I’m a 53 year old woman. Today’s my 53rd birthday. I worked in a hospital for the entirety of Covid. Our thanks is the hospital is closing in 2 weeks. So I went and bought a drum kit, something I always wanted. It’s set up in the basement and I am really learning from you. It’s cathartic to just jump into something you were always “too busy” to do and see how much joy it gives you. I am glad I found this video. Thank you!
I'm so sorry about the job loss Caitlin. Given you time for bigger and better adventures! If i can help in any way, please let me know. Drums and music are a fantastic release for life. I also have a lot of resources on my website at www.stephensdrumshed.com
I’m 57 and just starting out. I started on my E drum kit but now have acoustic. I love it! Always been my dream. Thank you Steve Taylor for all your hard work! Your amazing ❤
I also started during first Covid lockdown with buying an electronic kit from ebay. I was 53 years old and although I wish I’d done it sooner I’m so happy I did finally make the jump. You’re lucky to have a basement so you can have an acoustic kit - that’s my dream! I found that even 20 minutes a day on the drums lifts my spirits and improves focus. Keeping on building new neural pathways and nailing new beats.
Beginners...you've found a gold mine...Stephens approach to teaching is top notch. I highly recommend his 30 days to better doubles. Take your time...less is more and progessing slowly is the only way to reach your goals...
I am a dance teacher and chorepgrapher, come from a musical family ( Dad and granddad were organist choirmasters in England . I started playing oiano at age 5 but regretfully quit. As i get older (59) i find that my mental/ physical dextetity is waning and my coordination is a bit off. I have always lived "The Police" and Stu Copeland my fave drummer so i discided that since i can't rub my tummy and pat my head at the same time anymore that i was going to try my hand(s) at drums. I clean my place of worship so have had the place to myself. Your class is wonderful and i love your style of teaching. Not sure i will ever say "Mr Copeland eat ur heart out" but i am having so much fun. Tyvm 4 sharing ur gift freely x
im a 50something female just starting out, drums have been a long time passion of mine, i have found the above video to be very helpful, easy to follow instructions from stephen, thankyou so much for sharing your talent with us, i will be following you for my next lessons!!!!
That is inspiring - a 50-something female here also and my biggest regret in life is not having the courage to ask my parents for drums/lessons when I was a teenagaer - I have some guitar training but have always been drawn to the drums and find myself watching the drummer at every live performance I see - how did you get started?
well, Im almost 58 yrs old and have wanted to learn how to play them drums since the mid-60's, yes the monkees!! but never had the chance to as parents said no! So I picked up the acoustic guitar instead. I'm at a place in my life where its now or never with getting things done so I went and bought a nice used 5 pcs set up couple of days ago and now looking online for "pointers" and came across yours. I'll be drumming along with your guidance as I enjoy what you are doing. I know music and timing etc.... and have rhythm so I'm hoping you and I can teach this old dog a new trick or two!! Thanks for the help,,,, doug
Thank you. I’m a 66 yr. old woman. I haven’t played drums for over 35 yrs. I started playing on my own at age 15, but at that time, it was very unpopular for females to play drums, so everything I learned was by ear, playing to the stereo. I was pretty decent, but moved and didn’t play until now. I decided to learn from the basics and work up from there.
If you’re a beginner, you need to learn that progression takes time and effort. Don’t try and rush your progress because you’ll become really sloppy. This was a mistake I learned when I started playing. I was wondering why I sounded so bad...I was in a hurry to progress. In several years I was performing at concerts and talent shows. Once I found my mistake, I took my time and practiced any day I could. The smallest mistake will mess you up big time. Videos like this are so helpful because it’ll spark your brain to catch what you’re doing wrong.
We have two drum kits in the basement catching dust. It's such a shame. I'm almost 51 years and always wanted to learn drumming. Glad I found this channel. I should give it a go. 😃
This is very helpful. I'm a 62 year old grandmother who has wanted to play the drums for over 50 years. I only have a snare but I'm hoping to get a kit someday. I have some memory issues so I have a hard time retaining new info, so getting into a lesson plan where you can go at your own speed is what I need. I may be old but I'm not dead yet, so I'm going to give this a shot. It's one of the only things I've ever wanted to do this badly. Thanks alot for the videos.
I agree! I'm 64, have played several different instruments over the years, and I've just picked up an electronic drum set recently. I appreciate the videos as well, and am really enjoying the drums. Thanks for the videos!!
I am so excited I found these lessons. I am a 58 year old Grandma/great grandma and I have always wanted to play the drums. I finally got an electric drum set for Christmas and have been bashing about on it without a clue what to do. I’ve looked at other lessons on UA-cam but just couldn’t get the hang of it. I have spent all of today working on these two beginners lessons and I am really getting into it. So exciting, you have no idea. I’ve subscribed and taken a look at the web site. Shan’t be looking anywhere else now. On my way with this. Can’t wait.
As the pastor of a small church, I wear many hats, including playing the bass, 6 string, banjo. Our drummer is moving out of state, so I am taking on the drums. I learned the rudiments several years ago, and this will definitely help me as I begin to play.
At 58 I picked up a drum set at an estate sale, set it up at my house and said now what? So glad I found Stephen Taylor’s beginner lessons, it has given me a kick start and a lot to practice!
Yes! I love it! Welcome to the family. If you have any questions, feel free to hit me at help@stephensdrumshed.com I also have a lot of free resources on my website at www.stephensdrumshed.com
25 year old nb here, got my first drumset last Christmas. I never really realized how vital the drums were to the tone and rhythm of music until I listened to one of my favorite albums stoned and ended up hyperfocusing on the drummer. Absolutely blew my mind and I’ve been paying closer attention to the drum segments of all my favorite music since. I’ve played piano and trumpet when I was younger, but there’s something about the drums that’s just a lot more fun to play. Getting the hang of new rhythms and being able to pick up speed is euphoric, and even if I never end up playing for a band, playing just for the sake of the hobby and letting off steam is incredibly fun. I haven’t been able to find any teachers in my area, but your youtube lessons have helped me come a long way. Keep doing what you’re doing man!
I just got my first drum kit today. I watched this video and the other one with the drum beat. I have only been playing for a couple hours and already have something I feel proud of playing. Thanks so much Stephen I’m really excited to start this journey.
I'm 36, just starting out. I've wanted to play drums my entire life and decided to finally go for it. I purchased an electric set and these lessons have been amazing! It breaks everything down and super easy to follow! I already put some of it to Back in Black and I can't wait to be able to jam! 😄
Haha! I love it Katie. Makes my day to know the lessons have helped so much. I have a lot of other free resources on my website. Be sure to take advantage of those as well. Let me know if I can help in any way. And welcome to the fam!!!
Hey Stephen! Just got to tell you that Even when I was a Beginner (1 and a half years ago), You were a great influence on me! Like at Drumeo, Drumming in Church! I go to a church of about 150 people and I just got to let you know that helped me a lot cause I am playing Twice a week live in Church and Youth Group! That really helped me Excell in Drumming, And I owe it all to you man! Thanks!
Just started, I’m 50 years old and always wanted to learn. I ordered an electronic drum set this year during the outbreak of Covid. I really like the way you break down the lesson. Thank you!
Just started playing again after a 20 year hiatus. Church needed a worship drummer to fill in. That led to a full time drummer. The music changed so much. It’s more nuanced and complex. I’m getting so much better watching you and Rob Brown. Thanks for the free lessons. I’m paying attention.
Hi Stephen. I listened to the Jim Hall sextet recording of Concierto de Aranjuez twice a day for 3 weeks while travelling back and forth to the hospital to visit my Mum. I became obsessed with Steve Gadd's drum line. I got back home and told my daughter I wanted to learn to play it. 2 days ago, my daughter set up the drum kit I bought her when she was 13 and I have started learning! I'm 66 next week. I'm planning to be able to play a version of Steve Gadd's line one day but 2 days in I'm just loving learning a new skill. My daughter has got me started but she's away for the weekend and I found you online. Thank you so much for the free lessons.
Hi, Through the current situation I’m in isolation ☹️, so purchased a set of electric drums…Roland TV-17, (nice neighbours), watched your first lesson and I’m hooked, just about to go into my garage and start lesson two, drum fills. I’m 57 years old and never played any instrument, you’re teaching methods are the best out there, thanks and here goes lesson two.😁😁🥁🥁👍.
I just started playing drums because there was a need in our church. I’m the lead vocal and we really needed a full time drummer...I love playing drums this video helped me immensely...your video 10 drum fills helped a lot thank you so much!!!! I really love your style!!!
Thanks for these lessons. I shared this on FB yesterday... So most of you know me musically as singer songwriter, producer, event/concert coordinator, guitar player with a couple of years of piano lessons. But did you know that for the first 10 years of my musical life, aside from choruses, I was a drummer? My family couldn’t afford for me to have a drum set, but I owned a snare. In marching and concert band I played Snare, Cymbals, Bass Drum, & lots of other percussion instruments that belonged to the school. I’m happy to have something to remember and hone new skills!

Geez. This guy makes things so crystal clear. I just a month drum owner and I started playing by following. This guy will make lots of good drummers without guess work.
I'm a Grandad who plays with, rather than plays, guitar, keyboard, banjo, sax and hand percussion. I don't want my grandson to play with but to actually PLAY his choice of instruments well.....unlike me. I notice in his playing. piano and guitar, some prob's with rhythm. I'm going to try to learn rudimentary drum stuff, just like Stephen's beginner lessons, and pass it on to him in time with his progress. This is going to be much more about improving his inbuilt metronome than actually playing drums although it clearly has the potential to be enormous fun!! I think I've stumbled upon something great here. Thank you Stephen. Chris.
Yay, thank you Mr Stephen, I love your method of teaching, I got three brothers and they all play drums, piano and guitar and the African talking drum, but none of them have the time to teach me coz they are never home, the little I know (been playing amateur for 3 years and still dont know a lot) I picked it up from watching them play whenever they rehearse for church when they are around, and I'm a singer so no time for sitting at the drums either, that's y I got on youtube looking for videos to help ☺
I am 53 years old, female, and just learning to play the drums. I have always wanted to learn. As a kid, my dad said no, it was too expensive. So, here I am learning!!!! I love the Stephen Taylor videos. I have only been doing this for about 4 days and already know more than I thought I would. My husband is impressed. I am going to check out Mr. Taylor's website and possibly a membership. Thank you!!!
Thank you Stephen! I'm now 60 and going back to beginner level drums after 30 years. This really helped me find my way back to feeling like I will be able to play again and continue to improve. Keeping it simple rather than overwhelming or intimidating. Love your teaching style!
First , I love the drums, 2nd my uncle played them all his life. So I started taking lessons when I was 59. I'm now 72. Still trying to learn. It's surprising how a simple lesson can help get a guy over some lumps in his drumming. Thanks Steven
Stephen, i am almost 59 and have always wanted to play the drums. Bought my first kit a few days ago and came across you videos. Now i have also looked at a few others but none seem to be as in format able as yours. You make me want to learn more and be better. I was able to pick up on your first lesson, “ the money beat” in a short time. Thanks for doing these videos and i plan on watching everything you have. I would recommend these for anyone getting started plus the ones who already play. Thanks again Stephen, Jim
Hi Bud - just to echo Mr F below, Im a similar age and back in the day wanted to play drums so went to a teacher to begin learning how to play. First lesson - walked in to a studio with 2 or 3 kits set up and was told to sit behind a practice pad and began learning rudiments. That was it...for another 6 months thats all I did without getting behind a kit at all. Was told "you cant play drums until you become competent at rudiments". Became so bored and dispirited I stopped going and that was that. This of course was before Internet and YT etc. Something Ive always regretted and rued what might have been if only Id tried harder and stuck to it. Jump to now and see lots of your ( and others) lessons here and see you can learn from behind a kit from day 1. Finally got the kit Id always wanted and for 2 years now Ive been feasting on all the great teachers here helping others and am having a ball. As for back then, I dont know of any music tutoring where you learn to play without playing the instrument - ah well better late than never I guess - but how my life could have been so different if only... Without being too dramatic - thanks to you and your colleagues for helping me get my life back.
I'm 52 I never wanted to play the drums before, I started trying to play to have a little family band while my son played the guitar. This has been very helpful and I'm getting into the drums the more I practice
Thanks Stephen. I was taught by friends 2 decades ago these basics, but never understood how fills actually worked. I never continued playing since, but my buddy wanted someone to jam with so here I am. Thanks for the straight forward content to allow me to help him out. 🤙
Studied violin for years because "no daughter of my mother was going to play the drums and be a hoodlum!" At 55, I bought a cheap kit and started lessons. A year later I bought a good Gretch kit. I've moved and cant find a drum teacher except online which hasn't worked too well due to internet connections in my drum room. I really loved this video and I hope to find more!
I am 52 years old and new to drums with ADD so I check out easily. Dude kept my attention the entire time which is nothing short of a miracle. lol Great lesson!
Thank you for being a fantastic teacher. I am a 64yr old guitarist and vocalist. Never ever considered learning drums!! Not my kind of instrument i thought. Had a little play with a friends drum kit about 2 years ago, and fell in love with them! But, i never thought to go any further with learning them as i thought it was too difficult. Until, i saw this beginner video of yours. This coincided with a friend buying me an early christmas present of an electronic drum kit! Well, i have got to use it now haven't i! Thank you once again:)
Very helpful!!!! I need program to practice and grow daily. Im a 55 yr old mom who is finally living doing things I never thought. Been playing about 1.5 yrs on and off. Having a blast!!! Love your videos
Been playing guitar for a decade so I’ve meddled with a kit here and there but never seriously. Lately I’ve been thinking about getting a kit so I bought some sticks & got on UA-cam. I was on the fence about purchasing a kit but after watching your video, (It took me about 5 minutes to get it down) I ordered the set I was looking at.
Self taught drummer here just getting back into playing after a very long time off. I must say the way you explain things is very helpful. Wish I had video channels like this many years ago. Of course that was way before the internet lol. Great job.
I really appreciate your dedication to playing music and teaching others what you know. I came here because I am learning as many instruments as I can so when I start a band I can teach anyone who fits the band and vibe of the group even if they dont know to play and want to. ✌😊
I decided to start drumming after a 40 year haites, as our church drummer moved away. You might say that still small voice asked me to step up. Oh boy. Great lessons here
excellent way to deliver the knowledge. I'm 52 years old, I play electric guitar at intermediate level. I am also naturally musical, and it comes easy for me. I bought electric piano recently, and learnt the notes, and memorized Bach's Prelude in C Major. Then I started composing my 1st song ever, both on the guitar and piano combined. I also bought Focusrite digital interface, and started recording my 1st song. Then I needed drums, so I programmed them in Reaper software, and it sort of did the trick, but it was boring. Of course I could program more sophisticated drum beats/transitions etc, but it sounded artificial, robotic. Then I bought NUX DM-8 electronic drum set, and now I need to learn how to play drums. I was playing without any lessons whatsoever, and I did make some basic improvements, I play with a clicker to learn to play evenly. So your lessons are exactly what I need as we speak. Of course I know nothing about drum kits, but I fine tuned the hihat, and it feels right, of course I would need a professional drummer to evaluate the NUX DM-8 hihat, but to me as a beginner, it seems to be doing what it's supposed to. It plays open and closed sounds, and even seems like it smoothly transitions the in-between stage. It also has muting feature when you touch the edge. I actually compared NUX DM-8 to Roland TD27KV and to me NUX sounded better, especially hihat. Also Roland discouraged me with the plastic rims inside the toms, which I kept hitting with the sticks, and it was very annoying. NUX DM-8 has a "real" hihat stand, and the plate moves nicely up and down. Also all the drums were bigger in diameter than Roland's. Yes I know, most people would choose Roland because of the brand, but I compared them, and NUX sounded better to me. I also have NUX piano, and my daughter has Roland piano, and I believe NUX sounds better than Roland.
Been playing guitar for 40 years or so (I’m still not that good) and fancied a go at drums. Just bought an electronic kit and have gone through the first lesson and this one. I have pretty well got this down within an hour or so. Brilliant start - many thanks. Happy new year from the UK.
Always have wanted to play, but put it on the backburner... I am ready to hop in now and the video has helped me with the thought of transitions! Thank you for the help!!!
Thanks Stephen; seems like many of us are coming back to the drums - some of us after decades ! Practising my rudiments every day and really enjoying all the practice - muscle memory is real 🙏🏼🥁🇦🇺
Love the beginner lesson you offer. Just started playing the drums at 59 years old. Like you mentioned, I had no idea where to start. This gives me a good foundation to launch from. Looking forward to learning more and possibly subscribing to your online lessons. Thanks
Gary I have wanted to play drums since I was 12 but it was never feasible and now I've got an electronic kit. I'm 33 now and been kicking myself for leaving it so long to learn as most drummers you see have been playing since they were kids. It's nice to hear I'm not on my own with the whole late to the drum party thing. Good luck with your drumming 😀
That's fantastic Gary - I'm 50 something and have always had a secret wish to play drums since my teens but never had the nerve to ask my parents, or space for a drum kit etc. How are you doing?
SueRosalie Make a start SueRosalie, I’m 55 and also harboured dreams of playing drums for 50 years. Now I’ve started, on my 2nd class, got my sticks and practice pad and I LOVE IT!! Go to it girl xx
Thanks for a very helpful and informative video! I put my drumsticks down 30 years ago and i always regretted not learning how to play the drums. Now 30 years later and I'm learning how to play again and it feels great. I only wish we had videos like this around back then and UA-cam. Thanks again I really appreciate it, you Rock!!🙏🏻
Thank you sooooooooo much!!! I have studied with two different teachers over the last 4 years, one who learned by ear and couldn’t write out the music and one with a Master’s Degree, that left me alone to transition. I really need your lessons!!!
Just turned 50! I have a goal of wanting to play in the worship group at our church. I've been looking for something like this so thank you for taking the time to put it together. Once I figure out which steps to take next, I'll keep moving through.
Separated from my husband as I needed to find myself and better my life and music I have fallen in love with :) drums I have always be interested in and finally I purchased a electric drum kit . Love how easy Stephen teaches. Appreciate the help and each day I'm getting better :) 😀 cheers and thank you
Hey Stephen - this is awesome. I took up drums a week ago... aged 50 something... I've been a guitar player for ages, but drummers are hard to find and I want to make music. So I figured if I can't find a drummer, I'll be a drummer! Just hooked the fill to the groove. Crash is catching me out, but I'll just keep practicing it. Thanks for making this content available, it's super appreciated.
Damn Stephen! You're on a roll mayyne.. I'm still trying to get down the "punch jab" in When the Levee Breaks from yesterday. The ghost notes were a struggle last night. You're on top of it!! Keep 'em coming sir. Thank you!!
I totally appreciate your videos and they are a blessing. I will simply express my personal opinion perhaps as a constructive food for thought. I feel there is too much talking simply in comparison with most of the videos i follow. I wanted to get into your program but i find my self waiting till you get to the actual lesson. Your charisma is there but as a total beginner i need more of you showing me slowly than boring me slowly. I do try to focus on the lesson and your gift of kindness with these videos and may the lord bless you richly and give me more patience and tolerance.
This helped me slow down and focus on my timing, thanks! I have wanted to drum since I was 7-8 yes old but never really got the chance except on extremely rare occasions. My gf and I moved into a new place and we have an extra room so I said screw it and bought an ekit. I’m almost 26 yrs old now been playing 3-4 hrs after work everyday and more on weekends! I’m loving it and feel progression daily just from the 3 weeks or so I’ve had it I have made good progress. I am addicted to something productive, finally.. haha. Thanks man and keep the great content coming please.
Im a guitar player, and wanted to expand. Got myself a drum set for my birthday a few days ago, and this was a really great lesson. Simple yet feels like I’m already rocking. Thanks for the help.
This is excellent we bought our son an electronic drum kit for Chrismas to compliment his school drum lessons he's been having and to try an ween him off the gaming console, as learning an instrument is such a good skill to have, (I play guitar). Even I have been 'having a go' at a basic drum groove and want to expand my skill set. I'm natually left handed yet play guitar right-handed but drums I'm leading on the hi-hat with my left so not to mess with setting up the kit for my son. I've subscribed to your channel and going to show my son these videos.
Me too. My brother startet drumming when he was a teenager, and I, now 36, lent his old drum kit to get over the corona virus lockdown and my former relationship. Drumming really helps when you suffer from heartbreaks!
It's very helpful lesson for me. Im 60 yrs old try to learn how to play drums..Hopefully it's not too late for me to learn... Thank you for your lesson.
This is gold, you started me up right on my first day, I can follow you, understand what you mean and this is incredible. This gives me also understanding for drums when I'm on the bass
Learning drums because I needed more in my life than video games and programming. Just got my drum kit today, and before today it was over 10 years since I'd last hit a drum.. Really enjoying your videos
Bought I drum set for my son for Xmas ended up coming on UA-cam and learning some beginner drum beats so here I am.... Thankyou and look forward to browsing your tutorials
Man, I love this channel. Everytime I feel stuck or in a rut you drop a nugget that I can work on to continue making practice functional. Today you talked about transitions and mine are definitely awful.
I often try and makes drum beats and drum fills by myself that I've haven't heard of yet (even though I've be playing for a few months). But watching videos like these help a lot in creating or doing for the first time cause helps with the creativity of drumming. So thanks :D
Hello you asked what made me start the drums. Here I am I am almost 40 years old and I’m just starting on the drums. I am a classically trained singer A music degree.and I wanted to sing at my church but they were already 20 volunteers for singing and zero for playing the drums. So I said I would play the egg shaker ( 6 months ago). And I developed until tambourine and the box drum and snare. And I was doing pretty well at that and I realize that we just couldn’t do some songs because we needed the full kit. So last week I said well what are you waiting for let’s just try it. And I playedFor our Facebook live church service on Sunday and it went great. Now I’m trying to learn really quickly about all the technicalities of the drums. If you want to see my first attempt, look up ‘community of faith at the corner’
Much appreciated-- Mostly brand new drummer here.. I bashed on some when I was younger..no technique or training. Found Stephen yesterday bought the Drummer boot camp course..on my way now.
Great video. I started playing guitar and piano at the age of 10. Im 23 now and wanting to try something new. my grandfather bought a drum set and I became very intrigued. can't wait to try this!
Mark Richer It’s one of the most important elements we can pay attention to. Completing the phrase, transitions, groove, timing...these are where the rubber meets the road. I’ve heard drummers in professional environments screwing up transitions, performing them with poor timing, etc. That’s not a slight on them, we all do it at times. It just illustrates how important it is. I still work on transitions on a regular basis.
Just started learning drums and the two videos I have watched so far have been great at getting me going! I watched several other videos that just didn’t get to the point like these do
Glad to hear it Doug! I have a playlist of beginner song lessons on my channel as well. Some other free resources on my website at www.stephensdrumshed.com Glad they're helping so much
It has helped . I started playing drums to do my own drumming on the songs that I write and there is work for basic drummers . Your drumming is good and your approach is good . Your shirt screams " I am more country than you .."
Nice 1 and 2 fill around the drum kit. I think I can remember that much! I started with cajon to help deal with bereavement, and I am learning to use the drum kit during this corona virus quarantine. Your videos have good sound, good picture quality and lighting. Your step by step teaching is well done.
Hi Stephen, started my first lesson with your video today and its awesome, step by step movements, never played in my life, I bought an Alesis Nitro mess kit yesterday and finally put it together this morning.
Thank you Stephen! I’m three weeks into learning drums and your UA-cam explanations have been well thought out and help me understand. I’m looking forward to joining your school!
I'm so sorry about the job loss Caitlin. Given you time for bigger and better adventures!
If i can help in any way, please let me know. Drums and music are a fantastic release for life. I also have a lot of resources on my website at www.stephensdrumshed.com
We arekindred spirits...I'm 55 and just started during covid. Good luck to you:) drums are so much fun
How's the boosters going? Working really, really well I hear.

I like your videos. I started my 5 year old on drums. Going over with him what he learned put me in a trance allowing me to ignore the mayhem.
I'm almost 40 and just starting! Yey to us 🙌
Your the only dude ,that speaks a language I can understand and learn .I'm 64 .just starting..you rock
This really helped me...I am an older person learning to play for my church
So glad it helped...and thanks for serving at your church! I do the same
I am doing the same! Ahah although, this video didn't help me to much because I need to get new vocabulary and for now is not really easy 😅
Keep on, at some point the circle seems to close and you understand things at a much deeper level
@@xpela100 try out making doubles out of 16th notes with the same hand... Made my drumming so much more powerful

i play guitar but our church lacks drummers. so i have to learn it and do my best for the Lord. and your lesson is helpful.
Our church was in need for a drummer I'm not very good but I didn't want to say no to God. And he has helped me so much and these videos also👍
If you’re a beginner, you need to learn that progression takes time and effort.
I am a 74 year old woman have just started playing drums some 6 months ago. Thankyou for your help
Good for u
I'm 62 and just learning

Hell yeah brother rock on🤘
I'm 36, just starting out.
I’m 31 and just got my drum set today and got hang of these exercises in a second. He’s an excellent professor! I can’t believe it’s this easy
Thanks!
This made my day. Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know how much the lessons have helped
Hey! Thank You! And YOU are Welcome;)
Hi,
Through the current situation I’m in isolation ☹️, so purchased a set of electric drums…Roland TV-17, (nice neighbours), watched your first lesson and I’m hooked, just about to go into my garage and start lesson two, drum fills.
In marching and concert band I played
Snare, Cymbals, Bass Drum, & lots of other percussion instruments that belonged to the school. I’m happy to have something to remember and hone new skills!
Retired wanted to play all my life now I'm 57and just starting been helpful tu

There's nothing quite like the feeling of being a beginner drummer. Drum fills for beginners need to be simple. This is a drum lesson with an easy beginner drum fill that will have you drumming along to songs in now time. I hope it helps you as you start out on the drums.
And if you ever need a system that will work you through all of the steps a beginner should be working through, Check out the Drum Better Daily program. I've got a beginner series that guides you step-by-step through the process of first learning the drums.

I am going to check out
Mr.
Thanks Steven
boomer mesich It’s the simple ones that turn on those light bulbs for me too. So glad it hit you in the right spot
Wow that gives me hope that it's not too late! Have always wanted to learn - my secret wish!
Thanks again Stephen,
Jim
So glad it helped! A lot more resources on my website as well www.stephensdrumshed.com
48 next month. Started bass 10 yrs ago, started drums two weeks ago...super happy to have found your lessons here. Thank you
I'm 52 I never wanted to play the drums before, I started trying to play to have a little family band while my son played the guitar.
Dude kept my attention the entire time which is nothing short of a miracle. lol
Great lesson!
Success! Welcome to the drum fam!
Best. Teacher. Ever.
You bet my friend
Great job.
So glad it’s clear for you...and welcome back to the family!
i've been having percussion lessons for more than 15 years and started drum kit, only four lessons, its so much more exciting.i'm 49
i juswt started back up after 36 years and i am loveing it again i am now in my 50s thanks for the video its great
Welcome back to the family!
Glad to have ya in the fam! And glad this helped my friend
Thanks
So glad the beginner lessons are helping Gary! And welcome to the fam!
@@spudmint I wish I was still 33 and wouldn't hesitate to get started!
So glad it helped Tim!
This teacher is amazing I bought my drum the second day I start playing just like what his doing. Thank you so much you are amazing 👍👍
Thank you sooooooooo much!!! I have studied with two different teachers over the last 4 years, one who learned by ear and couldn’t write out the music and one with a Master’s Degree, that left me alone to transition. I really need your lessons!!!
pleiades96 You’re more than welcome. Sorry you’ve had a string of bad teachers. Happy to help ya in any way I can.
Just turned 50! I have a goal of wanting to play in the worship group at our church. I've been looking for something like this so thank you for taking the time to put it together. Once I figure out which steps to take next, I'll keep moving through.
I watched tons of videos. This is the first one that helped me understand the connection of fills and grooves. Thanks
Separated from my husband as I needed to find myself and better my life and music I have fallen in love with :) drums I have always be interested in and finally I purchased a electric drum kit . Love how easy Stephen teaches. Appreciate the help and each day I'm getting better :) 😀 cheers and thank you
So glad you're finding what you need here!
You bet Paul!
I'm learning to play drums cuz I'm 48 and I wanna rock!
Damn Stephen! You're on a roll mayyne.. I'm still trying to get down the "punch jab" in When the Levee Breaks from yesterday. The ghost notes were a struggle last night. You're on top of it!! Keep 'em coming sir. Thank you!!
Thanks Spencer!
Spencer Kragseth love playing that song!
Hey Eddie...check out the latest lesson I did on 10 funk grooves. I think it will be up your alley
Stephen thank you I am a beginner trying to learn for church. I love the way you break it down for us.
I’m 51 and just beginning to learn drums this helped me so much! Thanks!
So glad it helped!
Did this over and over and got better......thanks
I am learning drums in the corona virus lockdown.
Me too
Need to do something useful with all the time I have :D
Me too. My brother startet drumming when he was a teenager, and I, now 36, lent his old drum kit to get over the corona virus lockdown and my former relationship. Drumming really helps when you suffer from heartbreaks!

I would like to learn drums even the basics so I can teach the kids in church ...The way you teach it is very clear .
This is gold, you started me up right on my first day, I can follow you, understand what you mean and this is incredible. This gives me also understanding for drums when I'm on the bass

Malbolgia's Spawn Welcome to the fam! Love it...and makes my day to know that my lessons help you in any way.
Great demonstration for beginner drum tutorial. Going back to the basics is always good for development.
Man, I love this channel. Everytime I feel stuck or in a rut you drop a nugget that I can work on to continue making practice functional. Today you talked about transitions and mine are definitely awful.
Great content. I am a brand new drummer. This was not only slow enough for me to follow, but very informational. Thank you!
So glad it helped...welcome to the family!
very informative i have not played drums for 55 yrs. our group was drafted and we split up. i just used a simple drum playing.
Thank you so much! Step by step allowed me to get it down. So great! Thanks again 🤙🏼
This is by far best tutorial here, i am beginner and learning a lot
This definitely helped me. Really simple and informative. I’m learning to play for fun/stress relief.
Much appreciated-- Mostly brand new drummer here.. I bashed on some when I was younger..no technique or training. Found Stephen yesterday

Great video. I started playing guitar and piano at the age of 10. Im 23 now and wanting to try something new. my grandfather bought a drum set and I became very intrigued. can't wait to try this!
Welcome to the drum fam William!
This is really important, I've seen some drummers here on YT that have timimg issues transitioning from beat to fill back to beat. Good stuff Stephen!
Some other free resources on my website at www.stephensdrumshed.com
Glad they're helping so much
It has helped . I started playing drums to do my own drumming on the songs that I write and there is work for basic drummers . Your drumming is good and your approach is good . Your shirt screams " I am more country than you .."
I have 2 new songs on my youtube channel . I just faked it for those 2 and I need to be better .
So glad they help! Can't wait to have ya!
This video was hugely helpful! I bought a drum kit yesterday and started playing this morning and I feel like I can actually play something now!
