for gaming. It was just not right, even for typing they are too soft.
which springs did u get
Ok the yellow switches with pudding caps sounds like LEGO building game ngl
yellow is good for me but only space bar need more force since just rest your thumb will lead to it activation on yellow

I think keyboard actuation "advantage" applies mostly to MOBA games such as DOTA or League of Legends. FPS are mostly mouse oriented, and I find keyboard advantage to be very minimal in performance improvements.
Hmm in games like fortnite and valorant and overwatch actuation does matter

very nice video quality all i can so though is that you may want to lube both for a sound test because i think that the yellows sound much better than the stock yellows lubed. i dont have much expiriance with the silver but honestly lubing the yellows may make it shine above the lubed silvers.

disagree, as someone who has yellows I prefer the light actuation. I've found it has helped a ton with the stress on my fingers as I can apply minimal force to maintain constant keypresses (like shift+w for example) without having to resort to some sort of toggle bullshit. then again, i've been using the yellows for a couple years so maybe i've just trained myself against the light accidental button presses.
What I really want to find is something similar to the GK61 in a 75% format.
have u tried 45 grams switches theyre not that heavy i have hyperx reds
i prefer lubed yellows! extra sensitive switches are a plus to me!
The dk61e comes with pbt keycaps it’s basically the same as the gk
and dk61e packaging is sealed properly so it looks brand new while gk61, ducky, leopold are not sealed at all.
i think personally when going optical red is better than yellow because its 10 heavier actuation. Normal gaterons yellow are heavier. This almost made me spend money.
Now i'm looking at optical blacks, those seem really nice as well.
The gateron yellow optical switches are still better to me. And who rests their fingers on their keyboard while playing games? You would have your fingers ready to press the key but you wouldn’t relax on your keyboard 🤦♂️🤷♂️😂. Still subbed and liked though your very reasonable and smart... I think.....

I don't suggest optical switches in the GK61bc you are limited to only optical switches in a hotswapible keyboard, you cant put in pandas (Just for say), long story short only get optical switches if your not going to hotswap the switches :D
Bruh do you even realize what you just wrote
The reason I'm getting the yellow switches is because the silvers are out of stock. Prices are same btw.

Also if your switch says Gateron yellows don’t get it ( I mean if u want to u can but) make sure if your looking for fast keyboards the switch is OPTICAL

Hey TMT I love your videos but I got a question, This is my first time getting into the keyboard modding community but I want something that sounds like a lubed gateron yellows but I want to actually feel the bump when I press a key (not sure how to explain) but I mainly want it for MMOs and FPS games like Destiny and CoD. heads up to everyone that thinks these switches are going to make you a god at fps', theyre not. if you're playing rhythm games there is an obvious advantage, but if you're playing warzone or something, this is the last thing you should be worrying about. your mx blues will get the job done, even if they suck. YOU WILL NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCE.
Rielly you should try the Leopold FC660M PD because I think that it is the closest to an enthusiast-level custom board when it comes to build quality that you can buy pre-built, it doesn´t have some weird ¨Fastest Switches¨ Gimmick it just has really good build quality and it comes in a variety of Cherry MX switches, it's nothing special like I said it doesn´t have a weird gimmick, its just good it might not sound interesting because its like every other keyboard, but its amazing to try.

no joke that first snipe i saw someone post it on tik tok and it was like send this to the best sniper
WOW! I recently got into the GK61 and you covered it really well! I even like that you brought up the DK61e, because I think that’s the one gamers should get! I had to return the GK61, because it looks like it has a very low polling rate of 100hz, while the DK61e has it at 1000. Making it more “accurate” and faster, in a way. It also comes with PBT keycaps, which are better. I was planning on ordering the DK61e w/ yellows, but i think you’ve convinced me to get silvers. The yellows do make it faster since it’s less resistant, but I did think it was very sensitive. Maybe that’s something to be accustomed to.
