@@sjimmyspanks Maybe you are different mentally than i am so I can’t converse regarding your opinions as i stated in my opinion however I didn’t generate a list of songs that are lyrical masterpieces i was speaking specifically about this song. I’ve been listening to hip hop since the 80’s so my mindset is unique in that aspect. I obviously am aware of Biggie music factually speaking verbatim every lyric by memory. I love gimme the loot and actually had the tape when it came out and the vinyl but yes this concept specifically is more lyrical in my opinion due the personification of an inanimate object and rapping from that perspective is ingenious from a literary perspective but to have a story behind it and flow. Biggie is a god to me and so is Nas to me.

Your perspective seems unintuitive in my opinion when i clearly stated “One of the greatest” but perhaps your brain can’t fathom another entity having their own opinion when i clearly stated imo which means in my opinion.

Nas said in an interview for a magazine that he wanted to speak to his own people with the song. And he was worried they wouldn't get it. So he made it more obvious what he was talking about. I don't think he meant to call them dumb, just have to remember the education situation in Queensbride projects and not many were literary minds. I think he was worried only hardcore hip hop heads and people with grasps on poetic license; personification, etc. would get it and not the people he was trying to talk to.

It Was Written is my favorite Nas album overall. Yea it was commercial for the time but it had a grime to it and his lyrics was really potent. 2Pac former friend Stretch (RIP) Produced Silent Murder and Take it in blood for Nas. Nas had got dropped off right before Stretch was shot and killed in 1995. Nas talked about that on "A Queens Story" (2012). Stretch was 6'8. He was 2Pac right hand man and after the quad shooting in 1994, 2Pac didn't rock with Stretch anymore. Stretch and Biggie became super close as well. I feel the entire song is a double entendre. He's referencing the gun but the very same story can translate to a street soldier essentially... for example when he says "he's about to fall to pieces, because of his murder career". Many of his bars can go both ways regarding a human living a life with a gun, or the gun itself.

Thing is, 2Pac already recorded Losin It in 1993 with Spice 1, Spice did the same thing with his verse "Shit was talking to me, my gat screamed fire, the bullet told me to shoot that motherfucker he's a liar". I've never really bought that 2Pac was inspired by Nas, he may have been trying to compete with him though.
Interestingly enough though 2Pacs track sounds eerily similar to "Happiness is a Warm Gun" by the Beatles, which pre-dates them all.

Don't get it twisted. this is one of my favorite hip hop songs of all time. I'm not comparing this to the average rap song but the other classics that the boomer is reacting to. I love this song for the lyrics, it's a brilliant concept and an absolute mastery in storytelling. My comment was kind of comparing it to "Dance With the Devil" that the boomer also reacted to. And I thought about y I liked this song more than that. I enjoyed the feel and tone of the DWTD beat a bit more, just my preference. I think Tech told a bigger/more dramatic story but one I don't enjoy as much or go back and listen to as much. More doesn't mean better in this case. It's good that the track isn't overproduced. It's good that Nas made a perfectly executed story and avoided letting it get too complicated or bizarre. My aim wasn't to be critical of the song, just pointing out I could understand if someone likes some other storytelling songs more cuz people got different preferences.

It’s a deep song with incredible levels of skill in production and wordplay. It’s a movie on wax and I always felt a form of therapy To express such horrific occurrences. An outlet of emotional distress. It’s reporting that is so important to be spoken about. What blows my mind is that such a horrific tale can be told in such a eloquent poignant and poetic way. @@letstalkwithpatrickpodcast Thanks for thinking I might have heard the beat from Simon says. You are incorrect, though. I just played it on UA-cam. I like the beat a lot, but I have never heard it before. "Get the fuck up!"

It’s a solid track but it wasn’t an original concept nor Nas’ best work, lyrically. Organized Konfusion’s ‘Stray Bullet’ predates it and is a masterclass in both narrative driven writing and ingenious wordplay.

@@busajjamoses7386 Well, I'm afraid you are always going to be disappointed. My reaction channels is: I listen to a song once that I've never heard before and then I tell you what I thought about it. I'm not a hip hop person. I don't know how this song compares to other Nas songs or to other songs that came out in this time period. And you're absolutely right - I don't give any of the songs the credit they deserve because I don't study them.. I listen to the song and then right there and then I tell you my first impressions. If you want someone who analyzes, critiques, or reviews a song , that's not my channel.
