I finally tried the bounce cream gel and I'm amazed at the volume, definition and overall quality of the product! I used a light leave in conditioner before the cream gel and then used Paul Mitchell extra body mousse (purple lid) over the top. So happy with the results! 😊
hi chelle, you mentioned straightening your hair w gel a few times in this video…and that just blows my mind. would you mind sharing how you straighten your hair w gel, but not do lasting damage to your curls. thanks for your great content 💛🙂💛
You seem to like the souffle/custard gels like I do-you may like the Mop Top curly custard if you haven't tried it yet. It smells delicious and has great slip for distributing, good hold too
I've found that if I use liquid effects as my only hold product, I don't really get a cast, but using it along with just about any other product with any amount of hold (like AG curl fresh definer or even Recoil) gives me a nice cast. Same if I layer any foam over it. I paired it with the biolage gelee & got a really hard cast! It's quickly becoming my new holy grail styler! I've used it with many things & have yet to run into an issue!
So far I’ve gotten a cast every time I’ve used it. It’s such a great gel, I don’t know why I let it collect dust for so long, I’m pretty sure it’s making the trip to Wisconsin with me! Thank you for watching!
I'm waiting on my verb x manes by mell curl foaming gel to arrive! I also just received an embarrassingly large order of random hair products that included a few new (to me) gels & a couple new foams that I can't wait to try!
@@CurlyChelle547 mine ended up driving that same day, & I'm going to use it tonight when I wash my hair! I still haven't decided what I'm going to use it with! I'm leaning towards liquid effects. I might skip a cream altogether. She just did a live video using just Aveda nutriplenish leave in, which is one of my favs ( & most used leave in ) anyway & it came out great. So I'm thinking what she used plus liquid effects. 😸
@@VengefulAngeI yay! How exciting! I think I’ll be able to pick it up tomorrow. I saw that a pro beauty supply near me has it in stock (checked online). And then I’ll film the video on it next week. I think I’m going to do a side by side comparison. One side doing it the way she and Amanda did in the video and the other side how I want to do it. I think that could be interesting. I’ll keep an eye on your IG for your results!
Have you ever tried Mizani styling products? The new stylist who cut my hair yesterday used Mizani Miracle Milk 25 Benefits Leave In and Mizani Curls, Coils and Waves Perfect Coil Oil Gel (why are these names so long lol? 😄 ). She was Mizani trained in curly hair care, so understandable. She did give me a good cut. But I was underwhelmed by the product results. Would love to hear your thoughts on these products.
Thanks for the video. I use got 2b spiked up gel. It is a little thick so I add water. I get a good cast and my hair lasts. I get it at my drugstore and it is very reasonable. Very light scent.
Hi Michelle, Hope all is well. Thank you very much for this video which is is excellent as always ! I've been having a hard time figuring out what my hair doesn't like and I thought I'll ask what you think. Your help would be more than welcome. :) I have tried lots of the gels and cream that most curly's likes and many of them make my hair looking kind of greasy. So, I'm trying to figure out what ingredient(s) is (are) problematic. The gel that make the worst results of all the gel that I've tried is the Curl Smith Souffle. Some others are : Ouidad Advanced Climate Control Treluxe Reflex Styling Serum Biolage Gelée ... The gels that doesn't seem to make my hair looking greasy so far are the Giovanni LA hold gel and the Dippity Do Girls with Curls Gelée. Both are make my hair a little bit dry but no weird greasy look. So, I wonder if you might have an idea what ingredients I should avoid in a product? Thank you and have a nice day !
I might have to give KCCC another try. I tried it when I was pretty new to using gels but I didn't get a cast with it at all. Also, 100% with you on not getting why thicker gels often come in tubs. I don't mind really thick deep conditioners/masks in tubs sometimes but any other hair product I don't want in a tub.
It’s one of those where some do get a cast and others don’t. porosity can effect this. Yesss, why put gels in tubs? I also don’t mind deep conditioners and masks in tubs but gels irritate me! lol. Thank you for watching!
I enjoy the Liquid Effects with a few different creams. There are a few on your list that I still want to try but some are not easily available here in 🇨🇦
It’s definitely a versatile gel. It’s a bummer that many products aren’t available everywhere. 😞 I am working on trying to find more internationally available products to try. And then get them as budget allows of course. Hopefully you’re able to try some of the ones that are more easily available. Thank you for watching!
From your experience working with different hair porosity and textures, do gels perform differently if you have high porosity hair? My hair is fine and high porosity. I don’t get a cast from the TreLuxe gel. I combined it with the Briogeo curl charisma cream.
I have fine hair & high porosity & I didn't get a cast from the high def gel either🤷🏽♀️ I was really bummed. It's weird since often times fine hair gets a cast easier than coarse hair. But then again everyone's hair can respond differently to different products, even when 2 people have the same texture, density, porosity, & pattern. I'm thinking of trying it again, but going light handed just to use it as an enhancer & then layering a different gel on top that I know gives me a cast. I've seen a few people use it that way.
This is interesting- the Ouidad advanced climate control gel has never ever left a cast for me and overmoisturizes my hair. No matter what I pair it with, the Twist makes my hair form kind of a gross gritty cast and my hair feels super producty. Very crunchy but no hold when I scrunch it out. Just sticky stretched out waviness.
I tried that Kerotin gel last winter and didn't have much luck, I'll have to dig it out once the weather turns and try it again. That is so interesting re Liquid Effects, it doesn't do a thing for my hair on its own, no hold at all, like I've put water in it! However if I layer a hard hold gel over it - like Curlsmith Shine - it works great. So curious!
Bummer the Kerotin didn’t work for you. Hopefully you get better results next time you try it. That’s really weird about the liquid effects. I haven’t layered it with anything hard yet because I get plenty of hold from it. It’s always fascinating how products work I. Different people’s hair! Thank you for watching!
They are similar in texture but not exactly the same. I’d say the Kinky Curly has a bit more hold. The Treluxe gives a bit more volume. I don’t know that I prefer one over the other so much as it depends on my mood for the day and if I want more volume or more hold. Hope that answers your question. Thank you for watching!
From your experience working with different hair porosity and textures, do gels perform differently if you have high porosity hair? My hair is fine and high porosity. I don’t get a cast from the TreLuxe gel. I combined it with the Briogeo curl charisma cream. I can’t use the TreLuxe cream bc it’s perfume smell is overpowering.
Yes, porosity can make a difference in how products perform. Mostly with either high porosity or very low porosity. Not as much with everything in between. High porosity will kind of “eat” products up and leave hair feeling as if there’s nothing in there. The only way to counteract it is equalize the porosity but that’s not necessarily the easiest thing to do. I used to equalize the porosity before certain chemical services by spraying Matrix Instacure into the hair. It’s basically a protein spray. I probably wouldn’t recommend it for every day use though. It could lead to a protein overload fairly easily. Thank you for watching!
I also have fine, high porosity hair and I almost never get a cast from any product. The products seem to give good results for the most part but there is never any crunch to scrunch!!

What gel has the strongest cast my dear??? 😢 I'm struggling and going broke!!! I love your videos ❤
Wow that was a lot! Did anyone catch which ones are good for fine, high density hair? My hair is very fine per strand but I have a lot of it!
