Ive always thought the exact same. Clay obviously did sabotage the bike and have JT killed as he admitted to in season 4 but John was too depressed and guilty about what he had become and his club had become. As Jury put it it was his sacrifice, a way to let his club and family survive. Ive always wondered however, how did Clay manage to get the presidency without any push back if there wwre rumors of him being tied to his death??
Exactly!! Clay arranged for him to be killed, but John was stupid. He said in his writings that he knew Clay would try and kill him, but he was so angry and depressed with himself that he allowed himself to die, and if it meant the club could get better, then so be it.
As for Clay getting the Presidency Patch, according to my research, since Piney was already starting to go downhill with his health, Jax probably still being a child at the time, and Clay being John's best friend (well, "best friend") at the time of his death as well as Clay's connections to outside parties, he was the the supposed perfect choice for Presidency in the wake of John's death :)
@techno-pow4245 yeah that makes sense. I think Clay also had support from other members of the club. Piney was chopped liver due to health, Lenny was likely in prison for killing the ATF agents "allegedly" as Jax put it in season 3 lmao so Clay may have had some influence at that point. Probably had McGee(the Belfast president from season 3 that Clay pushed off the roof) in his corner, Tig was likely a member at the time of JTs death, and I actually have a theory that Tig earned his Sgt patch by killing John himself(but that's a different subject lol)
@@xbacongrizzler6929 Yeah exactly, Clay would've had outside support as well. And what an interesting theory about Tig! I've never heard that one before, I think that requires a video of it's own in the near future 🤭
