Amy Mahoney all those channels have similar videos to this. For example “beer expert guesses cheap vs expensive Beer” etc. I guess he’s telling us this so that they don’t look like they’re stealing ideas since the video idea is from the same company anyways
She actually provided very good information about each mattress type. She even mentioned that the synthetic DuPont latex does not need to be as firm as the sample mattress in the comparison. I like that she shared one of the easiest ways to spot a cheap mattress. If it is very light, there isn't much material involved and it won't be a good mattress. Very useful expert analysis.
So well done! I was a mattress buyer for one of the largest furniture retailers in the U.S. for many years, suffer from chronic pain, & am very picky about my mattresses. So many times I hear "experts," they spew nonsense, but this person is very knowledgable & explains in easy-to-understand terms. GREAT video! FYI, each person is unique, but six months ago, I replaced my 2nd memory foam set with a very expensive hand-tied coil spring set (at my huband's urging--he always felt the memory foam was too hot in the summer, which is a valid issue, but one I freely overlooked because both sets we'd owned were so comfortable, otherwise). I regret it! I cannot wait to save up & buy another memory foam! Unfortunately, the set I bought didn't have a swap program, so we're out $4k+--and here I am very knowledgable about mattresses & STILL made an expensive mistake! My take-away: Make sure you purchase from a retailer where you can swap for a different mattress if you're not happy with your selection!
Very important point you make! Also David, have you considered a latex mattress? My wife is also chronic pain, and she loves our adjustable bed + massage base and latex mattress. I do as well. Never go back to memory foam!
I too am a mattress expert, and I felt she did pretty well. On the inner spring mattress with the dark gray latex was more than likely a charcoal layer. Charcoal absorbs odor. Not a bad thing to have in a mattress. Making those sneaky Dutch ovens a little more difficult. Lol.
Graphite talalay latex…costly but at the time the industries more natural extra cooling material infused into the Latex. Either way that mattress with the two talalay latex layers was not a good value. Each layer should have been twice the depth for that price.
As an ex quality control guy for a big brand name mattress factory, I can personally tell you they really don’t give a blank about quality or design specs, it’s a crap shoot to see if your bed would even be a good one. They are about volume and cheapness to the point of cutting corners. Fyi most bed cost about 300$ or less then they sell that to a store that marks it up for $5000 at 0% financing.
Had a feeling the last one was gonna throw her. The nano coils, which are gimmicky, inflate the price. Also, I believe the latex layer is Talalay and the black layer is carbon infused. Talalay is always more expensive than dunlop latex and the carbon infused layer jacks the price as well.. but as a mattress salesman myself, I'd agree with her that mattress A was a better overall product.
The water test was inaccurate. In the memory foam it was placed at the far end and in the second it wasn't. To perform an accurate test, both glasses should be placed same distance apart.
Honestly I just want to know what's a good price point for a mattress? Like are the ones like Casper, Leesa, and whatever actually worth it or is it worth it to spend more for something that doesn't roll up into a box?
so cool and informative i really like it! keep them coming these videos so everybody not only knows how a nice home should look like but also how it should feel
Innerspring mattress (Letter A) is a Winkbed. I also paid $1,599 like this UA-cam channel did for the Winkbed Softer version since wife and I are side sleepers, but it came with 2 pillows and a sheet set as well for the price. My wife and I absolutely love it and we can’t believe it’s only $1,599. It should be way more expensive especially since it’s Made in the USA.

Also after researching non-toxic mattresses and wanting quality yet to stick to a budget, I settled on a futon mattress by White Lotus Home in NY. It's on its way...very excited!! They even let you pay half down and half a few weeks later! Each one is made to order.
I've had my mattress for over 20 years and realised my lack of sleep recently and aching back/shoulders is due to the lack of springs in it now! Its literally sagging and creaks when you breath. I'm saving for a pocket sprung mattress, most of them nowadays come with a 100 day trial period so you can send it back if it's not as comfortable as it looks. This video was kinda helpful, but seriously those prices?! My budget is like £200
Get a Japanese style futon and sleep with the comforting support of the floor, for that kind of price. Also replace it sooner than every 20 years, you absolute clown.
Mattress A in innerspring is a Winkbed. Don't know what the heck that other one is. Latex isn't THAT expensive. Mattress companies like to keep that myth going to explain why they charge so much for it.

By having their priorities straight. Mattresses should be valued higher than a car, we spend 25-40% of our lives in them, not to mention what side effects can come of bad sleep
Expert?, latex has 2 different processing methods 1. talalay where the latex is flash frozen creating air pockets and making the surface feel soft and airy and 2. Dunlop where it is just poured and baked Making it firm and dense.
This video provided very good information in selecting a mattress. I had a bit of a problem in understanding her and had to use subtitles, no one else mentioned it, so it might have been just me.
rm brooklyn agreed. unlike some, I was truly interested and watched it all. I’m currently completely redoing my condo..blown out and rebuilt from concrete up and in. I’ve been looking at adjustable frames and mattresses. Beauty rest has been a top contender... but this, after all that I’ve done (still doing to finish up) is my most important decision. Really loved the video, but would have like to have know brands...and honestly, her preference of all 6. Not that I’d agree, but still...that would have been soooo awesome.
Those with base layers are meant to be spinned every 3 to 4 months. 3 to 4 months holds your head, and next, holds your partner's feet. They're less durable and that's why hotels chose them.
Synthetic mattresses are horrible for your health, regardless of how expensive they are - you are literally spending a third of your life with your body and nose over toxic petroleum based materials. My entire family sleeps on natural wool mattresses we bought on Etsy and it's been transformational!
I prefer the inner coils mattresses. I also like mine with medium firmness with a memory foam pillow top. The coils provide all the support I like while the memory foam pillow top provides a slight cushioning effect, that I love, without me sinking into the bed effect, which I absolutely hate.
I hope you don't spend more money on your car than on your mattress... Most people do and to me that's insanity. Unless you drive for living you spend an hour or two in car daily and eight hours in bed. Plus the effects of your bed on your body are significantly bigger that what your car has. So sad how many people spend hundreds on bed/mattress and thousands on car... And claim mattresses are expensive.
Because Mattress with branded name actually got inflated price tag to go along with it, Like Fashion sunglasses. Many premium products from off-brand tend to have better quality products and values but they are harder to get by on smaller cities. Unlike food which have little profits, they can't easily created premium off-brand and garner profits from it. Hence the quality in food tend to match the prices.
