Hi Guys! I just love spending this season with you! I feel like I'm back in grade school and visiting my neighbor's kitchen every time I watch your videos. You keep me young, and seeing you cook nurtures that child within me. Thank you both for taking me back to yesteryear. Michigan to Georgia seems so far apart, yet I identify with all the same memories as you, I think. Happy Thanksgiving, Kevin and Ralph! :-)
Hi Princess Skate!! Glad you can celebrate autumn with us, even though we are a few miles apart!! I think so many memories, especially connected with food and celebrating, connect with many people and that's a wonderful thing! Wishing you and yours a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving!!
That look's wonderful, When I was a kid my mother made Baked Egg Custard, and she always placed a pan of hot water on the bottom rack, I don't know how I got to 73, and I never made it but as a kid it was my favorite desert, now I have made Creme du Caramel, and Pots du Creme, I'm going to make this, it looks great.
Hi Kitt! I haven't had an egg custard in many years, but it sounds so good! Yes, you would bake those in a water bath so the custard wouldn't get tough when it cooks. I will have to try my hand at pot de creme! I've had it in restaurants but never made it. Hope you give this a try! Thanks for watching!!
I noticed your Corning Ware counter saver to the left of the stove. I use one of those too and they make a great chopping block for those of us who still like our Formica countertops. Mine is also to the left of my stove and in the Country Festive pattern, copyright 1976. Yours may be the Floral Bouquet pattern, but I can't tell for sure. Oh, and the custard looks delicious.
Hi Jonathan! I find that Corning counter saver handy to place hot dishes on, too. I probably use it more for a trivet than a cutting board - it sure comes in handy! Thanks!
Shout out to Ralph on the Minnesota hotdish reference!! 😁😁😁 I was thinking this was going to go into a pie crust as a dessert at first, but it is more of a side dish. Interesting? Really sparks the imagination!! Just noticed the new room divider in the hallway leading to the back door. Nice addition! Take care!!
Hi Greg!! That hotdish shout-out was for you and all the other Minnesotans!! We have this as a side dish and like how it compliments savory and saltier dishes with its soft and silky texture and hint of sweetness and warm spice. Picked up that divider at a sale where they were gutting a 70's era home - couldn't resist!! Thanks and take care!
I started watching and said to myself, “Hey, I have a butternut squash right here!” I started making this right along with your video. I had never heard of this. Thank you so much!
Hi Kev!!! It was a terrific recipe and guess what?! I had almost the whole thing made in my fridge! I did up some butternut squash the other day that we had with pork chops. I put in brown sugar and butter cinnamon and nutmeg and so all I need to add some of the flour and eggs and I basically have this casserole so I’m going to do that with what’s left over I’m just going to have to adjust it to probably only two eggs I cannot wait to try it! Just like you and Ralph I love pumpkin pie so I’m sure this is going to be a hit with me! I love when the squash flavor comes thru! 🥰🥰 Be sure to tell Ralph the resident DJ to tell us what you guys are listening to! I LOVE that you guys are playing the Hi Fi when you cook! I always think of you when I’m listening to Miss Peggy Lee ❤️ stay well and see you again soon! Jeff xoxo
Hi Jeff! You do have this dish ready to go!! A great way to use up that leftover butternut squash! Let me know how it turns out! I'll have to ask Ralph what he had on the record player because I can't remember, but the record playing is non-stop! Peggy Lee was one of the best - was just enjoying her album "Latin ala Lee" the other day! Thanks so much, Jeff!!
Could you use a can of evaporated milk plus the cup of regular milk to make it set up much like a pumpkin pie? This a different choice for a holiday side dish, it's something you don't see very often, I'm sure, but I can see it becoming a permanent choice on most people's tables, because it looks delicious.
Hi Kristopher! Yes, I have given tours but not recently because of COVID restrictions here in Michigan. Hopefully will be able to have some people in next year. Thanks so much for watching!!
@@cavalcadeoffood thing is my 4yr old grandson watches your channel with me and loves it.he says we can make that grandma.he also giggles and says you have a lot of stuff.children say exactly what they're thinking you got to love it.
Hi Elizabeth! Hope you try the recipe! I have given tours of the kitchen in the past, but not this year because of COVID restrictions here in Michigan. Hopefully next year I will be able to again. Thanks for watching!!
Hi Alaa!! The new kitchen studio is great to cook in - and the new camera sure helps!! Hope all is well with you and your family! Miss you very much! Take care and stay strong!!
OMG, you gave me a great idea! I do my mom's butternut squash as a side dish. I should cook it in our Sunbeam deep fryer/ cooker, using the basket insert, and drain the boiled squash. that makes room for the other dishes on our 4 burner stovetop!
Hi Guys. Sounds delicious. I’m going to have to make this for Thanksgiving. I love squash and have been making different recipes in my air fryer. Both sweet and savory. Thanks for another great recipe. You guys take care and stay safe and warm.
Hi Bill! You could certainly use the Splenda brown sugar. The heavy cream would make the custard richer, but it should work. The only thing I'm not sure about is the almond flour, but it's worth a try! Thanks!
Hi Kevin and Ralph....your butternut (and other) squash will be a heckofalot easier to peel if you quarter it first.....a LOT less awkward to hang on to that way.
Hi Heather! Thank you for the great tip!! This is the only squash I really peel - most others I just cut in half, roast and then scoop out. Next time I'm going to try peeling it your way! Have a great Thanksgiving!!
Hi Donna! Ralph appears in a number of videos. He has even done the cooking a few times. Here's one: ua-cam.com/video/ds-BCIaMFE4/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
Another great side for Thanksgiving. Love you guys. Thank you for sharing
Your so welcome, Cindy! Hope you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Sure did, Jane! Saving some for you! Hope all is well - thanks!

Hi Kevin how would you store this dish in the refrigerator or on the counter
Hi Terry! I put this in the fridge after we were done eating and then warmed it up the next day in a low oven for about 15 minutes. Thanks!
I started watching and said to myself, “Hey, I have a butternut squash right here!” I started making this right along with your video. I had never heard of this. Thank you so much!
You're welcome, Anna! Glad you made it!

Hi cunard61! Yes, you could use evaporated milk, but it will be a firmer texture like pie. Hope you give it a try! Thanks!
Yum! Do you ever give tours or your shop? I would love to see it all!
Hi Kristopher! Yes, I have given tours but not recently because of COVID restrictions here in Michigan. Hopefully will be able to have some people in next year. Thanks so much for watching!!

Alaa - glad we can connect virtually!! Always great to hear from you! Sending best wishes your way!
I will try this recipe soon! Do you give tours of your kitchen?
Hi Elizabeth! Hope you try the recipe! I have given tours of the kitchen in the past, but not this year because of COVID restrictions here in Michigan. Hopefully next year I will be able to again. Thanks for watching!!
Nice settings, look at that kitchen!
Ralph is very happy with the new camera!
Hi Alaa!! The new kitchen studio is great to cook in - and the new camera sure helps!! Hope all is well with you and your family! Miss you very much! Take care and stay strong!!
I'm so happy to have found this video! Thanks so much, I'm trying this tomorrow!
Hi Sarah! Glad you found the video - hope you like the recipe!
I wish I could smell that! I bet it smells amazing. Going to give this a go this weekend. Thank you!!
Hi Kestrel! It smells wonderful when it's baking in the oven!! Hope you give it a try!

Hi Longhairbear! That would be a great way to use your Sunbeam cooker and keep a burner free for other things!
Hi Guys. Sounds delicious. I’m going to have to make this for Thanksgiving. I love squash and have been making different recipes in my air fryer. Both sweet and savory. Thanks for another great recipe. You guys take care and stay safe and warm.
Hi Bonnie! Hope you give it a try! This would be great for Thanksgiving! Take care!
A nice maple syrup topping would go great with is dish.
Hi Dirci! Great idea - the maple flavor would go beautifully with this dish! Thanks for watching!
Ooh wow that would taste amazing 😍 hi guys 🙋🏻♀️ I’ve been on a UA-cam break and coming bs k slowly. Hope you’re both well
Hi Angie! So good to hear from you! We are well and we hope you are, too!! Thanks so much!!
Good stuff again! We will try it. Stay well. Ted
Thanks, Ted! Hope you give it a try!
Interesting
Thanks for watching!
Hi there my two food friends!
Hi J L! Thanks for joining us!
Kevin-Do you think this could be made lower carb by using Splenda brown sugar almond flour and heavy cream?
Hi Bill! You could certainly use the Splenda brown sugar. The heavy cream would make the custard richer, but it should work. The only thing I'm not sure about is the almond flour, but it's worth a try! Thanks!

We need to see what Ralph looks like. Thank you
Hi Donna! Ralph appears in a number of videos. He has even done the cooking a few times. Here's one: ua-cam.com/video/ds-BCIaMFE4/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
to transform it into a dessert, you might add a struesel topping???
Great idea, wendyw!! It wouldn't take much more than a streusel topping (or maybe some whipped cream!) to make this a dessert! Thanks so much!
It’s almost like a yams consistency
Hi RugbyFootballer! It has a very light and silky texture - goes nicely with savory foods. Thanks for watching!
I poke a fresh squash and microwave whole. I can't peel with my hands, its easier.
Hi Donna - great idea! Thanks for sharing!
