Is this Pen Design a Ripoff? -- MOONMAN T1 Review and Drawing

  • Ultimately, I am very pleased with this fountain pen. I am happy to see companies who are bucking the trends, making new (and in some ways better) filling solutions. The downside of having the ink in the actual pen is that it's sometimes more difficult to clean out and switch inks. But personally I don't often switch inks, except for demonstration purposes, and I really like how these large clear acrylic built-in reservoirs look and perform. All the Moonman pens I've had so far have been good to me.
To address my somewhat click-baity title, I think that "ripoff" is a bad way of putting it. I think it's good when companies see things they like and find a way of incorporating it into their own product with a little twist of their own. None of us exist in a vacuum, and when we're making pens or art or anything else, we're always influence by all the things we've ever seen. Moonman have succeeded in making a cool pen here. Even if the pen cap does remind one of Kaweco, maybe that's only a good thing, since I like those pen caps!

You've inadvertently demonstrated one of the design flaws with this pen. When you posted it and was spinning the cap around to show how the light reflected off the facets, the piston went up and down. This means if you inadvertently twist the posted cap, you might spray ink all over. Not a fatal flaw but just one that one should be aware of..

OK good video I did scroll through quite a few comments in that see any mention of this so I will speak out, Ssuperman powers are basically based on effort, the more effort he exerts the stronger the power he shakes your hand very easily, no difference he exerts his strength and he turns your hand the powder! He looks at Lois Lane and sees a pretty lady, exerts his power a little, no cloths stronger power her organs, even stronger her bones, stronger yet her molecules, exerts all his effort heat comes out of his eyes and burns her up! Proportional strength based on effort. Yeah I read too many comics. Keep doing these pen reviews/drawings it is nice to watch a review and not be put to sleep, Peter thanks again!

There is a fantastic retelling of the story of Rumplestiltskin, with Rumplestiltskin as the protagonist. It's called The Witch's Boy, by Michael Gruber. I don't know how into reading you are (and maybe there's an audiobook, I'm not sure), or how into the fantasy genre you are, but while you talked about how much you love cross-section diagrams, and how cool it would be to look through things that are usually opaque to human eyeballs, I recalled how the author described the magic of an object called an Earth Klaver: If swallowed, it would grant its user the power to swim through the earth like water and see its ore and riches like currents of water starkly separated by salinity. I wonder if you'd like it.
...Incidentally, I have a Moonman T1 in green, and I also like it because it combines the elegance of a demonstrator pen with the pleasant solidity of metal, and it's easy to fill and use. Stay safe and well.

I have 4 different colors of the M2s because they're so inexpensive and writes well. I do prefer the C1 style. I love demonstrator pens. I have many WingSung demontrator type pens, again due to the low price and they're well writing pens.

Peter, you might check out the Penbbs 308. You can get it as a demonstrator and, with a little silicon grease, make it into an eye dropper filler... Reminds me of the M2. Maybe you'll enjoy? I'd love to see your opinion!

I love when you wonder. I know you like to wonder about things. Its crazy how they figure out what's im the earth. They do boring and they use sound waves and so on. You're on the right track. Its pretty cool though and I wonder too.

I don't think it would get borying. You could see the Cross section of, say, diferent trees and how the inside of it is determined and also determines by/the out side.
I think that holds infinite entertaining value.

What size nib does that pen have on it? It seems perfectly suited to the drawing you do.

Since were all quarantined, how about you do a video on INK! What's your favorite brand? Color? Where to buy?....and of course, a drawing with some of your favorite inks.

Hi Peter, you should definitely make sure to frequently clean pens filled with carbon ink. Carbon ink is different from other fountain pen inks and can clog up your pens.
You probably already know this and clean your pens frequently but I wanted to make sure :)
    PS. I love your videos.

Flying at 1000 mph just hitting the air itself wouldn't be fun. You'd heat up like a hot pocket.
Also, you can't pick superman, that's multiple powers, as you said, a suite

The Moonman is the only one you can get with a Fude nib. I bought a brass version of the T1 or is it T2? I'm not worried if it's a knock off just as long as it is a good quality pen at a reasonable price and works well.
