I really hate how some criminals are more protected than the victims. its disgusting
And they wonder why people are considering not having kids. I wouldn't raise a child in a country that does that.
very sad
Money money money
In my country people who sexually abuse children usually get two years for their crimes. Yet people who use or drug dealers go for years and years. (Remember , people don’t want to deal drugs, it’s ALWAYS a sociological problem when people either have to turn to dealing when they were trying to just feed their daughter , or they just end up dealing drugs. Unless, they’re a pharmaceutical company and therefore legal to overprescribe opiates to the point of a state of emergency in countries like the USA -basically a capitalistic induced genocide by certain companies. (Pharmaceutical companies aren’t immoral, they’re necessary , but there’s one company named Purdue which was essentially solely responsible and knowingly

If alcohol can turn a person into pedophile rapist, why not ban such dangerous substance in the whole country? It sounds ridiculous, right?
Edit: Just to clarify, this is not a call for prohibition. This is to point out the absurdity of intoxication for defense.
Exactly. Satans world
Theyre stupid. They wont get it. I havent even watched the video and I get it.
Because alcohol cant turn you into anything you aren't already. He had those desires previously, but with slowed judgment from the depressing of the nervous system thought he could get away with it. Well, that's my guess.
in Brasil, the way that law sees the use of alcohol is that it takes away the vail of morality of a person, so if they commit a crime under the influence, it is because they already had the intention of committing that crime.
Yeah, especially since alcohol is an addictive substance -- it is a drug. If there is such harsh treatment for those who use drugs, why not just treat those who drink alcohol in such ways too? Might as well, if it's only going to be used as an excuse.
I hate society who re-traumatize victim so many times and disregard respect for basic human needs and suffering.
i’ve watched almost all of rotten mango’s videos but i have been avoiding this one. i knew exactly what it was about.i was a year younger than the baby girl at the time and this happened a block away from my elementary school. her story could have just as easily been my story. i just can’t stop crying
That's horrible to hear but from what I can see of what you said you didn't seem to say you were the victim so even though sadly someone else got hurt and traumatized good thing you didn't.
the fact that his wife stood by his side, is disgusting. As a women, i would NEVER accept a man who has done something like this to a CHILD. She deserves to be shamed along with him.
She might be a victim too though. She is 15 years younger than him and might have been groomed by him.
but your ok with parents letting an 8 year old walk alone to school so something like this happens. Again no blame on parents shows how stupid our society is.
@boomshakalaka8655 children should be safe no matter what. Is still not the parents' fault
In East Asian countries, children walk to school themselves. It's actually a rite of passage in Japan, something parents can't interfere with. They walk, take the bus, or take the train on their own or with a group of friends.

The prosecutor and Cho's wife can catch these hands too. Man that was infuriating. People who treat victims like that and women who stand by these kind of men are really the bottom of the barrel of humanity.
this is why korea is never seeing high birth rates again, like 1 child per year
You can’t convince me that prosecutor didn’t enjoy hearing that story. Someone needs to keep an eye on him.
Also, countless studies show that p*dophilia cannot be cured or fixed. The only thing they can do is choose to not act on their urges, and those people will never make that choice.
An unfortunate consequence of the laws saying where offenders can live is that a lot of them end up homeless, which makes it impossible to keep track of them. We just had the most precious 5-year-old baby girl BRUTALLY assaulted and murdered because she and this monster were both living in the same homeless camp two blocks away from the elementary school I work at. It’s a big thing here because SO MUCH went wrong prior to the murder. I don’t think these predators should be allowed to have their own homes. I think they should have to live in highly supervised group homes and have some sort of intelligent gps monitors that make loud alarms if they get near schools, playgrounds, etc. So basically I’m saying they should just stay in jail.

The prosecutor is supposed to be on the victims side.

How passionately angered your husband is over this case restores my faith in humanity.
And listening to the actual case takes it away simultaneously
My sister became a special victim's unit detective after witnessing the hell I went through with the detectives & prosecutors after I was raped. She wanted the victims she worked with to know that she would do everything in her power to fight for them and with them because she hated watching what I went through - I gave up. It was too degrading & messed with me mentally, emotionally & physically! My case never made it to trial, hell, I'd be shocked if charges were ever brought against my attacker! But my experience drove her to become a police officer with the goal of SVU detective. She was in SVU for years (in the United States) & had to take a step back from SVU because most of her cases never made it to court. She felt defeated every time she'd do the work, promise victims that she'd help them get justice, then have the prosecutor say there wasn't enough for charges or a prosecutable case. She got to the point of consistently feeling beaten down by the prosecutors & she could no longer emotionally handle having to face the victims with such awful news & seeing the confusion and betrayal in each victim's eyes! Most of her cases never made it to standing charges or court! So now she's the defense tactics instructor for her agency, plus she volunteers at the women's shelter teaching self-defense classes. She doesn't say it, but I'm certain she keeps in contact with those victims she couldn't help get justice and some kind of a sense of security. I know it still kills her. It seems like victims have to prove the validity of the crimes perpetrated against them... they have to prove they're being honest, that these awful, awful things happened to them, while perpetrators can claim they're the "true victim", being targeted by their accuser for whatever reason, without any sort of proof & somehow are believed more than their victims! Heaven forbid they be seen as the manipulative monsters they truly are!
I wish justice truly was blind and that those victimized had some semblance of power in fighting for what's truly right for them, & finding power in fighting to protect others from the same fate! I wish there was actual balance!
Honestly, I wish people like these monsters didn't exist, didn't hurt, didn't like hurting others, & didn't take what isn't theirs to take!

Oh wow SOUTH KOREA laws sucking and protecting predators? What a surprise!!! This case infuriates me to the freaking core every time I hear about it, the system failed this little girl so bad
I knew about Nayoung before this video, and I think about her a lot. She's my age, or at least born in the same year as me, and her story is so sad but so inspiring, how she wants to be a doctor to help others. I hope she knows that even though she is anonymous, people across the world cheer for her to be well and to succeed in life, and to be happy always.
The protection of predators is ridiculous. How disgusting that the government cares more about these monsters than the children being hurt physically and emotionally.
Patriarchy at its most disgusting level
I think in a sick way it’s done on purpose -- because it’s proven a lot of people who were assaulted as children and later may struggle with addiction issues - which is the most persecuted area in the states are drug dealers and drug charges.
It’s “ allow the damage, make mental health care so hard to peruse or afford, the turning of street drugs, then being caught with charges, maybe even bring down some large king pen”.
It’s proven pedos can’t be fixed nor healed but people can stop selling - it’s proven that an attraction to minors at first may be assault/SA and after being caught - what happens - MURDER to not have a witness. It is absolutely baffling this issue seems to be global
its because the goverment is full of these sickos and they stick together
There's a Korean tv show about a junior cop so fed up with the justice system that he starts hunting down criminals on his own. After watching some of the Korean cases Stephanie covers, I'm starting to understand why they made that show...
Uh, no, they should be protecting him. If you have a problem with the law, change the law. He did the crime and did the time. You lost, get over it. The police shouldn’t just cede authority to mob justice.
This victim blaming, perpetrator enabling law, and people who uphold it, support it, protect it, all has to change. Fast.
I don't know if it will. Too much corruption. I know someone who has done this sort of stuff, but who is not being prosecuted because even the reporting process is difficult when someone lives in another country.
This is so heartbreaking. I'm so angry on this little girl's behalf. I'm so glad that she has such devoted parents. I hope they are all able to heal and find happiness. I wish they could've just been a normal family, and she could've just been a normal girl.
1:10:01 Ive struggled, but managed to hold back tears through this… until now. Picturing other tiny 8yr olds loving and protecting their friend. Knowing alllll the trauma she went through, but loving her and supporting her still..❤. Awwwww 1:12:10 😢😢

I’m sorry but she had to go and explain what happened to her, and the only thing the prosecutor was worried about was her posture??? What the hell was wrong with that guy…??
And he kept asking her to start over again. By now, I wonder if he was a psychopath himself
korean men are like that, especially when in positions of power.
He was thoughtless and callous to say the very least.
The question should be "what the hell is wrong with this country"
Prosecutors and judges are not what the show in kdramas. Copaganda by omission.
That was an intensely difficult episode to listen to but you did an amazing job and cases like this need the most attention.
To the point of the prosecutor, think of the nth room case, 1/100 men. What if the prosecutor was a watcher?
i didn't mean prosecutor i meant judge but the same still applies. It isn't really a far fetched accusation.
I was thinking the same thing. I watched the room case yesterday on this channel too... It wouldn't be a surprise if he was a watcher.
This story is just… I’m only 16 minutes in and I’m just speechless. I’m so disgusted. This man needs the death penalty
Same! This case is so horrible, I can’t believe someone would do this.
Absolutely vile, and to think that man only received 12years?! 😤
Same. I knew this was going to be horrific but somehow this is far more vile than I anticipated. I am probably going to finish this episode later.
Same… I can’t even imagine the pain and horror that poor girl endured.

If a human judge cannot do anything besides following letter of law, then what's the point of hiring a judge? We could just use Siri or Alexa to make a verdict. That man doesn't deserve his job.
Wow. Well said.
That’s such a good point. The judge should be sent to jail too he’s an enabler it’s so disgusting
In the old days, there was something called Mob Justice coz courts never did anything.
it's a difference in interpretation, unfortunately. the us follows the spirit of the law while some places follow the letter
well sokor laws are disgusting as shit @@Youngnrrwhtjwtjetk
This case was absolutely heartbreaking. I hope that girl is doing much much better today
Also when you talked about the Maltese I cried a little because I had a Maltese that recently passed away. Everything about that man is vile
i didnt expect to hear the assault be so heinous... i hope that poor girl is okay now. that man is such a monster
This prosecutor needs to be brought up on charges of abuse. He obviously wanted her to slip up while retelling what had happened to her. Did he enjoy listening to what this poor little girl went through? I know the law states 'a person is innocent until proven guilty', but once their guilt is proven, it is not stated anywhere that they should be treated with dignity. For some criminals they should be treated like criminals were back in they days of colonisation. Being an Australian and living in a country that was partially settled as a penal colony, some modern day criminals need to suffer that kind punishment. Even some judges and lawyers who allow vermin, like this one, to get away without any punishment or to get out of prison should be treated as criminals. We are told, as human beings we have evolved. It is clear some humans haven't and never will.
Yup, this is very sad, theres alot of ppl like this in the world, but judgement day is soon, Jesus is returning, even if u dont believe, you'll see. We should spread the gospel, God bless❤
He was getting a thrill hearing her ordeal over and over. He's probably of the same ilk as the pedo.
I was wondering really hard in the beginning about this. And why it had to happen 4 times.
After careful consideration, and if we exclude vile reasons such as "this prosecutor is just a sadist" and similar reasons there is the mildest form: too old to work with electric gadgets, hence also so strict with her posture (I don't know his age at the time, this is just what I would like to believe in his "defence")
Or
He made her repeat it on purpose to amp up his video recording. There is a possibility that "this recorder doesn't work" is a lie and that he knew the longer this little girl has to sit, the more she will look miserable on screen, making the whole case easier to win. This is still really really bad because it is torture on its own. But some people are so eager to win a case that they only see the victims as a tool, not as a client of theirs. 😢
Having that case must have boosted his credentials (at least he and maybe the judge thought like that)
I 100% Agree with u!
@@sofitomy Don't use tragedy and time fear tactics to push your cult. I'm usually as respectful as possible to religious individuals but I can't stand those who use and abuse tragedy to spread their beliefs like this.

Also, by "soon" you probably mean you'll be dead and then your kids will say it will be "soon", and thrn their kids and so on. If it's so soon why do people who live and die keep saying "soon"??? Do you people really know what "soon" means????? If it's gonna happen just say that, stop saying "soon" because you clearly don't even know when.

I watch a lot of videos like this on horrific cases and Evil human beings but this is genuinely the first one that has made me extremely uncomfortable to watch, having to take breaks because it's so intense, and is the only one that's made me cry at all let alone multiple times throughout.
I wish the absolute best for this girl and all the incredible people in her life.
I sincerely hope somebody manages to do something about this disgusting man, and that everybody who caused further trauma to the victim and let this man get free gets what's coming to them.
The fact that kids, her own friends who were also 8 just like her, were desperately trying to protect her more than the judges, prosecutors, policemen, and just almost every law enforcer is fucking baffling to me.
And it’s so fucking crazy that government officials will do literally everything to make Nayeon’s life miserable and make her less comfortable for the sake of a pedophilic r@pist. The fact they want HER to lower her comfortability for the creep’s sake is fucking disgusting.
YEAH. this is so messed up, I hope the kid is okay, he deserves hell

The judge should be held liable for those who reoffend. If I was one of the cops “protecting” this man, I would have looked the other way.
That is an incredibly stupid system that you’re describing. Judges don’t have control over other people’s actions and to imply that they police should be allowed to simple kill people because they disagree with the outcome of a legal case is, to put it mildly, a bit deluded.

As far as Jessica's Law - I wanted to point out that this came from a child named Jessica Lunsford from Homosassa, Florida. She lived in the same neighborhood as my mom and my children's grandparents currently live on the same street (however, the trailers where this occurred have been demolished). She was taken from her room, held captive, SA'd multiple times, and buried alive in a trash bag by her neighbor who was a convicted sex offender. Her father fought for the law. Just so everyone can remember her.
Bless you for honoring Jessica's memory.

I am truly sorry this happened to you. My heart hurts for you!
What a victim blaming legal system .. it's disgusting
Eternal gratitude to you for standing up for victims, victim's rights and speaking to improve the criminal justice system in South Korea and the rest of the world.
Unfortunately sexual predators are given slaps on the wrist here too. My husband is facing 9.5 years in prison for DRUG charges and we have seen countless child predators get probation or very little time behind bars. It’s sickening. Drug offenders can be rehabilitated - most sex offenders cannot.
I’m so sorry about your husband having to serve so long when there are dangerous people who deserve life in Jail walking around in public. They could help out people like your husband, they need support..
the fact you married a drug offender just shows how stupid you are and you are protecting him its pure cringe.
This is one of the worst flaws in the law system in almost every country. The vast majority of drug charges of individuals didn't pose any danger to a person but the consenting "offenders" themselves. Rehab availability and a generally improved education on drugs is almost always the right way to deal with this topic, yet people get stolen years off of their lives being opput into a cell instead. Meanwhile the hypocrisy lives on with one of the, factually speaking, most dangerous drugs out there, Alcohol, still being socially accepted and even advertised. It's so backward and unfortunate to see e.g. CP offenders getting a slap on the wrist while (especially in east asian countries like japan and SK) getting caught with a tab of acid could possibly mean to face over a decade in prison. I'm just somewhat hopeful to see a change when looking at the drug policies of portugal or the netherlands, where in the latter legal drug testing has been established and drugs such as cannabis and psilocybin are legal with mainly positive results for the country's economical and social aspect
The governments care more about money than people so because drug money doesnt go to them drugs are dangerous to them
I feel like we as humans are going backwards 😔 hope your husband is okay darling
For a country who has done so much to become a developed country I am gobsmacked at how backwards and patriarchal the judicial system is and how little they value their citizens.
As a parent of young kids and teens I feel so terrible and disheartened for the victim and her family.
There's nothing patriarchal about protecting predators
@@squizzyicetea patriarchal in the fact that most men are more valued and protected than women. Men in general are more revered and respected in Korea.
As a developed nation, I would expect their women and men rights to be on par with other developed nations, but it is not
it's actually very on brand and even supportive of male domination/male supermacy to support violent men who target women and girls. It's built in protective system for male dominated institutions. Keeping the people you are subjucating or trying to exploit in fear and terror makes them easier to control. All men are not violent rapist, many have pure hatred for rapist or pedophiles and violence against women but all men do benefit from women and girls being afraid of them and "respecting" the potential danger they pose (even if men do not want this type of fear adn "respect" from women and girls they still will get it and will benefit from it wether they realise it or not). Keeping women and girls in fear and terror makes them more likely to obey any if not most men, they will do things to avoid angering or hurting men even if it comes to their own cost, They will be less likely to challenge male domination which is important for the patriarchy and why they even support, enable and protect violence against women and girls (or in general female presenting bodies, because men who are gay, or seem effeminate and trans women due to their asssociation with feminity get targeted as well)@@squizzyicetea This act of allowing women and girls to be stalked, harrassed, raped etc. is part of gender based terrroriz to keep women and girls in fear and under mens thumb to make women fear men and obey them and also need men (always say women need men to protect them, leaving out the fact the greatest danger to women and girls is men in the first place). and so women have to be subject and "submissive" to men for protection. Rape is also a means to torture people and show women their "place". Just like stephanie said the predator more then anything enjoyed the pain and chaos he created in her life and the families life. It's a means to show power and contorl. One of the many things they drill into boys head is to dominate to "prove" their manliness and worth and who and what are they expected to dominate? women and land as "resources" and also other men to put themselves above them. Pedophiles and predators are a side effect and consequence of the sick teachings of male supremacy. People dont understand what kind of sick minds you create when you teach peopel that they are superior beings to half the planet no matter who or what they are and that violence and specifially sexual-/violence against women and girls (who are not even presetned as living beings but lesser objects) is a means to show your power and exist to be be enjoyed and used because males are "superior". Yes patriarchy is not the only reasons for mentally twisted people exist who hurt others and yes there are female predators and male victims but there is trastically huge differnce in how many male to female predators exist for a reason. And before someone says i hate men or think this is who men are. I am even more angry and distrubed because I know this sick behaviour is NOT inherent in men or boys even though some people like to act like it is "boys will be boys" nonsense and "male urges" nonsense. This sick behaviour is taught and enabled by parents, , society and medial (kids learn from subteldy and unspoken rules as well).
@@squizzyicetea Yes there is. Men in patriarchal structures are allowed to get away with anything with little to no repercussions.
Eg, A man is allowed to loudly catcall a woman but she is the one who has to be wary of him. Others will be like, "Well it's not a crime to compliment" thereby excusing the man's pathetic behaviour and what then? Well he does it again and again and eventually takes it up a notch.

The fact that the monster who tortured that poor girl is allowed to move in so close to his victim (presumably) to psychologically torment and menace her further while being protected to this extent and expanse is beyond nauseating.
It's a sad reality. I know victims that received letters from their abusers from prison and noone thought to intercept them or put a stop to them when the victim expressed outrage. The justice system is really broken all over the world
What a messed up judicial system. I thought SK was a smart and civilised country but Stephanie is widening my eyes to its real culture.
Exactly..🤮
extreme misoginy rules in that country...
Korea is consistently three generations behind western social standards and judicial standards. It’s better than what it was but the country has a long way to go on many fronts.
Hell, even western countries have a long way to go on many of the same issues.
S. Korea and N. Korea are full of smart and civilized citizens.
The problem is their government.

I've listened to hundreds of true crime stories, but this one has to be the most hellish of all because of its absurd injustice.
In America that man would have been killed. Honestly they would have killed him in prison. But he would have never been let out if he had 18 offenses.
I'm not surprised, I am also a survivor of SA and since I have spoken up I have been shunned and gaslighted while the "friend" who assaulted me is still friends with my entire family. I just want to understand how this ideology reached every single culture on earth? Why do victims get treated like this all over the world?!
Why don't you tell your family
@@Sahil24980 it’s okay read it again, think a little harder this time.
@@Sahil24980I don't think you understand how scary these situations can feel for SA survivors. This one, especially.
The assaulter has maintained a good relationship with OP's family even AFTER OP told them what they did.
Speaking up once could very well make any SA survivor feel more vulnerable, and lead to further psychological and emotional anguish.
To think of trying to speak up a second time after the way it went the first time in OP's experience is an extremely stressful thought to say the least. They could be afraid to lose the remaining support they have in their life.
Unfortunately, the people who should be supportive don't always play their role well in the lives of others.
The patriarchy/misogyny essentially. People pretend men who do this are unimaginable monsters, when in reality, it can be ANYONE. Men are taught from birth to constantly take what they want from women/young girls
@@Sahil24980 I have, thus the shunned and gaslighting.
The whole country failed to protect that little girl just like they keep failing to protect all women. This was a really tough case to hear.
Now I know why most women in Korea and around the world are defensive and do everything to protect themselves. Just imagine men ignoring responsibilities cos of pregnancy these same men are against abortion, they rape and yet are against abortion the irony of life. They cry femininity but forget they made us so. God bless all women and females around the world
Its scary how judges want to give these terrible repeat offenders slaps on the wrist over and over again. That's why the US had to make a federal law forcing judges to give criminals the maximum amount of time for their third offense. It's called the three strikes law. And I am so surprised Korea does not have something similar. Also it's weird that we even need to make a law to force judges to pubish SAers.
Thank you for what you do. Once again your channel brings attention to horrific crimes (followed by legal injustices) with dignity and empathy.
