Lovely accent bro
Hi! I'm a native American English speaker. You do speak pretty close to the American accent although we would still be able to tell that there is still some accent/weird pronunciation on some words.
However I just wanted to say to everyone from India or any other country, if you want to learn the American accent for your own interest, it's perfectly fine, but I hope you don't feel like you have to speak with an American accent to talk to Americans, live in America, etc. or that the American accent is better than the Indian accent or any others. Your culture and accent and other languages are just as valuable and cool! ❤

Hello, I've been taking a lot of accent courses online. Can it be possible for us to connect to test how good we sound?
The problem is there's no shortcut to get an accent. An accent can only be acquired by growing up or living in a place for a long time. If you ever wondered why don't British actors use their American accent 24/7 like Tom Holland or Benedict Cumberbatch from Marvel movies is because it's quite tiring to fake an accent. At the end of the day the actors are faking the accent and eventhough they can do it very well , it will strain their mouth.
Ask yourselves this,if you have a separate accent for your family and separate accent for your friends, this will be awkward for you when your family and friends meet up. What will your reply be if they question why are you speaking differently to them. Just be yourself and don't need to strain your tongue.
P.S from an Indian living in Australia
Yeah but no harm in learning to speak language the way it's actually spoken, by which I mean atleast making our accent neutral.
Accent is nothing but it is the right way to pronunciate English word properly. So there is nothing wrong to learn others accent.
I am the beginner ,I have started practicing and I am 40 to 50% capable with their accent. I hope if I continue the practice for more 6 months ,I will make improved myself more🙂.
Indian accent sucks
I don’t think it’s tiring to fake an accent. I can do most all English accents quite well as I’m a voice over artist. I can talk in British or Aussie all day without an issien
Don't want to sound rude but, are you a biological male? @@freyafoxmusic
I was born in American Midwest. A suburb of Chicago. I don't think there is anything wrong with an Indian accent or any type of accent. I actually like it when girls from India or Pakistan or countries from that region speak English with an accent. Am I missing something?
nobody said it is a problem either
Yes.
Indian women = Desirable
Indian men = Sadly, not so much

@@MrX-lk3ij yep, you do fam
We all dont have to like the same accent
The fact that you understand there is nothing wrong with an Indian accent or for that matter any accent is great however some people have to mould themselves in an American accent or a British accent for the sake of work and sadly even for education.. Accent Neutralising is a legit course offered widely in TOEFL , IELTS circles... Accent Neutralising is basically equivalent to stripping one from their identity😂 even after all the dumbfuckery going on some would have the audacity to say hahaha you got a thick accent girl..guess what I speak 4 languages how about you do that without your elite superior english accent at the risk of sounding thick or light whatever.... Talk about the privilege being born in a first world country 💀
Hi Adithya! You sound very natural in the American Accent which is awesome. I have a question for you, I myself have been learning and practicing imitation for past 2 years now(Also American accent) and the results that I'm getting are remarkably good. I have no problem with talking to people around the world they even mention that I should like a native but when it comes to my fellow Indians, I sometimes experience that they don't like the way I sound in English, or they say something like why do you want to sound like an American why don't stick with original Indian English. I'm having tough time to deal with this, I want to know what would you do if you were in my shoes?
I'm also facing the same issues.
You literally don't know on what accent to speak with people? What kind of problem is this?
@CHILLEN !! @YashTerase
I can relate to it. A girl laughed at my accent the other day and i wasn't trying to imitate americans but i sound a bit like American because i grew up listening to rap music. At first i couldn't figure out why they laughed. Fellow Indians think I'm an American wanna be but that's not the case. But others have no problem with the way i sound.
Yeah indians get so insecure about their accents that the people trying to learn another or "better" than them makes them extremely jealous. Which results in ✨ kyu fake accent m bolra h 🤡✨ which is laughable.
As an American from central US (neutral American accent) I think he sounds pretty native, but it’s a bit off. Honestly it reminds me of how Amish people talk in English. They’re native but just sound kinda different. Overall I could easily believe he’s some kind of American though

@@nutrilite5376 What do you mean
That's still commendable
I've been watching English tv shows /movies/cartoons and playing English videogames all my life. In fact it's more of a native language, I even think in English. But I still have an Indian accent. If what you said was true, I should be able to have an American accent as well. 🤷🏻♂️. I've moved to Toronto recently, and people have pointed out to me, that I have a thick accent. They can understand me and there are no problems in conversing whatsoever, but I do notice locals here not wanting to hangout with me. I want to get rid of my thick accent as much as possible, I just want to connect with the locals, I am not ashamed of my accent but, I don't love it either.
May I know that you are from which region?
As far as I have noticed, the regions having a thick accent in India are the East and the South as their native languages may or may not contain some sounds of English which when substituted by anything else rasults in those “thick” accents.
@@prysp I'm from Telangana, it's in the south.

So if you want to lose your accent...
You need to first choose which accent you want to sound like. Then compare how they pronounce their letters and how do you pronounce yours, and try to practice the sounds which are not present in your language. A fine example will be the letters V and W, most Indians pronounce them in the same as any Indian language is not having an equivalent for them, so you may start by practicing them. If you choose the American accent, you may need to practice the flap T a bit.
There are some videos on how to do an XYZ accent on UA-cam, you may refer to them. Though many just tell the same thing (i.e. the R and the T), some good ones are also out there which may be helpful. You may refer to them later, but first do the job of making your accent a bit “less” thick.

I have a weird story with me.
I was in my school and was with a friend of mine from a different division. He then called someone from a different classroom and told me to talk to him saying that he knows very good English. When I met the person my friend introduced me to, I thought at first that he was faking an accent (because he looked like an Indian), so I also started faking a British accent, and he gave a sound of satisfaction (I will tell the reason later). I even complimented him on his accent faking skills, and he was like why do I think that he does? 😅
Later I found out that he was an Indian guy who had lived in UK until recently when he moved to India, he also told me that he really liked my accent, while my friend said that he needs to work out on his.
Bruh i think you didn't hear him he said listen and try to mimic them the same way as they do

Whenever people say "Why do you want to "ACT" like you are American: the simple answer is "Survival". Let explain and after you read this you will understand EXACTLY why every single person TRIES to IMPROVE their accent, or a lot of people psychologicaly when are told "you have a thick or foreign accent" feel inferior:
The main issue is deep psychological cultural conditioning: Western pop culture has made the world believe that speaking with an American or English accent equals superiority, and that is due to their economic booms and media portrayal hence "first world countries as opposed to 3rd world countries"
Now here is EXACTLY why you feel that way:
1. As Homo sapiens, our main goal is survival.
2. Survival means getting food, shelter, and protection from danger.
3. To get those things, you need access to resources.
4. The tribe with most "advertised" resources today are generally USA, England or Australia.
5. In order to survive and thrive we must IMITATE the "winning tribe" in order to be ACCEPTED and assimilated into their TRIBE.
6. When you are accepted into the winning tribe you get ACCESS to their RESOURCES. THATS IT
This is why people see Western traits-like accents-as superior. It’s a primitive instinct to imitate the winning tribe for survival and access to their resources.

Hi sir I want to learn american accent from you
How will I connect with you??
It sucks when your parents get salty over their kids trying to learn a new language especially if it’s the spoken language of the land. I mean language is what connects people. Do immigrant parents really expect their kids to not be fluent in the language of the country they live in?! It’s absurd. I’m all for the child learning both languages but the parents shouldn’t shame the child for speaking English in a country where English is the main language. If it wasn’t for my ability to speak English I probably wouldn’t have been able to make friends at school very easily.
Omg similar except my mom tried to very explicitly and implicitly convince me that the language of our culture was better than English or the culture of the land that i grew up in
Thanks!

I cringe when you are the same people that make fun of Americans for not pronouncing indian words or names incorrectly or in "American accent", but refuse to pronounce their language with correct pronounciation for example pronouncing the word Poem like "Poyumm" or using phrases like "revert back" which is equivalent to an American saying Chai Tea or Naan Bread. Ya'll are so hypocrites. English is not an Indian language even the english that we speek today was heavily influenced by the Brits. There would never have been a thing called "Indian English" if we hadn't learn it from the Brits and added our sauce to it. I don't we should be proud of mispronouncing words and calling it english, because then it's basically Creole. But yes it becomes cringe when someone tries to speak their mother tongue like hindi with an English or American accent.
