I agree. From experience i know freedom. I am now an employee. I am still quite free. There is alot of bs amongst emloyees. I capitalize on the freedom my corporate employer allows and i can see i am not alone by a longshot. Its terrible really how many people have a job but dont know how to appreciate it and capitalize on their freedom

being a business owner is NOT easy in an age of amazon with fierce competition along with risks of being sued, and of course shutdowns thanks to covid 19. every situation is unique and everyone has to make the smartest decision and live with the results. 40% failure rate for small businesses in america. that is really high. i haven't even gotten into shrinkage, employee theft of services (hanging out on their cellphones instead of working for the wage you are paying them), routine wear/tear damage, i can go on. it's realy not that easy nor simple.

I was an entrepreneur, paid a higher tax bracket, ripped off by a medical biller, didn't have a very good CPA, and was actually an independent contractor when I was told I was an associate for a year. There are vultures out in the small business world and working hard doesn't always pay off- mistakes can be expensive.

I would NEVER want the stress and headache (not to mention the 60 or 70 hour work weeks) of owning my own business. I respect Kevin O'leary not just because he is rich, but because he is unapologetic about his success. Right before this I was watching an interview with Ray Dalio where he was stating that capitalism needs to be reformed. How convenient is that for Dalio after he used said capitalism to obtain billions upon billions of dollars of wealth. I value honesty above all else and O'leary is totally right. You should not feel the need to apologize for your success in anything and life, but rather embrace the system that allowed you to get where you are. I am so sick of guilt ridden hypocritical billionaires lecturing the world about how they should live your life. Everyone should have the opportunity to work hard to obtain freedom and I applaud O'leary for speaking that message.

I think the pandemic put into perspective that we are just at the whims of shareholders. Or instead of getting on your knees every day and scraping gum every day, put a sign up and place several recepticles out. The sign says "Ice cream samples free if you deposit gum in the recepticle". Some people just adopt a broken process and never question why its broken - and they use it all their lives like idiots. True, we all start somewhere -- and gum scraping or trash collecting is a noble job if that's what lights you up. I think Kevin's point is about thinking about how short-term compromises can have long-term implications. But there is no one-size fits all. For example, the fictitious characters and storyline from one of my favorite shows, The Office. Jim is stuck and clearly not living up to his potential. But Jim gets what he really wants--that's Pam. He sacrifices his career goals in the short-term to get his dream (girl) in the long-term. I believe there's many ways to get what you want in life.
