Hi, I just got one of these in, it’s the model 27 phosphorescent… mine is balanced for the southern hemisphere as I’m in Australia, beautiful piece of equipment, my question is, is it normal for the lanyard loop to have a touch of play in it? Mine wobbles a little side to side. Many thanks
I don't think the sighting lense housing is magnatized. I might be wrong. The old ones had a lever inside that pushed the needle up when the sighting lense was closed. If it were magnatized it would affect the needles magnatizm.
Carl, it may sound crazy, but it is - enough to lock the needle in place, but not enough to affect the operation of the compass when in the up position. Love what you're doing on your channel BTW! Keep up the great work!
@@STOKERMATIC Thanks, I appriciate that, I getting familure with your channel, good stuff. Not trying to be argumentative, however, I have taken one apart and removed the lever myself because it kept getting stuck preventing the needle from moving. In my job I repair and fabricate all sorts of things. my motto is if it's broke, then there's no harm in trying to fix it, after all, it's broke anyway. lol
I love it! Took a broken one apart lol. It’s pressure not magnetic. Cool stuff. Man I have no qualms about being corrected. It’s what makes us sharper. Thanks!
@@STOKERMATIC some folks get their shorts in a twist when they're disagreed with. I'm gflad your not one of them. it's nice to meet you. it's been fun talking.
Tritium has a half-life of approximately 12 years (12.3 = 12.262). The mass of tritium in the compass halves after about 12 years. It will only shine half bright as new.
Really nice overview of the features! Just got one in today. Any recommendations on books or maps to further learn how to use or practice with the compass?

Good info. I have a u.s. military compass issued to me in 1990 for Desert Storm. Back stamped Stocker & Yale 13 Nov1986 on the but also has a july 8 1990 Schreck Chicago sticker on the other backside. Same military hsn ending in 6971. No radiation marks or disposal guide Still works except I have to charge it with light. Do you know if these were all phosphorous or had any tritium in 1986?
Great Review Stokermatic! I purchased a Lensatic compass but it is not a commega but a knock off. I wish I would have bought a H2 for the tritium feature, but for me I don't do night travel so the military knock I have will do. I will say though I'm with you totally about preference of the Lensatic military compass over the base plate compass's. I find the lensatic is way more accurate at shooting a Azimuthe also they feel way more durable. Thanks for your videos I really enjoy following your topics. Cheers from Canada
Paul, thanks for sharing some time in the channel! While I plan on redoing this video my next compass one will be a baseplate. Gotta share some love, lol. But I still love my lensatic!
There is 3 questions a person has when they buy a compass. 1. Where am I ? 2. Where am I going? 3. which direction do I travel? Many of these video's don't answer these questions.

Just getting into navigation and your videos are very helpful, thank you!
So glad to hear!
Mine has a white tab between the magnified L bracket hinge point and compass. I think it pushes up on the needle inside to lock it in place.
Thanks my brother
I got one NOS for $42. But it’s a phosphorus one. First compass figure I’ll just have to buy the correct one next time.

Hi, can you please tell me the shelf life of phosphorus? Thank you!

Pretty crazy isn't it?
Is it containing tritium a health hazard? Can the light sticks be replaced after 10 years?
Cammenga can replace them. Don’t know the $$

I believe that if it isn't labeled as tritium, and if it charges with light, it will be a phosphorous. Thanks for your service!

But I still love my lensatic!
my compass tritium is 26mCi,the lume is almost unseen and yours is 120mCi.Does my low mCi cause my lume not bright like yours?
In short, yes. But all tritium has a shelf life - so unlike phosphorus, at some point, they will all lose their lumination.
I've never understood the Tritium hype... if it's THAT dark, why would you move at all and risk serious injuries?
Mission requirements.
Hi. Where can I purchase original army h3 compass?? Thanks
Check the link in the description.
Why does the sound suck? Has a bad echo.
Got it fixed James - but that’s not to say I haven’t made other mistakes while making content.

True - but a product review isn’t a how to.
@@STOKERMATIC The questions is not a how to? It what I said. The compass should answer the questions.
United States Government Issue issued compass. or the USGIIC
I wonder if TSA would flag this in my luggage with radiation detectors?
I've packed 'em before - both check in and carry on.
Audio Sucks
It did kinda suck. Working on it though.
