They check a lot of boxes. I’m very happy with mine after getting rid of the stock mirrors, taking about 2.5” off of the levers and losing the factory headlight assembly. Fuel range still annoys me though bit not enough to spend $400 to get 0.7 gallon more.
I've written to IMS, Clarke, Acerbis, Aqualine, and CamelTank. The responses range from silence to "no" to "we'll think about it." I won't keep my KLX300 unless a 3.2 gallon or bigger option becomes available in a few months.
Back when I had my 09 klx250s, I hit a rock on the stock skid plate which bent and cracked the engine cover on the trail. Replaced the cover and bought a proper skid plate. It is a must.
I get the marketing in the video since RMATV is about the only people selling a lot for this bike. I'd love to see an upgraded brake pedal for this as well as some suspension options available through RM. Unfortunately the Kawi doesn't have quite the aftermarket the Honda has. Someone desperately needs to come up with a fuel tank that is at least 3.5 gallons for this bike. These are very reliable and sound bikes that I'm sure will introduce alot of people to DS riding. I'm sneaking up on 10k mi and plan to put many more on it!
Congrats! That's awesome. These are great little bikes. I was satisfied with the fuel range on the IMS tank, but if you were following any bigger bikes then you'd for sure need a RotoPax or larger aftermarket tank to keep up. - Wes
I just did the rm rides HOP route with excursion soft panniers and a duffle. Keep the weight light and low. No need for rigid panniers on this little bike. Tusk Highland soft panniers better choice for most.
You guys should make some Tusk protection parts for the new updated KLX. F/R disc, linkage, ABS sensor, rear brake reservoir, heel chain, front sprocket. Radiator hoses and some bling parts would be cool too. ☺
The Rally us such a good looking bike! We did a build on the 250 Rally a few years back and really put that bike through the ringer. Without some suspensions upgrades I'm not sure that it would've done any more. We've got our fingers crossed for something a little bigger with a little extra budget toward suspension from Big Red. A lot of those 250 Rally Parts transfer right over to the 300. Hopefully that build helps. Thanks for watching! - Wes ua-cam.com/video/gT72W-ejBVI/v-deo.html
What is the exact handlebar you guys are using for that setup and clamps? Gonna do the exact same thing with stock grips and levers but with the accessory panel and what not
We used the Tusk Big Bar Clamp and Bar Kit with the Tusk Chub bars ( www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/tusk-universal-big-bar-clamp-and-bar-kit-p ). You can also click the first link in the description to see the parts we added to this bike including that big bar kit and the accessory dash panel.
After having 3 of these, and spend thou$ands in aftermarket I realized most of it is waste. I bought a '24 in that good looking gray, Im actually just happy with 99% of the bike itself and really the only $ need to be spent to enjoy it is a $20 13t sprocket, and pulling the air snorkel out. +1hp and added feel of more torque from the gears, spaced apart perfectly the bike is actually quick. For $50 I put a gold MX chain on {looks great with new gold fork tubes} its 1.5lbs lighter and a lot less friction, it adds a little oomph u can feel also. The same pegs in this vid can be found on Amazon for $19, i used to spend $53 on the DRC. I actually like the oem bars, and just rolling them forward put them in a better position than my risers or after market bars....iv never bent the oem bars in a crash. And last but not least, the oem D605 tires are perfect for this bike. They work good offroad if u arent a Noob and actually adjust your psi and sag. Bring a tire guage and bicycle pump, having a very versatile tire on a versatile bike is absolute gold making the bike comfortable everywhere {except mud, and deep sand but these bikes werent intended for that terrain
I'm wishing that I would've gone a little lighter with a rackless setup of the luggage to shave a little weight and keep it closer to the bike on this ride. Otherwise, I am really happy with the bike. It is a fun little ripper! - Wes
Good review upgrade videos are always exciting I grab my popcorn and hit the play button Which exact seat concept seat did you go with? I went with the Empire racing skid plate with the air slots - equal protection, fits great and looks better. About 50 bucks more expensive but well worth it
Basically the same as you. I ended up using the stock clutch cable but it is about a half inch closer to the center of my bars, not butted up to my switch housing, due to the clutch lever hitting the tusk hand guards. Seems to be working just fine.
Thanks for the great product reviews! I went to buy the IMS pegs on Rocky Mountain ATV but they were not on the drop down menu. Called Rocky Mountain ATV, they said they don’t have my that fit. Called IMS and they said they don’t make them for KLX 300. What equivalent did you use for your build?
Hey @markhummel3433 We literally just went through this with IMS. Apparently, they had found that these pegs don't fit perfectly on the new KLX300. They had to remove the newer bikes from the model apps because of this. There isn't many options in the aftermarket for this bike so it was a bummer to lose the IMS apps... but if you ordered this set for the 2014 KLX250S you'd get the same pegs that we ran on this bike in the video. Disclaimer that they don't fit perfectly! lol. Hope this helps. 👍🏼 - Wes
@@rmatvmc Hey Wes, thanks for recommendation, I went ahead and ordered pegs for a 2014 KLX250S, I couldn’t see a problem after installing them, rode them for a day and they were an improvement from stock. I personally felt they do what they need to do and am keeping them on the bike. Appreciate you looking into this. Perfection is an aim, in rare cases attainable :)
Thanks for watching. I'm curious what your definition of 'build' is on a Kawasaki KLX300? I added any part needed to make this work for my type of riding... and it's much improved over the stock bike 😎- Wes
@@rmatvmc Did you build the bike from parts, build a restoration project with original and replacement parts, or tear it down and rebuild it with a lot of custom fabricated (built) or performance parts? Or did you just bolt some some accessories on that came out of a catalog? Guess our definitions are just different. Swapping mirrors and strapping on bags just isn't a build to me. I didn't mean to crap in your comment's section though. That wasn't my intent.
Sound good. No worries and I appreciate the comment. You'll have to check out our Cheap Bike Challenges for more of your definition of a "build" 👍🏼 ua-cam.com/video/a2QKxIyFY90/v-deo.html Cheers! - Wes
True, this isn't the poorest kind of motorcycling that you could do, but this is an inexpensive and capable bike for a relatively small budget. The goal of the build was to set it up and make it work for our type of riding. To do that we ended up adding just over 2k worth of accessories and upgrades with the big one being the IMS Fuel Tank at $400. I'd call that biking on a budget! - Wes
The tusk dsport tires are ok but too damn stiff and the dsport front is garbage!! Constantly washing out so I changed it out and can't even give it away! Come on why does the tire need to have a side wall like a truck tire for sub 300lb bike
Inexpensive and high-quality parts developed and sourced by people that ride, just like you... and no middleman, heck yeah! Everyone wins 🙌 Thanks for watching - Wes
What are the Japanese manufacturers doing? Ask us what we want and need and build it. These bikes are crap. We want an upgrade to the DRZ/XR. A DRZ with an increase to 450cc, fuel injection, alloy frame and 6 speed tranny. Same from Honda. Give us a XR650r with electric start or a WR with the Raptor 700 motor. Not these pathetic pizza delivery bikes. Come on everyone needs to stop pretending these things are ok. They are not.
IF ONLY the tusk logo wasnt larger than Kawasaki TUSK, yall need a blackout series that doesnt have 6" letters A tasteful tag or something small in the corner is ample Till that happens ill keep spending money on basic looking equipment NOT slathered in logos
Thanks for watching and for the feedback. You could check out our latest release of the tan rackless luggage (Tusk Highland and Tusk Excursion). It has smaller branding that's a little more tasteful for those looking for less obvious gear branding. Cheers! www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/tusk-excursion-rackless-luggage-system-p - Wes
Check out all the parts and accessories we added to this bike here: rmatvmc.link/kawasaki-klx300-bike-build
You guys need to convince IMS to make a 3.5 gal tank for the 300. :-) Great vid.
I bought this bike when they were done using it for a demo. Great little bike, and I love all the aftermarket parts!
Congrats! I wondered who scooped it up 🤘🏻 - Wes
IMS really needs to increase the size of the KLX 300 tank to the 3.5 gallon size.
I’d put it on mine.
even 3 gallons would be worth it
biggest failing of this bike
Thank you! Hoping for more KLX300 dual sport content!
I want one so bad. I don't know if I can wait another season.
They look so simple and perfect. Just hassle free fun.
I regret selling my crf250l I’m getting this bike as a Christmas present to my self lol
They check a lot of boxes. I’m very happy with mine after getting rid of the stock mirrors, taking about 2.5” off of the levers and losing the factory headlight assembly. Fuel range still annoys me though bit not enough to spend $400 to get 0.7 gallon more.
c'mon IMS, whip up a 3-4 gallon tank please

I won't keep my KLX300 unless a 3.2 gallon or bigger option becomes available in a few months.
I agree I ride a klx 300 daily I love the little thing but a 4 gallon tank would be great I’m definitely buying one as soon as someone is making them
Absolutely, I need a much bigger tank, I’m constantly filling up
Isn't the stock tank plus a rotopak barically 3.5 gal though. And then you don't have the weight when you don't need it
They just brought out a 3.6 gallon tank for the TW yet we’re still stuck with a 2.7…

That bike with at least 3.5 gallon tank and tubeless tyres would be a great adventure build

Need a bigger tank. I want to do an explorer build on a 300 but I need at least 200 miles from a tank
Would love it if you guys did a build for the 300rally

can u run these legally on the road with the rear fender delete?
Missing a windscreen, that makes a huge difference on the road
You could get a saddle bag with a reserve on the back from tusk. That's modify I will buy.,and cheaper for just 60 miles

do you have a vid on the Baja light install and the mount you used ? Thx Jschreck
Sorry, we do not have an install video on that light. I believe we used a bracket from a KTM 701 to mount this light to the handguards.
@@rmatvmc Thanks for the reply and thanks for the vid ! jss
Is the mount for the pod light for sale or was that a 1 time fabrication?
This was a custom mount that is not for sale but Baja Designs makes these lights easy to mount up.
How did you like this bike vs wr250r?
Make an XR150L Rally next and ride it 1000 miles. Bargain basement ebay parts only. $5k max budget including bike OTD :D
Did you guys put on a longer clutch cable or reroute? Mine seems very short.

Anyone know where to find the side stand footprint extender for this klx? Can’t find it anywhere. Thanks.
So exactly how much of this was sponsored?
100% of it was sponsored by us.
I would jump on a tank larger than IMS.
IMS have 4.7 gal for $511 on their website.
Didnt see that on IMS website. They still with the 2.7 gallons.
The petrol tank is too small.
