Definitely his first album is the best. Stunts blunts ect.. You could play it from start to finish without skipping a track. I was into the whole DITC thing in the early 90's with Lord Finesse and Showbiz & AG. I don't think they ever bettered that 91-93 period. But the first track i heard he did was Finesses's Funky Technician. I didn't know he was the producer until later.
Best kept secret. When I heard Stunts Blunts and Hip-Hop I was hooked. I didn't even realize until I got that CD later that he was on ATCQ "The Bizness" w/Sadat X. All the joints in this one were super nostalgic for me. I love The Crusaders, too. I had one Jazz Crusaders record but I haven't seen that one. My crew was going to get to open for a bunch of our Old School heroes in 1994-95 at this international tour that Zulu Nation was a part of called "Back To The Essence" Hip-Hop tour. It was supposed to celebrate 20 years of Hip-Hop and everybody got Visa's to go overseas in my crew but me. At the last minute the tour fell apart because Showbiz and A.G. (or one or the other of them) couldn't leave the country because of a murder trial. I'm not saying they killed anybody. But Zulu Nation pulled the funding for the transportation to the first gig overseas bc they were the only Zulu Nation group on that leg of the tour and the whole rest of the dates were supposed to be financed by the first round of shows in England! So maybe they did kill that tour and my childhood dreams of getting to rap with Kool Moe Dee and The Jungle Brothers, but I don't know if they had anything to do with the death of their manger. I did get to open for The Alkaholiks and Masta Ace one night and then ironically got hit by a drunk driver on the way home. Thats the story of how I bought my EPS!
NO doubt. Thanks for making videos about the stuff I like! Diamond D did a good project with the emcee Dillon recently that is pretty dope. Maybe you'll get to it if you do a part II.@@DJFurio
Furio I'd love to see a part II. Diamond D deserves it he's one of the greats. The whole Stunts, Blunts & Hip Hop album is a production masterpiece. But you hit on my favorite that Dove sample from Cymande on "The Score" is epic. My favorite track on that album.
To add to my previous comment. For me three stand outs on Stunts, Blunts & Hip Hop are: Best Kept Secret, Check One Two and the incredible Sally got a One Track Mind!
I deeply love Diamond D beats, but I think you don’t have his best on this video. He’s a monster. He’s one of my absolute favorites. Peace to Diamond. You have changed so many of us…
Great video! Diamond D is a national treasure when it comes to producers. 2 of my favorite tracks that you didn't mentioned, (maybe in part 2) were "Sally's Got A One Track Mind" & "Day One" by D.I.T.C., which he is apart of. Keep up the good work!
I had the absolute pleasure to sit and talk with Diamond D 2xs in Charlotte NC for a beat battle. He is just as authentic as his music!!!! Thank you for the dope hiphop contribution
That charles Wright sample..sounds like ("Rock rock yall?") from ATCQ the love movement i think but pitched way down, and mos def (yasin bey) was on it.
Before i pressed play, i read the title n the first beat that popped in my head was NEXT LEVEL BY ALKAHOLIKS. I love that beat. It definitely gets overlooked when Diamond D is mentioned. I still have the cassette for his 1st album. Start to finish, never skip. 5 Mics classic.
Love the sample breakdowns. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Brand Nubian changed their lyrics on "Punks Jump Up To Get Beatdown" for their best of .They just used the radio edit from 92 where Sadat rhymes "I can flee fly flow, rip up a party".Instead of "f#ck up a F#@@O1"
@@DJFurio Maybe because the radio/video version is a fan favorite. Sadat and Jamar's cadence is much better. Their's also those classic one liners "Check It Out Now". In my opinion, it outweighs the dirty version.
I know that some of his records did not contain samples per say. They were just taken as notes from multiple songs built into a tune. Very hard to get a law suit that way, very clever skills.
very curious as to what you mean by "taken as notes from various built into a tune." as in, replayed riffs/lines that are added to the track along with original ideas? or something else?
It's about time i seen something on here about Diamond D ditc crew producers he told all of us he was the best kept secret that shorty has a 1 track mind is fire
@@DJFurio ahhhh thanks for the quick reply. No, my fault for not listening through the whole track! My fave Monch track, great video sir and keep up the great work.
I'd say just like L.E.S. highly underrated maybe and maybe even slept on a tiny bit also. However, he is my favourite producer on the mic! (Asides from Necro that is, lol). I'm sure he firstly went by the name Diamond D before eventually dropping the D ? Going by now, just Diamond ? Edit: Yes we need a part 2 ASAP and make them longer, lol.
He definitely went by Diamond to start with. Look at the cover for Stunts, Blunts & Hip Hop. It just says Diamond. And then his 2022 album The Rear View has Diamond D. As far as making them longer, probably not. I know how long the majority of people watch for and around 8 minutes is the best length to make.
The Hiatus is not from his "solo debut album"(Stunt, Blunt & Hip HOP). It is from Hatred Passion & Infidelity, his second album. You can hear it by the way it's sound...
@@DJFurio NOPE. The psychotic Neurotics is a crew that helped along the D.I.T.C but this is definitely his first solo album. Diamond D said it in numerous Itws. It’s like saying that Iron Man is not the first Gostface solo cause of reakwon & Cappadona…

Stunts Blunts and Hiphop is one of the very few albumbs that goes front to back with no skipping - still sounds fresh

I consider it to be one of the best 'produced' albums in hip hop. The beats are bananas.
