With my experience, riding for 34 years, carbureted and efi bikes. The most effective mods for the money is what is most expected. Free'er flowing exhaust and k&n air filter. Best money spent and most power gains with stock internals. Stock getting and tuning are great with such mods. Can gain 10 percent power and torque with just these two mods.
This is a great video. I hope you decide to do more in the series. You make the bike even more appealing with what you’ve done to it. Very tempting. Fun.
I noticed whoever supplied the bike did not pull the foam airfilter and oil it which is part of required predelivery so the mixture will be lean because of that so a revisit after oiling the filter will be required for acurate power measurements
Just a tip, when ever putting stainless steel to stainless steel use never seize especially on exhaust like the baffle screws. It will gall and weld itself together or use a regular steel screw.Almost ruined a new muffler, and had to drill out the screws.
Lots more acceleration ....good video. IMS makes a 2.7 gal tank for the KLX.... about $400. I installed a Twin Air air filter for more air flow, along with the snorkel, EJK and FMF Q4 pipe. The dyno says 25.4hp @8k rpm with 17 ft/lbs of torque at 7.7k rpm. The KLX cam really comes on at 7k rpm thru 8.5k rpm. Dirt Rider did a dyno run on a stock KLX300 with 23hp @ 8.1k rpm and 15.4 ft/lb of torque. Once you are satisfied with the tune, I mounted the EJK under the left side panel which attaches to the tank. If fits very nicely out of the way but easy access with just removing the side panel if needed.
When i put on a EJK for my '18 KLX250, i had already gone the cheap route and put on the O2 sensor bypass from Europe for $16. I figured the EJK would be better....but made almost no difference. The bypass was just a resistor to read the ECU optimal fuel/air ratio and run it richer after putting on an aftermarket pipe
Great video. Coming from a CRF450L, I just got my 2023 KLX300 2 days ago but won't be able to pick it up for a few weeks. But doing/buying the required mods, at least in my mind:(footpegs/handguards/skid plate/different bars) that I have done on other builds. I think I'm going to at least do 1000 miles of break-in before considering what you have done. I've found over the years that the factory engineers have found their sweet-spot that improvements like this are minimal. Want to go to Stage 2 you might as well spend the $$ up-front and get a Beta or Husky or KTM. These bikes are pretty much "there" off the factory floor at a pittance of the price of the Europeans. I am however interested in the snorkel & Exhaust upgrade only. But specific to dropping some weight between the factory can & the aftermarket can. Does anyone know the actual difference in weight other than "feels lighter"? Thanks for the excellent video.
well sort of.. the engineers have their hands tied because of emission regulations. These bikes have to meet the strictest of requirements so they can be sold in California... That's why there is such big gains just be swapping out a muffler, opening up the intake, and dialing it in with a tune....this goes for nearly every bike.
Ur time gains on 0-60 are definitely more on lower end I can tell just by the times compared also 1.30 seconds is huge in racing great video as well, also the back fire is common on delkevic exhaust for first 50 miles or so
I loved your efforts and honest gas tank size opinion and kinked line warning. I just bought the 2024 model and I am not overly impressed in stock set up. I am putting racks on my bike and lowered 1 inch. Next winter I will probable do what you did for more power.
Great video, ty. I read that if you dont do the o2 sensor delete, the ejk doesn't work properly bc the computer adjusts. Be worth the delete, and be a great new video.
Hey man! late to the party as I just bought my 2023 KLX300SM. But as far as where to mount your EJK and still have solid access, I've seen people run it on/near the frame along the right side of the bike, in a gap by the plastics near where your calf would be! I'm sure you already found a good place for it by now though, thanks for the video though, very well put together, especially with your speed averages!
Would have been interesting if you did the runs after each mod. So just exhaust 0-60 then just snorkel 0-60 then exhaust and snorkel 0-60 , ejk and exhaust 0-60 EJK snorkel 0-60. Just so you can see exactly where the power is coming from. I know lots of work but could be interesting.
The drag racing on a street while eyeballing a speedo to stop the watch, with all of the variations in riding technique (clutch slipping or not, high revving each gear or not, different ambient temperatures and humidity) is far from an accurate test. The precise way to test these mods is to put the bike on a dyno, which as you know makes the rider's technique moot. The dyno computer keeps very accurate measurements of HP and Torque vs time. And repeated runs on the same bike (w/ same mods) are very similar. Any Harley rider will swear that his bike is faster after "just removing the mufflers" - but the dyno results invariably disagree - modern 4-stroke bikes rely on a certain amount of back pressure from the exhaust to deliver maximum wide-rpm power. Removing mufflers or running wide-open aftermarket mufflers usually decrease HP / Torque across the entire rpm range except for a small peak in the very high range. Money wasted.

I'm late to this conversation, but I have to say, the KLX300 is not top heavy AT ALL, the handling on it is amazing. Kawasaki is really good at getting the center of gravity lower than their competitors on all their bikes.

That's unburned fuel detonating in the exhaust. It's pretty normal when switching to a high flow exhaust, hence why they ship with spark arrestors. In other words, too rich, not too lean. I'm late to this conversation, but I have to say, the KLX300 is not top heavy AT ALL, the handling on it is amazing. Kawasaki is really good at getting the center of gravity lower than their competitors on all their bikes.
Nice job
It’s a whole second faster with just the stage one mods wonder what it will do with stage two
How is the bike feeling now and do you still have the same EJK settings? I have basically the exact mods and am trying to dial in the EJK settings. Talking to them on the phone they recommended starting with 2, 2, 2, 4.5, 4.5, 5.5 which is working fine but I feel like its not 100%
Are you guys still running the same settings gs? I feel like I'm running a little lean as my header pipe is pretty blue now..
@@401BAM mines doing the same. It glows slightly at night until it warms up and the idle rpm’s go down. Did you find a solution yet?
Did the spark arrestor and baffle come at no extra charge? I didn't get either with mine.
Yeah they came with mine for no extra charge. It was probably a mistake, I would email whoever you bought it from.
What’s the purpose of the EJK? Sorry I’m a noob at this stuff
It tunes the bikes computer to pump more fuel into the engine to compensate for the more air that the kdx snorkel let's in.
I just cut my stock muffler as close to the first bolt as possible its so loud 😂😂
I installed a aftermarket exhaust and kdx snorkel. Went with ejk on my klx 300 2021 same bike but I noticed when I hit the kill switch when the bike is warm it doesn't start up I have to cycle the key on and off for it to start checked the ground check the connection installed the o2 sensor delete it still does this any suggestions?
Mine does the same thing, I don't know why. I haven't seen a fix yet.
@@GoldGuyRides I tried contacting ejk they said they are moving their office and it's a hectic week for them epa Is apparently trying to ban their products once I hear back I'll update ypu I thought it was a lemon I'm also reading that many users who went with power comander have the same problem
@@andrews6651 Yeah I don't know about the ejk. People with the dynojet power commander have the same problem though?
did your ejk say it was for the klx300r?
It just said it was for the klx300.
More fuel is injected when the motor is cold, which is why it is popping because it is running rich when it’s cold
No, it's popping on decel, because of the PAIR, and you can plug it with a marble in the air supply hose.
I’m getting a 1 and 8 led what’s wrong?
Did you have to pay extra for the spark arrester?
No it just came with mine.
It only comes with the 14" muffler, it doesn't fit in any of the other ones.
It's running lean which is why you have the popping on decel.
That's unburned fuel detonating in the exhaust. It's pretty normal when switching to a high flow exhaust, hence why they ship with spark arrestors. In other words, too rich, not too lean. It clears up a bit when the combustion chamber warms up because it's burning more thoroughly. A little pop adds character though.
@@BeanoNoir negative ghost rider. High flowing exhaust will lean you out unless corrected. These bikes run lean from the factory.
i just put this on my 23, bike shuts off as soon as throttle is applied, any ideas on why this would be happening?
My 23 is not liking delkivic exhaust, kxsnorkel knn air filter and 3 holes drilled in airbox w uni air filters so now trying to decide if i need ejk or powercommander
@@MoandSimbaforPeace mine is now working ok I believe it need a bit to adjust. All ibhave is the exhaust inhave read that with a new airbox you may need to tune
So what happens if you only do the snorkel mod
Probably won't do much but you can definitely try it, I don't see why not
Mines a klx 250 a 2006 the shop had it 2 years and I said I give you 2/3k and wow I took my jeep off the road 3 yrs.only put it back was mom got 90+ sick,I put a "pipe on mine" it's better, why are they so slow now, mine would run 97/98 mph when I got it,I still rode thru mountain then rt.58 and ya run 60-85 on it,I can ride 85 mph for hours, gets 60 mpg.. I run hard nobbies, bought about a dozen for 35 each, that place merged w js,now they're more.mine gas carb.no pump
