  • Vote ‘YES’ for the D91 School Bond! Growing up in Idaho Falls, I know what it’s like to go to school in this community, and the different school bonds that have been proposed. This certain bond caught me off-guard at first, making me feel like we would unnecessarily increase taxes to our community that is already struggling in this current economy. However, as I dived into the details of the bond, I realized that this bond won’t be a hardship, but rather a blessing for our future generations! In this video, I tour through the current Idaho Falls High school, which is in desperate need of an upgrade. Watch the full video to see why you should vote yes on this bond, or if you’re not from Idaho Falls, why you should be involved in your local community!
    Investing in real estate for the last 10 years, Chandler David Smith currently owns over $25 million worth of rental real estate. He has seen them absolutely crush it when it comes to the investing and sales world. More importantly, he has been able to share his expertise with others and learned invaluable lessons along the way.
    Chandler dives DEEP into all of the ins-and-outs of the Idaho Falls school bond - what would be included in the upgrades, how much it would cost taxpayers, and the rest of the good and the bad! Keep in mind that there are A LOT of unknowns when you take a step into your community and politics - things can get heated, and honestly, anything could happen. But - this is life!

    Dude... Are you sure..? I'm pretty sure you can find a worst school somewhere in Detroit, Chicago, or in Baltimore... Maybe the worst school in Idaho... But trust me... I was born and raised in one of the worst neighborhoods in Los Angeles and our high school there was worse than that school by levels of magnitude... Not degrees...

    I was really looking for something to change my mind. I was shocked the video lacked anything substantial. So the basement is used for storage and bullets have lead?. There’s no question occupancy is high and maintenance is lousy. Instead of spending money on sports stadiums they should fix a few things.

    The school is an absolute shit hole and needs to be replaced. My four years of high school were spent at school going through a six-year renovation and it was a mess. Renovation won’t give you the desired outcome, will take longer and probably end up costing more. Do the right things for a change Idaho Falls!

    I am a Real Estate investor and a High School teacher in Cedar City, UT. When our school tried to pass a 90 million bond a few years ago I was against it. The main reason was due to our district last lack of planning and not letting the community in on where the money was going. Our main high school is similar to Idaho Falls High there being build in the 50-60s and just having add ins after add ins to make it work. I feel like if the District is willing to do their part on the due diligence and break it down to how exactly they plan on using this money, I would agree with you. The value it will add to your community will put way the cost. Also a side note if the community doesn’t pass the bond they city can always just raise the property tax any with out a community vote so they will get the money one way or another. Good luck up there.

      Exactly!---They want the mahogany desks & district office pay increases first! To actually be transparent, and publish the "Spending Priorities" list so you know all the stupid crap large bureaucracies like to waste money on. The last thing they do is spend money on kids or teacher salaries...Why?--because it's an easy sell for bond/tax increases. Seen it too many times.

      Heck, I'm aware of a similar situation in Crown Point, IN...instead of selling the old buildings, they razed the perfectly good buildings to build their "school for the future". What a waste. People were pissed.

      In Idaho the money can only be spent on what is listed in the bond. So unless you want to know exactly how many outlets are put in and what type they’ve let us know how the money will be spent. As for the city raising taxes independently to fund the school that also is not a legal option in Idaho. Here the school district is a separate entity from the city. Also state law only allows for funding for new schools to come from local bonds.

    New school, yes. 110+ million to do it???? No. Per square foot this bond will pay more than a new highschool than in NYC or ANYWHERE in the county. I don’t believe the school district got competitive quotes and someone is getting rich off this bill, and it sure isn’t the students. Per person in district 91 the bond is over $2500 per man woman and child, BEFORE interest!!!!

    Lolz if the nation runs out of diesel there's no way the bond makes a difference anyway. Equally something they failed to mention... IFHS is the local bomb shelter. With Russia flaunting nukes perhaps a bomb shelter is the safest place for the kids? The simple truth of the situation is that the city of Idaho Falls itself isn't capable of housing many more people without a complete rework of its core infrastructure. Sewer is nearly maxed as is. Roads are absolutely bogged down. Our power plants are strained. The Civic Auditorium was built and donated by the LDS church to IFHS. So why is it the possession of the auditorium in the hands of the city. D91 is notorious for screwing the people. And they have been trying to pass bonds since they squandered the first one. Each time it gets more and more elaborate and expensive. Their biggest problem thus far has been that the people here can do math and don't like beggars who misappropriate funds. Case and point that shiny new Astro turf field that they just put in the stadium behind IFHS. Only to then propose that the school not be used for a high school and that they are building a new one with a better stadium...? Seems like all that money would have been better spent on, oh I don't know, maintaining their buildings. I'm kind of surprised how uneducated these guys are in this video. It's the little things like the fleet of Tahoe's for the admins, the astroturf field, the closure of an elementary school housing 400 students for use as an alternative high school housing 150, and the closure of a jr. high school housing 600 or more for a selective academy for less than 300 driving 9th grade into IFHS... I could continue. And I'm sure they have colorful and well versed excuses for all of these habits of theirs. In the end they dug this hole and now want money to fill it so they can climb out. I think they should perhaps put their shovels to work. Until they earn my trust they can't have my money.

      I voted NO for the same reasons. That school looks amazing, I wish I could've gone there! I'm a transplant to the area. Who is responsible for the school not being maintained over the past 70 years? They would love it if WE volunteered to cover for THEIR mismanagement!
      I respect these guy's opinions, but I think that it would be a different story if they kept their same attitude from the video of their "worst tenant ever" situation. They came back to an abused property and weren't happy about having to pay for it. They still did though! The school district doesn't want to take responsibility and wants to pass it on to the elderly of our neighborhoods, the impoverished who bought their homes for $50-70,000 and have had their taxes jacked up to triple what they used to be, and the every level landlords who are trying to get their feet wet by renovating the dilapidated properties in this area. Don't rob from the poor! If these millionaires just volunteered to give to the cause then let them.
      Sorry to say it but they haven't earned the trust that they will do what they promise with the funds so we all shot it down.

    Current Idaho Falls renter and soon to be homeowner in D91. You ultimately will not pay this cost. This will likely be passed on to your Renter. They are also factoring in the hometowns exemption under that $19 a month. Not to mention they are only saying it's that much extra due to the fact that a bond just got paid off. So it's only 19 extra after that. (Unless your a renter then it as well be $50). Not to mention like you said it will raise the value of properties in the area so they can tax you at a high valuation as well. No thanks from me.
    The need is real like it was in D93. But D93 abused the voters and built taj mahal of a school. Thunder Ridge is way overkill. I will not be abused in that same way again. Come to the table with a 50-80 Million dollar bond and I'll vote yes.

    • @terrybusch5088
      @terrybusch5088 Рік тому

      Yes this would be a better approach. I was told by a district representative that they might just do this with the monetary scope and time scope of this project. I asked if they would consider withdrawing this bond and doing it that way and they said no, we feel confident that this bond will pass as it is. SO, see, they are not willing to work on it with the public at all.

    • @Belasko12
      @Belasko12 Рік тому

      They’ve worked with the public on this extensively. They did do the last two times as well. They tried separating out aspects the second time. Now we’re at a point where we need a new high school and a couple new elementary schools and major renovations at skyline. It’s more appropriate to put up a single bond to cover the immediate needs at this time.

  • @terrybusch5088
    @terrybusch5088 Рік тому +5

    I talked personally with this particular principal at one of the district bond meetings for the public. First of all I asked him several economic questions about the bond, how things would be paid for, how increasing interest rates would affect the bond, and what increasing building costs would do to builders that would contract for building under this bond and he didn't know a single thing about what I was talking about. He referred me to superintendent SHank and a female representative who I posed the same questions to and both of them could not answer a single question that I asked. If leading district personnel know nothing about how this bond will really work then who is in control of the 250 million and interest that will get paid. What isn't talked about is the effect of vastly increased property values for 2022 sent out by the county assessor will have on property taxes, how this bond will adversely affect people on fixed incomes, rental property rents(don't think for a second that that dude won't pass on his increased property taxes onto his renters) and businesses that are renting properties. If the district would be more transparent and work with the community to find ways to cut costs then maybe this could be worked out.

At each one they answered your questions as best can be answered without knowing specifics like individual home values, future interest rates, how individual landlords will respond to those things as well as any other economic factors. All of that would require speculation and therefore they can’t answer those specific questions. They have put forward for weeks calculators that help estimate what the impact may be on property owners.
