  • Finally, the often camera-shy Candice Neistat shares it all. Candice is the wife of famed UA-camr Casey Neistat and a force in her own right. In this rare sit down interview I talked with Candice about her jewelry business at Billy! and Finn brands, life with prolific vlogger Casey, being a mom, her best advice for entrepreneurs and much more! If you love the Casey Neistat vlog, you're going to love getting to know the other half of this power couple. Watch it!

      Behind the Brand I've really enjoyed this interview, I've appreciated a lot how you can ease the conversation even on difficult topic such as "vulnerability", showing empathy it's hard because it implicates open ourselves first so 🙌🏻 Really enjoy also the general vibes of the interview settings very chilled, in her office smooth lights (not flashing studio ones) and the tone of the voice just added so much "familiarity" and pleasantness to the all the video. Will love a follow up! Meanwhile subscribed!

    I hate how many people think she relies on Casey for money and fame when it's obvious that's she's not looking for fame and is financially independent, I'm glad this interview showcased that. Candice is an amazing woman

    • @BehindtheBrand
      @BehindtheBrand  7 років тому +66

      Yep, but like all of us I think she struggles with self-esteem at times. That misperception of riding on Casey's coattails causes her to overcompensate, making her more stubborn and aloof. She doesn't need to do that. It also doesn't help that she sees her sister, who is a doctor, as doing more important work than she does. I don't believe our worth should ever be attached to our work. Some people pick up other people's trash. Some people wait tables. Some save lives. Some make jewelry. It's all important if that's what we love to do. I believe who we are is about how we treat others and the little decisions we make every day to try and be a little better.

    • @balahatun
      @balahatun 7 років тому +5

      yes I completely agree with this interpretation of hers. additionally, I think she is giving too much shit to what people think, to an extend that it becomes (or reflects as) not giving a shit. I was hoping her answers to be a bit more elaborate and thought through. there were way too many 'I don't know's, even to some basic/fundamental questions, especially considering her running a creative business, which almost always gets nurtured by statements/understandings/self-discoveries/a life philosophy of self.

    • @msl5131
      @msl5131 7 років тому +7

      I think she mostly felt guarded when I heard her respond that she "didn't know." I doubt she was prepared to answer a lot of these kinds of questions. He went deep!

    • @balahatun
      @balahatun 7 років тому +3

      agree, that shows how much shit she gives actually. giving shit creates filters, too much giving shit creates too many filters, which then leads to over-filtering that takes you only to i-dont-knows, too many of them!. it takes courage to respond questions in life, it takes internal investment and no fear of vulnerability as the host perfectly coined about her at one point in the interview. or at worst, you rehearse a bit out of respect. I doubt if she had no heads up about the content of the interview. I follow this channel for some time now and the theme is quite obvious.

      OK, Thoughts on Candice. Candice is a schmoe with large sums of money. High dollar material bought by her family's capital, partnered with less than "basic b*tch" designs. She has a support group from her extended family and friend's money. She buys her current reality, by buying her friends and their opinions, while buying her outsourced talent. I've meet people with larger sums of money, they are all the same. Her biggest creative asset is probably cassey, lol. And her only true asset is her wealth. She ultimately seems like a nice person, she is only human; but lets get real here, nothing special; A almond latte drinking pocket book. "thanks babe, you rock!" "your shit is so legit, your the hottest" ya, um, Just reality speaking: She is a human with the ability to buy buy buy, and tender her own ego and her surrounded reality, oh, and her own controlled image. I wish the best for her ultimate goals and self growth, but, if you take away her money, her ability to purchase high dollar material, and her networked support group;And then see where she stands. She hates people because people are another source of reality.. , outside of her own, and she loves her own created reality (it's her safe space);she has the ability to buy it, SO, she does. MONEY talks, and she speaks loudest with her money. But, dare to take that money away and see how loud her voice will be, What's that? I hear some squeaking in the corner, maybe we just need to oil the doors hinges.

      To be fair, Candace has always been transparent. If you didn't pick up on who she is its probably because you don't have enough life experience...business owner, mother, wife, etc. She doesn't have time for the spotlight, and it isn't in her comfort zone (a private person) like it is with Casey who loves being out there.

      My pleasure, I wasn't kidding about the Oprah comment. You'll be getting a call from the networks soon, be sure to ignore it and never compromise your brand. Very, very few people conduct interviews well, even top names known for it. It seems to take a blend of intelligence, gravitas and lack of ego few possess.

      Better than Oprah, I would say! 😉
      I truly don't see Oprah at his level. He comes from a real place of purity in his heart. I don't see the same innocence in Oprah, to be quite frank. I would not want her to interview me... if I had the chance to choose between Oprah or him, I would def. go for him. 😊

    What a great interview. I think it was clever how you put the quick fire questions at the start to get the viewer interested and then once we were invited, went into the more traditional interview.
    so great to see this side on Candice. her story is really interesting and I can see why she comes across as she does on the vlogs now.
    interesting at the end what she said about hiring based on the soft skills. Sometimes that's what I like with certain managers. And I'm like, why can't they see all this work I'm doing. I kind of get it now.
    great interview, watched it all 👌

      yeah you can easily see that she is depressed stressed and running on a track to nowhere (happiness, fulfillment)
      when the interviewer was talking about self development or her vulnerability she checked out.
      She doesnt want help this is something she has to figure out on her own. Money does not fulfill you, neither does a husband or kid. You have to work to find your peace

      Thats a really big assumption to make - You cant gather all that from a thirty minute edited interview with no real grasp of what her personality actually is. You can only really make those kinds of calls once you know their personality and how they express them selves.

    Cool interview! First time to see a real impression of the famous Candice on her own turf. Interesting to see a side of Candice that I have never seen before.( I had begun to see her as a woman who is always so cold and disapproving to her partner and started to worry that Casey is stuck in a relationship with a partner who he can never please and who is emotionally unavailable , hyper critical and aloof. Now I see that Candice is just all the time overly tired and stretched too thin as she explains here.
    She comes across here as really smart, strong, upfront and articulate. Thank you for this fascinating portrait.

      Yeah, I also think that Behind the Brand made a cheesy comment. But let's talk about you global.001.
      Now, these following questions may seem sarcastic, but text content is limiting as you cannot use vocal tones to express intention.So please just read and consider them as pure text.
      Don't you think that you may be hypercritical towards mmatih22?
      Have you considered the possibility that you may be projecting your own mindset over her message?
      When I read mmatih22's message, I can clearly see that she is watching Casey's vlog, and felt that maybe he was in a bad relationship (regardless of the fact that they are living together). This is a completely normal thought, since following somebody for a while leads to a feeling of knowing them, and we think about our friends, don't we?

    Her advice at the end is gold. I'm almost 36, and she's right. Kids are scared of work. And by kids, I mean 20-somethings. College grads. Learn how to grind first, and how to deal with different kinds of people from different walks of life. No, college didn't do that for you because you didn't have to serve someone older than your parents, or answer to someone 10 years your junior. You've never had to deal with annoyed customers for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Take Candice's advice about those first jobs. They're not going to kill you, and you'll be more equipped to handle bullshit in the future when you start to learn that the universe doesn't revolve around you and that mommy and daddy won't always be there to be your safety net.
