For me it’s THE dungeon crawl. The possibilities with this game is unlimitless, it’s a work made out of love for classic dungeon crawls this game, will never leave my collection!
100% with you on this. The tensions it can grenade in its systems are superb. This for me is Advanced Heroquest (a fantastic sandbox) spiritual successor.
If I had to keep only one game this would be it. Perfect system, campaign, exploration, combat, magic system, character development. After trying it for the first time, I almost totally stopped playing any other board game. I even play the campaigns of other games using dun rules. Also amazing fanmade content in bgg. Anything I say is not enough. Whq95 and DUN is all you need. And whq is mainly for the warhammer setting and nostalgia purposes.
I just finished reading the rulebook! Starting play tomorrow! And Rob, you, dungeon dive and calismar were a big part of me backing this game. Thank you.
Have both Dungeon Universalis and league of dungeoneers. I can’t split them as they are both amazing Have pretty much stopped backing dungeon crawlers now as these two games cover most of the bases.
Absolutely agree. Have been playing this for 2 years with me as the Dark player and this is the best vs dungeon Crawler out there. We have house ruled a few things and the system is great for house ruling!
@@MarsGamingGroup First of all - DO NOT START WITH THE LIGHT RULES. THey are different from the normal rules and will only confuse you later. Houserules: 1. That you only engage 1 model same size as you instead of all adjacent models. Large models engage 2 models. Otherwise you get situations where 1 fighter can negate a bunch of melee zones so you can just run through and kill their wizard. 2. We have just started with a new initiative system as we found that I as a dark player almost always had half my creatures removed if I lost initiative before they got to act.
We all have our favorites, but for me I always come back to Descent Journeys in the Dark 2nd Edition. This was the first dungeon crawler board game I fell in love with and enjoyed more than HeroQuest. And with homebrew adventures and all the archived adventures off the Vault, I always have a new experience. Don't get me wrong,, I have DUN, LOD and many many others, but Descent 2e will always be my #1. Probably more so for nostaglia purposes as well.
Hi Rob, couldn´t agree more... it´s absolutly fantastic! During the last months I played around with a andom Dungeon generator for this and some other modifications that improved my experience quite a bit. I did a video recently about this and I´d be curious what you think about it. Take care!
Oh I so wholeheartedly agree with you Rob. I also started gaming in 1978 and find DUN to be the best by far. Loving it. Can you tell us about your party and which campaign you are playing. How far are you
Im a family dad who gets DUN (1.3) to remember his ancient Rpg passion... I'm getting fun only in trying to learn the rulebook 😂... And still not having the opportunity to play it... My daughters are not old enough, and its hard to get playing comrades at my age 😂😂😂 and still loving it!!
I really need to dig into Dungeon Universalis! I got it with the recent reprint Kickstarter. I'm still getting through the rule book. PS: As someone in Connecticut that used to go to Whalers games all the time. I love that you are repping the Whalers hat :)
@@seahawk8601 We probably were at the same games! I was with Fleet Bank (showing my age here) back then so had their VIP seats for each game, I'll never forget those games and I still miss the Whalers today.
I’ve been ducking and diving this game for too long finding other things that I thought would fit. My needs those of all fallen by the wayside few titles that you’ve mentioned I feel like it’s time that I really look into this game.
Rob, If I could afford to buy, and store, and properly play both UD and LoD, I would never part with either of them. But I have to choose. I am buying the new LoD 2, and I will not buy UD. I learned about UD years ago from Daniel Davis's (Dungeon Dive Channel) wonderful video. I drooled about it for years, but then I discovered LoD. After months of indecision, I decided that the level of rule control and campaigning that LoD offers was right for me. I'll always wonder how it would FEEL to play UD. I feel that these two games create a benchmark of dungeon crawling for only a few people. The resonance to OSR D&D is strong, but that's not what most gamers are brought up on. I'm happy with the way modern fantasy adventure and dungeon games work, but I know that playing a few months of LoD is going to feel really special. (Playing a few months of UD would feel really special, too.) - toby
I tried Dungeon Universalis, but I'm old and too lazy to deal with a bunch of fiddly bits and learn a new ruleset every time there's a new shiney. What I've found as a happy home is Shadowdark RPG for dungeon crawls. My 5E players get it, my old school players love it, it moves along quickly, and it is completely flexible. But that said, DU has a place in my heart.
I just recently rewatched your video comparing DUN and LoD. At the time they were both keepers for you. Has this perhaps shifted somewhat? Maybe, if you “had” to pick only one now…DUN?

Well said
Except for the grenade part. 😊@@seahawk8601
Good on you to call this out. One guy made this game and it’s a true gem!
Amazing isn’t it

Oscar deserves an Oscar. Good work Rob great video. I’m off to get my copy out.
Cool
It is my favorite DC by far ... it has all I could ever want in a game like this.
Cool

Good point
Looking forward to league of dungeoneers
Good Choice! Dun goes streight to heart of Dungeon Crawl.
Sure does

I just gor my copy from the last kickstarter. I'm currently trying to soak it all in. What, would you say are some of your most preferred houserules?
I agree

Appreciate you singing DUN’s praises - just got my copy last week and really looking forward to diving in!
It’s wonderful
Now I'm interested! I have League of Dungeoneers coming, but now I'm considering getting this, too
You need it
you should... it's the better one (in my opinion: better scaling, better dice mechanics... etc. )🙌

How would you stack it up against League of Dungeoneers?
