Cool to see the progression. Been following you guys for a while, since the RM racks days (love that rack). Excited to see what you bring out to KOH this year -JK
What a kickass video guys! Really impressed by the production. Somehow the Sherpa 4Runner just keeps getting cooler and more badass. Can't wait to see how you all do. Go Team Sherpa!
Really generous guys from Sherpa❤️👍🏻quite delighted to come across your path. What a beauty..not a toy at all, here goes my subscription, sharing, and thumb up My little way to reciprocate for so much from you🇨🇦🇨🇦👍🏻👍🏻
The drivetrain is mostly stock. Engine and Trans are factory with no modifications. The transfercase is the part time case from an FJ Cruiser. Then, the front diff is factory with an ARB Locker and Yukon Gear and Axle 5.29's and the rear is a Ford 9" with a Yukon Spool and 5.29 gears as well.
First time seeing your channel. Alex did a fantastic presentation. It's one thing to list equipment and specs, but he sprinkled in a generous amount of WHY bits for almost everything**. Very informative and entertaining. Thanks! **Informative on every item: Amber lights because you like it in the dust (and matches the wrap color), UHMW skid for slickness, limit straps and coil-overs critical to prevent CV binding, factory brakes for easy parts, S-pod switch pods simplify wiring (and allow duplicate pods), air-jack for lightness, fuel MPG and reasons, etc. Damn great details.
Can't wait for this year's EMC. Love your videos. Will be watching you and some of the other small teams. I'm hoping one of you guys, small teams, will podium!!!
Do the 2009-2014 caliper and rotor upgrade from a 5th gen, bigger caliper bolts up to stock spindle and parts at any part store or junk yard love it on mine 😎😎😜
You guys run Icon's IIC system? What inputs does it use? G-force and vehicle speed? To meet rule 3.9.7-2 I imagine it cannot or must not be enabled to use shock position? Is this something the team has to block in the software or did Icon pretty much produce these shocks for 4600 class? In the same vein the rule states you can't use position but I guess velocity (dx/dt) is okay? The whole system seems like it would be a lot of fun to mess with and tune.
Hi John, The shocks do not have any sensors, it is all based on G-Force inputs on the vehicle chassis and adjusts the CDC based on those inputs. It is a unique and cool way to do it, it fits within the Ultra4 rule book and works very well.
What do you think of a V6 racer? Are you allowed to do any engine modifications to the V6 to make it race ready? - Supercharger or even the simple plug and play Pedla Commander to give it faster response? *I have the 4th gen
V6 can party for sure. We have people in our class racing 4-cylinder Toyotas that are competitive. You can not do forced induction, but you can definitely do modification, including, bore and stroke, tunes, pedal commander, etc. Check out the Ultra4 Rule Book!
At the time of this video, we were running the stock ecu. We have since upgraded to a Tune by MBP Tuned K-Line ECU's through @Moddedbyphil on Instagram. Been liking it a lot so far, but only have one race under our belt with it. instagram.com/moddedbyphil/?hl=en
Awesome truck! Why do y’all have a front bumper like that? I understand it may just be a legacy item on the vehicle but it seems like a lot of weight that’s just hurting performance. Just curious, thanks! Lot of cool stuff on this thing!
Slightly not applicable but since your doing endurance based racing, I'll try a go: on the v8 platform, what can be done to address better durability/reliability/service for the v8 Trans and 4x4 actuator? I have a deal waiting for a 2006 w v8 and 238k but I know for a fact she hasn't engaged 4x4, well ever

Thank you!
Good to see the self-lubricating plastic suggestion in action! Wish you the best this season! Thanks for repping us 4th Gen 'Runners!
Can’t wait to see it on the lakebed in person
pretty cool to see you guys running that 4Runner hard without any bypasses!
Thanks!
You inspired me to continue building my 03 v8 4runner, i hope one day i can get mine on the track!
I have a 4th gen 4R and a gen 1 Raptor and I love seeing this truck and progress! Really makes me want to all out with the 4R one day. Rad stuff guys!

i watched the whole damn video waiting see that rig in action for goodness sake!!!
Cool video but I would've liked to hear about the drivetrain and any mods in the engine bay.

@@sherpaec cool thanks

I freaking love this truck! Rooting for you guys at KOH!
Great video. Looking forward to all the KOH videos.

Thank you for the kind words!
I'd day to have this done! It is a great use for a 4th gen and that V8! I'm loving Icon!
This is a work of art!!
Toyota 4runner awsome 👌

Love the build!
Love seeing this thing, it's an absolute beast!
Looks like ya guys got ride of the 20 plus switches that were on the center dash
Yes, we switched everything over to two SPOD Systems. Way easier to use, upkeep, and package.
@@sherpaec looks way way cleaners guys love it

is the bumper custom? i wasn't able to find the exact one on the addicted off-road site

Are you running a factory ECM/ECU? Also have a 4th gen myself, been following you guys for about year now. Love the content on the 4th gen.

@@sherpamotorsports much appreciated. Keep up the content
Awesome truck!

Just curious, thanks! Lot of cool stuff on this thing!
Grand scheme the bumper is rather light, and works very well for us.
Out of curiosity, why did you opt not to run bypasses on your suspension setup?
We are not allowed to run bypasses in the 4600 Class. Otherwise it would have definitely been a consideration!
@@sherpamotorsports Ah, I see. Thank you for the clarification.
How many miles are on the truck ? Original engine ?
Approx. 200k or so and yes the original engine!
Awesome build, makes me want to move to the desert just to do this. so what is done to the motor? or is that some no-tell secret stuff?
The motor is completely stock!
how much does all this tuning cost approximately?
Slightly not applicable but since your doing endurance based racing, I'll try a go: on the v8 platform, what can be done to address better durability/reliability/service for the v8 Trans and 4x4 actuator? Swap the transfercase to the FJ Cruiser Part time case, outside of that we dont have many issues at all.
@@sherpamotorsports how involved of a swap is that?
Any horsepower mods? Awesome detailed video! Subbed
No modifications to the motor, just Doug Thorley Long Tube Headers.
Cool! Why 5.29 vs 4.88?
Still plenty of speed available and the low end torque is a must for the rocks.
will you guys be at the Big Sky 200 this year?
Yessir!
7% 😶🌫️
Anyone know how much this would cost to build? I gotta think that after man hours it's 100k+
somewhere in the 100k range is realistic. Especially including labor.
enough with the mods already, just buy a jeep
What about the engine mods!? 🥹
Stock motor and trans. Only a cold air intake added.
Its a V8 no need to modify. I found this out AFTER building my 2019
