What an awesome advert. Epic scenery, great storytelling, amazing photos and top notch videography. So nice to see y’all being able to spread your creative wings 👏
Thank you Anthony! This was such a fun film to produce. I haven't felt that creative in a long time, and I was loving every minute of it. Doesn't hurt that Idaho's scenery is easy to work with!
I identify 100% with that quote at the end. Being in a new place with nowhere to be, ob your own to just explore the world around you with your camera is pure therapy for me.
I took one of Matt's night sky workshops in the Tetons. He's a great teacher and was fun to be around. I got one of my most favorite "keeper/portfolio" photos of the Milky Way with Matt. This was a fun video to watch. thanks Matt!
Stanley - What a great spot. I had the opportunity to spend the night there while heading to Sun Valley over the Mtns. to the South. I hope that you got to visit the hot steam bath next to the River. Great photo of the adjacent mtns. across the river. Wow memories.
Excellent piece! So personally and beautifully done, and a nice sense of a photographer’s use of a particular camera. Would love to see more like this. Creatively inspiring.
Great video! Reminds me so much of the documentary-like features that DPReview used to do. Visually on point (both photo and video). Big props for Matt for choosing to be vulnerable as well...wishing you well 👍
Loved it, such a great example that it's about the stories we tell and the viewer's emotional response to it, it's not all about the gear. Reminded me a lot of videos by Chris Eyre Walker and Matt Horspool (Etchd Photography), who are some of my M43 heroes😊
Very cool. There was a show way back in the 70's/80's with Bill Leverton Called On the Open Road, where he visited and talked about backroads and historical places in Arizona. That was my dream for such a long time, and I barely did much with it so good on Matt for perusing his dream. I still have it in my head to do things like this about Arizona, or whatever state I end up in, so love to see the storytelling, videography, and photography.
How do you keep your EM5 mk3 protected from weather. I rook mine out with the 12-45 and water got onto the hotshoe in no time whatsoever and the screen stopped working. I had to let it dry and clean the hotshoe to get it to work again. The weather sealing is no better than my old Sony A7 iii.
We actually just plugged the audio recorder into the plane's comm's system and pressed record. Plane's are usually pretty easy if you have the right cable!
Awesome videography & photography and all the best Matt at getting over the breakup. Otherwise, will we get a BTS of this video? For example I do not know how the motion starting at about 0:39 was achieved. Also, is that a new orange shimoda action bag?
@EquatorialVillager Thanks for watching! No behind the scenes video, but I will be publishing a behind the scenes story with photos on PetaPixel early next week, so stay tuned!
A wonderful video..some nice photos from your OM5, especially the night shots, but more curious about the cameras used to film the video itself which I thought was the best of this. Not likely your OM5 I suspect. I travel to similar areas often, but do as much video or even more than photos. Beautiful area!
Thank you for a beautiful and an inspiring video. I'm sorry for your breakup, Matt. Being alone can be beautiful, once we stop missing the other (I'm not talking just partners). 🙏
(I realized I directed this to Matt while this is not his channel. Still, I do hope he sees it.) I wish I could take one of your workshops. I have some experience with the OM-1 but could always use more. I was actually at the Tetons this summer, but I didn't have enough time there. I wish I could spend days, if not weeks, there. I've got to try the Live ND with an ND as well. I think the combination might be nice. Mix them. See what happens. So much is experimentation. I've been trying some astrophotography. I'm not at all experienced at it though. Finding those dark skies is difficult, as you point out. Living your life as you do is my dream. I've wanted to do those kinds of things for a living for most of my adult life. Yet real life makes it hard. So for now I live vicariously through artists like you. I am sorry to hear about your breakup. Take care, sir. You inspire me and many others.
Thanks for watching @jonathanscherer8567! You can find Matt's social links (as well as his future workshop schedule) in the video description. Please take a look and reach out to him. He is a really great guy and I hear his workshops are excellent!
I enjoyed the video. I love this channel and the reviews, but it is cool to also hear stories about photographers and and what photography means to them. I catch myself too often falling into the GAS mindset and not thinking about the joy of taking pictures. Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks for watching Mike! Idaho really is incredible, and I am lucky to call this great state home. Let me know if you ever make it back out here and I will meet you in the Sawtooths!
The OM-5 may be a good camera in some ways, or even many ways. But if you insist on including a micro-USB port in 2023, I will not buy it. Or recommend it. Micro Four Thirds is a system for those who value compact, lightweight, gear. I don't want to carry another cable, just for my camera. But with the OM-5, I will have to carry both the cable and a dedicated power supply, because the AC adapter I use with my phone is not compatible with the cable that comes with the OM-5. Or I could buy specialty cables which are hard to replace quickly. Do not buy the OM-5. Buy a used camera, if you can live with micro-USB. Or buy a new camera with a standard USB-C port.
This was so inspiring.

Thanks awesome to hear! He is such a nice guy and great photographer. And he didn't complain about getting only 6 hours of sleep in four days!
have it in the contract to title ads as ads.
Wow! Just wow! Awesome story. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! We appreciate it.
Awesome clip, love your sharing.
Great video. Idaho is an area that looks really good for landscape photography. Nice job.
You are a brave soul! Safe travels while you chase the light.
Just one word: Stunning!
Thanks guys ...
Thanks Ken! Appreciate it!!

Amazing work!! Incredibly beautiful landscapes and great storytelling. Well done
Thanks for watching and the kind words!
What backpack is he using in this film? Looks exactly what I need for outdoors and shooting at racetracks.
@dwnforcemedia it’s a Summit Creative backpack.

What a great piece! Thank you so much.

loved the video.!!!
Thank you!

Thanks for the kind words Lim! Fun fact: I was lucky enough to be in two of those DPReview Field Test videos. Check out the one we made in Mongolia!
@@MichaelBonocorePetaPixel nice! Will definitely check those out!
Thank for this fantastic production
Thanks for watching! We had a blast making this film, even with the lack of sleep.

Thanks! I am really happy you enjoyed it! Love Chris Eyre Walker's work! He would be a great subject for one of these films.

Thanks for watching and the kind words @Chaelaz! We always welcome you in Idaho! PLENTY of backroads and history here. It's a really incredible state.
Can we switch up sponsors occasionally. Feels like petapixel is owned and operated by OM since I've been watching/listening
Was this uploaded to the correct channel?

I would love to know how you captured such good audio of the conversations that happened in the plane near the end!

Thanks for the kind words Gordon. All footage (excluding drone) was filmed with the OM-1 and OM SYSTEM lenses.
It's always awesome seeing people in your home state!
Nothing like the Sawtooths! I love seeing the reactions of people when they first see this tiny little town in front of a stunning mountain backdrop.
I like the video aspect ratio at the begging as its great for watch on a phone. Less happy about it then going to 16: 9 after the begging

enjoyed the video, did you use the 12-100mm on the om -5
The videography is 10x.better than the photography here. Also please mark this as sponsored content since it is 100% an ad.
Run of the mill landscape dad photography
Beautiful
Thank you! Idaho is a stunning place. Come visit us up here anytime!

Thank you Andrew! Happy to hear you enjoyed it. We are working to bring you more of these stories, so stay tuned!
Thank you! Idaho is gorgeous! I only saw part of it when in Montana and traveled across the southern border of Idaho briefly.
Thanks for watching Mike! Idaho really is incredible, and I am lucky to call this great state home. Let me know if you ever make it back out here and I will meet you in the Sawtooths!
Nice film...sorry to hear of your break up Matt...no doubt tough
Cute OM System advertisement. I will say the computational elements of it are nice. But still prefer full frame.
Nice commercial!
3:10 ...did he say "OM System gear?" 😮
Yes. So?
@@danieldougan269 Micro 4/3 gets so little respect 😅. I actually shoot birds with the 100-400 lens he uses in the video.
This is what I call a very long advert !!!
He wouldn’t happen to be a doctor, would he? 😂
Oh goodness chap. Hope you're on then mend sir.
Nothing more then a spam video for the OM system lol
He is a om ambassador- what did you expect? I don’t understand you people sometimes.
Spam? This must be the highest quality "spam" I've ever seen.
