"Never pursue entrepreneurship for the greed of money, the whole reason to be an entrepreneur is the pursuit of freedom. That's why you do it."
that's my mantra too
I agree. From experience i know freedom. I am now an employee. I am still quite free. There is alot of bs amongst emloyees. I capitalize on the freedom my corporate employer allows and i can see i am not alone by a longshot. Its terrible really how many people have a job but dont know how to appreciate it and capitalize on their freedom

So the concept of do what you love in moot? Right? like if you love to be a teacher, and your poor its just your fault? No..learn how to invest and use your debt as a asset.
it shouldn’t go unnoticed that the interviewer did a real good job at asking great questions and bringing the best out of Kevin
Thanks Herb!

Kevin's not admitting to himself that the real reason he wants to "thank" former ice cream employer is to show her how far he's come. :D
that would be triggered by that fear of failing he was talking about earlier on the vid...
Sounds like a fake story... Not hard to find out who the owner was
@CarlyKpdx I'm not so cynical, take it at face value. Never spent much time in malls let alone an ice cream shops but I see frequent cleaning of sidewalks in my town from gum dropped in front of college bars as incredibly self centered and unnecessary as that is.
@CarlyKpdx Yeah--I just did actually, not much diff really. Hardly a biohazard it's just a pain in the ass mess.
@CarlyKpdx true tho haha get back to work slave
I'd rather own the store but I'm grateful for those who scrape the floor.
he's not he considers them slaves
I doubt that he wanted to thank her. Knowing kevin he wanted to rub it in.
@Brent J. Cooper oh shut up 🤣
i’ve done both... scraping the floor alone would be easier work
being a business owner is NOT easy in an age of amazon with fierce competition along with risks of being sued, and of course shutdowns thanks to covid 19. every situation is unique and everyone has to make the smartest decision and live with the results. 40% failure rate for small businesses in america. that is really high. i haven't even gotten into shrinkage, employee theft of services (hanging out on their cellphones instead of working for the wage you are paying them), routine wear/tear damage, i can go on. it's realy not that easy nor simple.
“A salary is the drug they give you to forget your dreams”. Amazing quote.

Imagine being an employee at one of Kevin's companies and watch this haha man really said, “there's the people who own the store, and there's the people who scrap sh*t off the floor” 😂 🤣😂 🤣
Healthier Than Yesterday seriously, right?
Talk about a mic drop moment. A lot of people in middle management really think they're somebody, they strut around like they own the place just because they're in charge of a few employees. No no, there are 2 classes - the person who owns the place and the people who work for them. That's it...
Should be motivation and inspiration to move up or start their own gig
Nooo, that's an easy reply. "Actually, Kevin... The two kinds of people are those who own the store and work there, and there's people who hold Bitcoin. How much for me to buy all your stores?"
Well, maybe I admire him for being brutally honest.
Once you start working for yourself, it's hard to go back. I get anxiety every time I do a job interview now just because I can't handle people telling me what to do for shit pay.

Salary is drug not wealth
I also think there is something behind stability of good paying corporate jobs with benefits & healthcare. I was an entrepreneur, paid a higher tax bracket, ripped off by a medical biller, didn't have a very good CPA, and was actually an independent contractor when I was told I was an associate for a year. There are vultures out in the small business world and working hard doesn't always pay off- mistakes can be expensive.
Like Dylan said "sometime in life yo have to learn to serve somebody" I think it is an attitude accomplishment to be able to work for somebody sometime in your life to learn how to take direction from someone else.
Steven Stasczak thanks
At 10:16 he asks the burning question and right when he starts, you can hear Kevin start to breathe harder. It really is a passionate and burning question.
I believe the story @10:39 was by far the most powerful. Experiencing such a extreme change in mindset and realising youve become something that youd never believe you would be.
What is always forgotten in this kind of speeches is - you need a great team. You need a great support and a spouse that will give you freedom to do what you are doing. Somebody needs to raise the kids. But often it is forgotten, behind the successful people are hard working team.
Not if you're single and a mum you are the team!
you don't need no one to give you freedom
he’s tells you how it is which is good but not many can handle that honesty and that’s why they think he’s rude
I like O'Leary, but I am an employee at the VA serving our wonderful vets and I love it! I would NEVER want the stress and headache (not to mention the 60 or 70 hour work weeks) of owning my own business. It just is not worth it to me, and I don't care if my supervisor asks me to do something now and then. It's really not a big deal. But, to each his own. Entrepreneurs are a rare breed to be sure.

I respect Kevin O'leary not just because he is rich, but because he is unapologetic about his success. Right before this I was watching an interview with Ray Dalio where he was stating that capitalism needs to be reformed. How convenient is that for Dalio after he used said capitalism to obtain billions upon billions of dollars of wealth. I value honesty above all else and O'leary is totally right. You should not feel the need to apologize for your success in anything and life, but rather embrace the system that allowed you to get where you are. I am so sick of guilt ridden hypocritical billionaires lecturing the world about how they should live your life. Everyone should have the opportunity to work hard to obtain freedom and I applaud O'leary for speaking that message.
I like a nonsense attitude too Corey but Kevin's ego gets the best of him here IMHO
Thank you so much for your kindness advice, I did really appreciated of you to do so. Love xoxoxo

Cool time to see this interview. I was talking with my friend's brother recently about video games and I told him I would rather work on a little side hustle I just started on involving a chemistry newsletter than play video games. There are two types of people . People who own the store and people who scrape the shit of the floor --Kevin O'leary lol but hey man you start somewhere. sometimes i feel i underestimate what it takes to be successful .
True, we all start somewhere -- and gum scraping or trash collecting is a noble job if that's what lights you up. I think Kevin's point is about thinking about how short-term compromises can have long-term implications. But there is no one-size fits all. For example, the fictitious characters and storyline from one of my favorite shows, The Office. Jim is stuck and clearly not living up to his potential. But Jim gets what he really wants--that's Pam. He sacrifices his career goals in the short-term to get his dream (girl) in the long-term. I believe there's many ways to get what you want in life.
He's saying dont trade your time for money and once you get into that mindset its hard to knock it.
