I got to meet Steve backstage in Atlanta after a show in 2018. I played guitar for a living for over 25 years, and finally got to meet my guitar hero and tell him the speech I've had in my head for over 30 years. Told him how much he influenced me - how he basically taught me to play guitar through his recordings. He almost teared up - hugged me - and thanked me for sharing that with him. He said he was so glad that I didn't get to meet him decades before, because he wouldn't have been sober and fully appreciated it. What a good dude. One of the best nights of my life. The next morning he tweeted back at me - I had that screenshot as my phone background for months! Long live Luke!

What a great man. I’m a bassist but been a fan of his studio work and TOTO for years. Even got his Starlicks lesson VHS (who remember those?😌📼). To hear him admit his downfall and MAKING peace with it and MOVING ON to better himself takes great courage. I admire and respect him ever more for this. I hope to meet him in Philly one day. I’m sure the deaths of Jeff and Mike Porcaro played a part of this. They were like brothers and when you loose special guys like that, it hurts. And a failing marriage on top of that? Oh yeah, that will send any one spiraling, and the pressures of the business doesn’t help either. He was living the life but when shit happens, watch out! I’m just glad he’s still here. God bless you, Steve; and CONTINUE your success.😌🎶👍🏾

Amen. And our need to forgive ourselves is neither the problem nor the solution. Why? Because even the closest follower of Christ has no clue of how great their sin offends the holiness of their Creator. So yes sir, your point is THE POINT. Peace with God comes only by trusting in Christ.

Luke is where so many are. Looking within ourselves will NOT redeem our lives. Luke and all of us went strong in the wrong way and money corrupts. 20 year drug habits can only be cleansed through Jesus Christ. I am speaking about my own life. I pray Luke meets The Risen Savior. He is so close!🙏

Repenting is a big deal. No one is perfect and he was involved in a difficult place. Hendrix was famous for being fucjed up on stage and studio so he isn't alone , lots of rock stars went through it. Just watched a interview with Eric Clapton talking about it. I could have gone down that road of being a rock star, but God (his name is capitalized incidentally) didn't want that for me, He had other plans. Looks like fun on the outside, but ask anyone who went through it if they had it to do over again. Anyway I'm proud of Steve for having the courage to overcome. That's a big part of what were doing here. You can see the remorse written all over him. God bless you man!

I’ve been fortunate to have had about 4 conversations with Steve at various venues like the Baked Potato. He’s always been polite and never given me the bum’s rush like “I’m too important to be talking to you”. He’s signed CDs for me and even taken them to other guys he was playing with like David Garfield to make sure I had something special signed by as many of the artists as possible. Even got to hold onto his guitar as he was busy taking care of something on stage during a club gig. Makes me proud to be the owner of a Music Man Luke 1 with the Floyd Rose trem. He’s just my favorite guitar player. I appreciate his kindness and his sense of humor. Glad to hear things are going well. Love your song Run to Me. Makes me think of my kids and close friends. Losing too many friends as we get older. Gotta give ‘em love while we’re still together. Regrets don’t do any good when they’re gone. Live strong my brother.

I have a music degree, and Steve Lukather has always been an inspiration and hero to me because he has shown how far you can go when you study and practice. You might be born with some aptitude (talent) for music, but you still have to work at it and develop what God has given you. I met him once at a music function (not a concert), I recognized him and approached him. He couldn't have been nicer. It was a thrill to speak with him for a minute. He was so kind.

YAY Steve! Yes!....Being sober is where it's at. I really didn't start living until I stopped drinking. I also finally started knowing how and how to play guitar when I sobered up. I had been playing professionally for 15 years by the time I got sober. It's amazing how much power I had sober. And focus. I also started piling myself into God and Jesus. Man....my life truly opened up. I am blessed. I have been playing guitar for over 50 years and I am still continuing to learn something new on the guitar almost every day. God Bless you Steve.

There is *NOTHING* wrong with "passing judgment"! But you get one thing wrong, as so many of you do: it's the *IDEA* that I'm judging. It's a silly one.

Rockers are like riding on a roller coaster non stop...their life is not normal...once they reach the fame...the speed of the roller coaster goes faster...they have to do everything per say while riding on top of the roller coaster. They have to live ...sleep ...eat...poop...and have a family while the roller coaster is in motion...they cannot stop...the ride gets wilder and ruffer and as years go by they just cannot get out or jump off of it.

I wish Steve peace and happiness. He is remorseful for his wrongdoings, but he must also give himself credit for creating and giving joy through his music. Cut yourself a little slack Steve, the good you have done will live on long after your physical self.... while your transgressions will be buried, forgiven and forgotten.

God loves us even though we mess up! He knows we are going to make mistakes but still loves us and will forgive us. Steve has a very great talent unique to only him. We have all enjoyed listening to him play…oh my! Like he said being a rockstar has its dangers…the temptations can kill you or at least destroy relationships. I am so happy to hear he that he is sober and wants to heal himself and be there for friends and family. I too have experienced some of these things on a much smaller scale, but I have regrets, I have made mistakes and hurt those I love. Moving forward I strive to be the best man I can be. Love others, help people, appreciate what I have. Also I will always enjoy listening to Steve even more now that I know him a little better!

Luke, I have respect for you. Much recognizable!! A lot of willing women, a lot of booze, drugs, a lot of gigs and also lost a lot of people around me including really good friends. This hurts and is a loss for the rest of your life. I am also a guitarist but not famous (and maybe lucky). I thank God I didn't become addicted. I didn't have that pressure and stress around me like a celebrity has. That will play a part. And I'm only 51. Who knows what else I'll experience.

@@chikkipop The Bible is the most studied book in history. One doesn’t need to feel like they’re leaving their brain at the door, being gullible or taking it on blind faith. Textual criticism, archeology and many other fields of study provide a strong case for the reliability of the scriptures and the reality of God.
Forgive me if this is a little long but for clarity sake: The primary message of the Bible is the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is an offer of salvation because all have sinned in His sight and the wages of sin is death but not to those that humbly receive Gods offer of salvation by trusting in Him versus trusting in themselves to be made right in His sight. Trust in the goodness of Jesus not your own goodness. That’s the primary message which takes humility to accept.

      Yes they do!

      No they don't!
*"The primary message of the Bible is the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is an offer of salvation because all have sinned in His sight and the wages of sin is death but not to those that humbly receive Gods offer of salvation"*
And that primary message is so utterly absurd that it's astounding that full grown adults actually believe it! Fortunately there isn't the slightest reason to think it's true. It is amazing what *indoctrination* can do to people, especially if they get you when you're young. Kids will believe anything adults tell them.
*"Trust in the goodness of Jesus not your own goodness. That’s the primary message which takes humility to accept."*
What utterly absurd cult talk that is! It doesn't take humility; it takes extreme gullibility.

      What god?
How would you know what a god opposed?
And how would you know that rejecting an *obvious* ancient myth was because someone was *"proud"?*
I know how you "know" these things; all three of them. It's because that is what you were *TAUGHT.* Now the question is, should we believe everything we're taught?

Sometimes alcohol abuse isn’t so much related to an addiction. In those cases, a person can decide one day just to stop, and never go back from that day without too much difficulty. Trace Adkins has that same story. God bless them all, whatever path it took to become sober.

Many people think that it's a failing of character, but alcohol is such an accepted and ingrained part of our society that it is amazing when people don't fall into alcoholism. Not trying to make an excuse for poor behavior, because ultimately it is up to us to change if it has become an issue, but it is very difficult to arrest an addiction, especially a legal and encouraged one.

You know people like me from the developing countries look towards the west and idolize a lot of people who are the best at what they do, not just in music but also from other walks of life.
I learned to be careful to also see them as human beings who do mistakes throughout their lives.
I also learned that it is the responsibility of the individual that they do not follow a path or do things that are morally wrong because a lot of people especially youngsters will get inspired by that kind of lifestyle.
I am very glad that Steve has realized his mistakes and has fixed his problems I pray for his peace of mind and guidance from God.
There is also a lesson to be learned for those whose "main" objective in life is to fulfill worldly desires, money fame, etc. that even at one point in his life a Superstar like Steve who has achieved so much in his life has realized that he shouldn't have done things that are morally wrong.
