- Review of the Flowmaster Flow FX exhaust for the Ram 1500 2009-18. Please excuse all the rookie filming mistakes, I am still learning how to film and edit. Definitely a good choice for those who want little interior noise and a nice aggressive acceleration tone.

It’s good a muffler, if anything it’s probably my favorite out of all the other Flowmaster series mufflers. It truly makes the Ram sound like a sport truck.

Michael Burke You can use the manual gear selector and choose 8th gear or buy a programmer.
@@michaelburke2824 with a tuner or simply hit the manual gear selecter when starting up the truck.. If you have the 6 speed put it to 6 8 put it to 8... If you manually select a gear it will not kick mds on while driving! 👍

@@chadnicholson227 For me personally, no there is not. Could be that I have the 8 speed transmission or the fact that all my rides have an aftermarket exhaust and I like the sound. Others in the comment section say there is a drone but I don't hear it personally and I love the flowmaster sound, enjoy and thank you.
This video sold me on this exhaust for my 17 f150. Hard to find a good real world review and this did exactly that. Thank you

this will also fit the 2019 ram 1500 classic like i have but i went with the super 10 series. i also hate the sound of cruising on 4 cylinders so i bought the EDGE PULSAR tuner and keep it on setting 8 which is performance mode/mds off. love it
I went with the flowmaster outlaw muffler. Much much better than stock as well!
Had an 18" Magnaflow on my 2010 Hemi Ram for 8 years. Replaced it with a Flow FX. Similar design, but I prefer the sound of the Flowmaster. Deeper tone and slightly more aggressive.
Try a 3" inlet, 2.5" outlet flowmaster super 10. Upgrade the stock pipe from 2.25" to 2.50", cut the resonators out, leave stock tips, or aftermarket ones. Deeper tone, aggressive acceleration tone, quiet when cruising, little drone when hauling a load.
I definitely need to get myself a Ram :)

Just wondering how to turn off the MDS?
I done it before but I think you have to do it every time you start the truck right ?
I absolutely love your Blue color and yes you have to turn it off every time. For my application, I would use the steering wheel controls to shift down once then manually toggle into 8th gear. That would not allow the MDS or Eco to come on and mess with the sound.

I have an 8 speed automatic and if the MDS is on or it goes into ECO mode, then yes I get that low drone. With the MDS off, no drone at all. Thank you for watching

I just purchased this exact muffler for my 2018 just want to let people know that this thing drones and reverberates badly at part throttle around 1500 rpm even with mds off. On the other hand it sounds great when you are accelerating.. but at cruising speeds it’s down right annoying at times. JMO

Longshot, but I'm really interested in this exhaust but my job means I go to work at 4am and i dont want to be that neighbor waking everyone up in the morning. Is this exhaust so loud that will make my neighbors hate me? I want a louder exhaust but not that loud haha
Sorry to say on a cold morning it starts loud but quickly quiets at normal idle, but that first start is loud
@@1000BadThings if you were to rate on a 1 to 10 how loud it was cold start. Where would it fall? If its loud but not wake everyone up in a 30 mile radius loud I dont think itll matter haha
@@Mrrampagejackson I would say 6 of 10 but it does quiet quickly as the rpms fall.
Im in the same situation as you, this one sounds great and the cold start doesnt seem as loud as the other ones I like. Did you end up getting one?

I do quite a bit of highway driving. How is the drone and resonance in the cab between 65 and 75 mph? I had the super 10 back in the day and it was horrible. I have magnaflow now and there's still some drone but not overly bad.

How has that muffler held up? I'm thinking of getting a flowfx series muffler but I'm worried that the muffler will get louder over time due to its design of having sound absorbing material instead of chambers
Question.
I see this muffler is offered for 315, direct bolt in. Are you using the stock tail pipes? Are the stock ram tailpipes worth keeping and just change the muffler? I see the flowfx kit is 599, which includes the tail pipes. My question really is should I or should I not get the tail pipes?
I am using the stock chrome tip tailpipes. I believe the stocks are 3 inch and I think they look okay. I guess if the flowmaster tips are bigger it might be worth it but for me it was the sound I was looking for.

Went and looked under my truck, noticed that the stock tail pipes has small resonators on them that is designed to muffle exhaust sound even more. You did say you're running stock tail pipes right?
@@T1Glucky1313 Yup, resonators on my stock tailpipes. I imagine the flowmasters don't have them, so expect an increase in sound.
@@1000BadThings they don't have resonators on the kits that are 599. So I can only imagine how much louder they are... Jesus. I love the way yours sounds.. Might just be ideal to get the the muffler only, plus is priced quite nicely. Again thank you for your response :)

Is this with or without rear resonators installed?
I need to hear these at 70 to 80 for a couple of minutes. no one does this as when you are going to work on the week day you often are going place to place at around 70 in Cali

What affect will this have on a factory warranty? I ask because it would be consider as a modification.
Honestly I never have asked, it has been in for recalls and normal service and no one at the dealer has said anything about it.
@@1000BadThings I got in touch with the dealer they it won't void warranty because it has nothing to do with drive train. So, I'm good to go with up grade.
How did you turn your two horn beep off when remote starting?
If you have Uconnect, from the settings menu, choose "doors and locks" uncheck the box that says sound horn with remote start! Thank you for watching.

How would you compare this to the outlaw and american thunder mufflers by Flowmaster?
Definitely quieter than outlaw and about the same as American Thunder. No drone in high gears with the 8 speed is what makes me happy.
@@1000BadThings I saw you had to turn off your MDS. Is the drone bad with MDS ?
I guess drone and turning off MDS is what's preventing me from getting these mufflers since it defeats the purpose for the gas savings of MDS.
@@patricklacson Yes it's terrible, it sounds weird too. It's hard to explain but it's like a 4 cylinder economy car with a performance muffler

Yes Sir, My Ram has the 3.21 gears and I see about 2 mpg more on average. I have oversize tires as well so that probably hurts slightly

if i want to keep the best gas mileage and dont plan on turning the mds off every time i drive....would it even be worth getting? is the drone during mds really bad?
Personally, I get worse mileage with this muffler (2015 ram) because I step on it more since it sounds so good. For me, the drone is bad with mds on and off so I play music. I've never had a loud vehicle so maybe I'm over exaggerating a little with how much it drones. Hope that helps a little

1-10 how hard was doin it under the truck
2 of 10 for me but the truck was practically new when I did this, no rust and the stock muffler came right off.
How do you turn off the mds
On the steering wheel, you can manually shift the truck, as soon as you getting rolling, I switch manually to gear 8, the truck displays what gear it is in and never goes into ECO mode after that point. There are a couple of videos (not mine) about doing this.

Does this muffler drone while cruising? I use to have a Flowmaster 50HD on my old 2013 and it droned like no tomorrow when cruising at 60 mph.
Fellow Star Wars Fan! No drone for me a cruising speeds, 8th gear 60 mph is only 1500rmp in my Ram, very quiet until you drop the hammer!

Kept the resonators on for now.
How do you turn off the MDS ?
Use the manual/auto mode +/- and click it up to highest gear. You have to do it every time the truck is turned off though. Otherwise it has to be tuned out.
