Hi mate great video. Brought back memories. I grew up in somercotes in the 70s/80s and moved away in 1990. We had a bird avery in our back garden that was made from the old shacks on the plotlands. It was like a ghost town buried in the woods. And cant believe thous upside down houses are still there towards the end the bedrooms were downstairs

Amazed at some of the gaps you can get through. I walk/cycle around most of these areas regularly (half expected to see myself!) and accessibility is terrible for a lot of the routes into the nature reserve. I go along the disused bus lane (Macauley Road) most days and always think those poles should be better spaced!

Sorry for the late treply. My main occupation of sleeping and living with various conditions get in the way!
Luckily, my scooter, NuLegz, is quite narrow and only slighly wider than myself although I forget that it's got a wide arse. If all else fails, I can get off it, fold it, and then manoeuvre it through the gap.
And I agree, those bollards on Macualey Road are really badly planned (like a lot of Basilton, to be fair!) How do people with buggys or traditional mobility devices cope. For crying out loud, I think a bike would have difficulties!

@@cripplecruise7339 Thanks for replying and really interesting to hear about the scooter you use. Entirely agree about the barriers around Basildon - they affect people using mobility devices, but also anyone using a non standard pedal cycle, which are now becoming more common. I and a few others have plans (when we get around to it...) to form a Basildon cycling campaign to highlight the need for better infrastructure for everyone, and opposing discriminatory gates and barriers that stop everyone from being able to get around safely will be part of it.
Keep up the videos - they are enjoyed!
