“But why is it that not even in my dreams, you do not appear?” Has got to be one of the saddest things a mother can say after grieving for so long, this case is so sad and filled with senseless cruelty, my heart goes out to the dad, I hope he can stay well for the sake of his son.
This got me emotional too because I would have dreams of my dad who passed last year. And in the dream I will ask again and again if he really is back. The dream will convince me and then I wake up and it’s not a good feeling.
Now a days I have dreams of us arguing or everything seems completely normal.
In the dream I’m not reminded that he’s gone anymore.

This poor woman died for nothing. This death caused a ripple effect of more divorce and death. It’s so painful knowing this vile woman literally got away with murder. I am just lost for words.
Technically she isn't getting away with it because she did eventually end up back in prison. But it doesn't look like it's bad enough in there to be a punishment for her nor does she seem to be reforming.

I don’t know if it was a bad decision,..it depends. If he just didn’t want to pay someone for their work, that is always wrong, but there are also extra cash grabs or systems people can want to protest or think should change.
Like many think there should be no realtors for house sales now that the Internet exists, or that they should be paid by the hours they work, not getting a percent and making more money if they get people into houses quickly or push more expensive houses. Or like Starbucks now asking customers to tip, hoping to use a customer tip system so they don’t have to pay a living wage….I want Starbucks workers to be paid a decent wage, not inconsistent tips because the multi+-billion dollar company is being cheap.
To be honest from how messed up her mother was from the cheating of her own husband, the calls only sped up a process that I'm almost certain would surface regardless. It'd maybe not be this poor girl that would've been killed but someone other one that'd be unfortunate enough to catch her attention or lingered around the husband of her daughter for a bit too long for her liking. It was said she was paranoid about him cheating even before any of the calls due to the lack of payment begun, it'd probably just take longer to get this bad.
This. I do believe the mom is unhinged, but the matchmaker not getting any sort of heat for her planting the seed. Yes she didn't know who she was telling the seedd to, but still. Over 22,000 and the son in laws fault at that.
How can you be so sure the woman wouldn't have done the exact same thing even if matchmaker was paid?

I find it very unlikely this would happen without the man not paying the matchmaker. Money is the root of all evil unfortunately. Please look into the case of Alexandra Macesanu: a Romanian schoolgirl who was kidnapper, raped and murdererd by a taxi driver. It's a very heartbreaking story especially because she managed to call the police when the guy was out but they waited hours in front of the taxi driver's house instead of barging right in.
Later when the man was arrested it became known she was at least his second victim as he had killed Luiza Melencu too and maybe even others.
It caused a huge scandal in Romania as it showed the police's corruption and incapability to protect the most vulnerable.

yeessss!!! I was actually planning on suggesting this too at some point but I was too shy to do it! thank you! this case absolutely crushed me at the time, I remember being so invested in the investigation as it progressed. I think about it every now and then. I will never forget Alexandra's story.

the story was actually way more complex than it seems. her remains were not found immediately - which was weird as the police came the next day after she called for help. the kidnapper claimed to have burnt the body but it was almost impossible to burn it entirely within such a short timeframe. later a few remains have been uncovered, but it's speculated that Alexandra was actually trafficked and that the local police was collaborating with a trafficking network (they were all acting incredibly suspicious so this theory seems plausible to me, especially taking into account how Romania is among the top European countries for human trafficking). the police might've glossed over the entire story to save an entire nefarious network. in any case, a very heartbreaking case.
Her Mom sounds like she was jealous that the daughter had found a man who wasn't cheating on her. Maybe the Mom felt comfort that all men cheat so when hers cheated, it didn't feel so bad but when she saw the genuine relationship her daughter had, it made her feel bad about her life, her marriage, her decision to stay in the relationship (which would be so difficult to leave) that she couldn't take it. The only way to resolve that was to prove her own belief right, that all men cheat and the more she was proven wrong, the worse she felt and the more desperate she became.
They didn’t have a genuine relationship it was set up for political gain. He just wasn’t an ahole that would cheat even if he wasn’t drop dead in love with his partner
It’s a mindset that I would never understand: it’s your own flesh and blood so you would think that the parent would do everything in their power for their child not experience what they’ve been through/ are going through. But they see it as competition. And even if the parent sees them as an extension of themselves, they would want them to live well, to succeed and flourish in life. Those people do not deserve to be parents

This is absolutely tragic. The fact that her mother died from a broken heart and the father feeling glad he got cancer. My god, I can't believe the suffering some people have to go through due to somebody else's action.
The last few minutes made my eyes tear up so much! How utterly heartbreaking for the victim and her family. Sounds like they were such a loving family and the daughter was an amazing law student. Her death was also the death of her loving family. So tragic and senseless. Monsters like Mrs. Moon deserve no sympathy.

What a wild story.. I wonder why the son in law did not let his wife know about her mother's issues before it escalated to this point? And the fact that the dad had to buy food for police to coax them to do their job.... absolutely infuriating. Poor girl didn't even do anything to deserve this and had her whole future ahead of her.
This hits close to home. The mother in law was an evil bitter person to start with but she checked up on the girl and saw a dedicated, focused student on her way to becoming something brilliant. As the situation escalated I honestly think the mother in law just wanted tear down a young woman who dwarfed her in every conceivable way. I have met many people like that. People with money and reputations based on lies and privilege.

This poor girl has a very sick mother. My mother-in-law told me that I’m not allowed to be in the same room or car with her daughter’s husband because we will cheat with one another. And it’s disgusting. And my mother-in-law is about to get her son all to herself well sorta. He’s been cheating so she will has competition. Hopefully divorce will be finalized soon. Being with them in their family since I was 18 and I’m 48 now. It’s minding how I allowed this horrible behavior toward me for so long.

They have "soon to be Judges" aged 27 in Korea??? That's wild. In the UK, you have to have 20 years experience as a qualified lawyer before even applying to be a Judge (ie. minimum age 44 years old)
You SHOULD have to be middle aged to do that job. I mean, I don't think any decent person ever takes the job and as such, no truly appropriate person ever actually takes the job as a judge, but something OFTEN happens to a person's mind at middle age (not always though) that just changes them and makes them so much better, gives them a quality that, you just never see in one that's younger

I'm so sorry for everyone who suffered from the actions of Mrs Moon. My dad had Parkinson's Disease, which doesn't directly kill you, it's the side illnesses that will ultimately take you. My dad was put into a nursing home, with elderly people who were old enough to be his parents. My dad suffered TIA's, small strokes, which took him, he was 65 years old. How dare this woman lay claim to illnesses and cancers to receive elite treatment, when there are families genuinely caring for, or mourning the loss, of loved ones. Ggrr. As an American/Korean, I am so disappointed with the South Korean police and judiciary system as a whole. My mother is Korean and she comes from a wealthy family, we never struggled … she always told me about how honorable Korean people are but when I listen to these stories by Stephanie it makes me angry for the victims and their families. It’s like they get victimized twice or more. And the rich do get special treatment and should not. You do the crime you do the time (not a vacation)! I don't think there exists anywhere a perfect judiciary system. Simply because it involves human brings and we are imperfect. While the majority of judges likely go into the job to do good and uphold law and order, those rich and powerful enough to be able to pay to get away with it are going to seek out the minority who are corrupt and bribable.
I am from Latin America and when I read these comments I'm always baffled at the cultural differences around how we see our countries. It's as if people in Korea and in some other Asian countries are conditioned to trust the word of their country as a whole, including authorities. Meanwhile here it's the exact opposite: we are conditioned to trust no one, and to think not only will authorities not help us, they will try to drag us down. We can be proud of our country in the sense that we love it, but no sensible person here would tell a foreigner "yes, us peruvians/paraguayans/argentinians are so honorable". It's more likely that we will tell them to watch their pockets if they ever come here.
On top of this case being insane, the hospital exposé on torturing homeless for millions a year is terrifying!
Gosh, I cried when it ended with Tia’s letter. It really is scary to know there are mentally unstable people out there. Tia’s family was all innocent. Maybe Tia’s soul is still roaming that place since she died an unnatural death so she didn’t appear in her mother’s dreams. I hope Tia finds closure to meet up with her family meet up some day.

This was such a sad case. I am Black American woman with Indian ancestry. When I was in a grad school several Korean international students showed interest in me. It was very confusing because I thought they were simply being very cordial since they never asked me out. I found out when I became friends with Chinese woman who was in the same classes. I had no clue. After this video I am glad I didn't get involved. I don't want the wrath of a Korean mother-in-law directed at me.
My heart is just also breaking for Ha Jinyoung’s son. That little soul is seeing his whole family be ripped apart in the worst way with no one to take care of him either.

Makes me sick. She basically got away with murder. She murdered an innocent, bright, young woman with her entire bright future in front of her. My mom, has a lot of mental health things she suffers with so much so that she was eventually ruled incompetent to stand trial. Anyways, she was thrown into jail for over 3 months with a plethora of actual physical and mental disabilities for failure to appear, which she failed to appear because she was homeless and had no car to get to the court date. Court was due to her having a fight with my sister outside of a gas station where eye witness said she hit my sister, which my sister herself denied, but the state pressed charges. Anyways, when she finally got bonded out of jail by that same sister, she was down to 88 pounds, completely traumatized and her health has quickly continued to quickly decline since then. She had been on loads of medications for years, they let her withdraw cold turkey, she had no teeth so couldn't probably eat the food she was given, so they let her starve. She was treated terribly and completely disregarded because she was homeless and looked at like an addict, even though anything she did was medicine she was put on by doctors, and only ever took it as prescribed. Just goes to show money can buy you every and any thing.

About the mother's paranoia: I've seen this mentality in my own mother. Basically..reality is not aligning with their perception of the world, so instead of accepting that what they think is wrong, they do whatever they can to make reality reflect their delusions. They won't ever be at ease until that happens, and my gosh it's exhausting.

i a so glad you are shedding light on people who has money and usually get away with things like this. Alot of things these elite ppl sweeps under the rug that we probably will never know about It is terrifying. You are my favorite true crime channel the emotion and detail you give in these cases are amazing and the way you explain things that are not known to ppl in foreign countries is amazing i learned a lot about different legal and businesses in different countries because of you and the explanations .
a person like "Mrs. Moon" will probably end up with the same conclusion regardless if the matchmaker planted that thought in her or not (I still think they should be held accountable tho). I also think that it wouldn't matter who it was she would end up accusing. she has absolutely no regard for human life like she has no regard for money. that's the kind of person she is and if hell exists, she definitely has a reserved spot in it. I hope Jihae(?)'s dad finds it in him to forgive himself. none of what happened was his fault. also, that poem for her mom was beautiful. I was tearing up listening to it.
That would be a tough case to prosecute. The matchmaker could just say it was a prank call and even then, how do you prove those prank calls caused all these chain of events?

Wow, the part with the mother writing a letter to her dead daughter with "why is it that I can't even see you in my dreams?" had me absolutely breaking down, I can't 😭😭😭 Can't imagine losing my child, never thought about an aspect like this... How heart breaking. And to the horrible mother in law; she was channeling all the hatred and frustration she felt from her husband's cheating into this poor, innocent girl, no matter how much longer she would have waited and how much less and less likely it would become that this girl was dating anyone at all, let alone her own cousin, she would have never let go, because she chose her to be her target. As a woman I absolutely despise women hating on "the other woman" instead of their husbands when those cheat. HE cheated on YOU, there is TWO in this relationship, the THIRD party has nothing to do with the TWO of you. It's simple math, really. HE is at fault, when HE cheats!!!! Now, that is not to excuse a woman willingly and knowingly being with a married man, especially if he has children at home, really, you want to be a home wrecker? You think he's not going to do the eeeeexact same once you get into the role of new wifey? Please!
I didn't seem to hear in this story at all that she was really putting PI on her son in law, she was doing those stupid sand tricks and what not, but should have had him followed as extensively as her. Instead she sends a second PI group to follow the first PI group that follows an innocent girl. What an absolute delusional b*tch.

I had thought that the Korean Police had reformed since the 1990s in which corruption was extremely rampant and they were so inept; listening to Stephanie and her amazing stories I guess the Korean police hasn't changed at all; corruption and ineptness is still rampant. For such an advanced country and its fast and amazing story of growth, some things haven't changed; the rich still can do as they want as long as they have the money to pay.

There was no way in hell the son-in-law was going to tell them to back off. As long as they were chasing his cousin, he was free to go be a man whore. They weren’t going after him or his girlfriend, so he let his cousin take the fall.

As well as he should have talked to Mrs.Moon regardless of if he was cheating or not. His ignorance and lack of action led to his cousins murder and many lives being ruined over it all.
I just really wonder why the justice system in Korea is so ineffectual all the way down to law enforcement. Especially for a country as safe as it is (for most part).

Omg, the story about what that hospital does is something out of one of my worst nightmares! I'm surprised they don't take their organs while they're at it! That is one of the most insane horrible things I've ever heard! Side note, here in Florida, my brother was in a prison for a bit and he actually showed me where their meat that was served for them for dinner was marked not fit for human consumption! Wow I can't believe there's actually a place on earth like this, those poor people! Like they don't have it bad enough right???

Would you be willing to take about the case of the Jamaican man who went to Japan through a job offer of being a Dj, and ended up being tortured by a gang and sent back to Jamaica on an emergency airlift landing them on Jamaica’s no fly zone for a while due to the maltreatment of them in Japan? It’s sad case but really interesting history between Japan and Jamaica. Would love to hear about it from your perspective of what happened.
