He is pretty new to the big leagues, so this learning round is to be expected. Lucky for you he seems a fast learner. I think people don't realize 5 star event horses are built, not just born to it. He was pretty sensible throughout the ride, IMHO.

I agree 100%. 👍 For where Lee is and with shoing issues...this was actually an awesome experience and performance! There is no other way to get him more experience with crowds and high pressure than to have him go to this event and do his best. Yes, the shoes are a huge reason why he had issues. I am REALLY glad neither of you got hurt. Many ppl just don't know how elite these courses can get at this level, so that even really able and talented horses are challenged. The fact that Lee did so well really tells us what he is made of. Grin, he just needs more time in the oven so to speak. More experience is going to make him even better. So excited to see him progress with you! 👍👍👍✌️

He did amazing for having lost 1 shoe way back and then the other later on. He is not only a brave horse, but a very intelligent one. He knew he couldn't go further safely. That is a horse I would completely trust. ❤

It's not the wins, it's not the rosettes, it's the way you cope with adversity that makes a true champion . You and Lee are absolute champions and I feel very proud of you and all your horses every time I watch you . You are a wonderful rider and a massive inspiration . Well done on brilliant horsemanship xxxxxxxxxx

Really cool to hear you break down the course. It’s a shame Lee lost his shoes but he really tried his heart out and also kept you both safe. Can’t wait to see you both in your next 5*!

    I 💗 Thoroughbreds!
He knew: "I took us as far as I can go without shoes but we're gonna fall if I dont stop." 🏆Love you, Lee! 💗🍎

Class! Not sure a lot of people would have stuck up for their farrier that way. I could see losing 1 shoe ,but both front at the biggest event of the year is hard to handle I'm sure. Tough sport

He showed his experience in the sense that he knows you, knows himself and knew his limitations. At the end of the day, he made smart choices and kept you both safe.
It's an ode to your partnership and his trust in you that he feels comfortable saying 'no' when it doesn't feel right. It's so important to have that trust in an event horse.

Things happen, even to the best of us.
I think Lee got a great insight to a full 5* course though, and he did his best, and so did you!⭐

What a beautiful run and Lee making the safest choice shows what a wonderful mind he possesses! Tryon was the follow up he needed ! So many good things ahead for him and Elisa.

I can't believe the distraction of those crowds so close to the line! He was a good boy, he sure had a lot to look at. Well done.

I've been eagerly awaiting this video, hoping you'd do a GoPro/commentary about this run. I love how you know your horses & never blame them when things go wrong. I'll bet that in the evening, when the horses are alone in the stable, they talk about how great it is to have you as a rider!

He has great instincts apparently. I wonder if he felt the first shoe loosening at the start? Bless him for refusing to do what he felt uncomfortable with. He kept the both of you safe! I think I remember someone losing a shoe in Carolina? Is throwing a shoe usual? Just asking, I don't know anything except tat it is extremely important that they are well shod.

It happens anytime you run cross country at the upper levels. No one lost a shoe at Carolina that I can remember.

All things considered i reckon it was a great event for him. ok it didn't end as we wanted, but he will have gained so much experience along the way, that will help him cope with the large events better moving forward.

Bell boots and overreach boots are allowed at the upper levels, but shoes and both kinds of boots serve different purposes, so opting for one type of shoe, one type of stud, or a type of overreach boot is based on horse and rider preference and need. Some wear shoes and overreach boots.

@@nicholeopdyke1946 I think they mean a hoof boot, not a bell boot. Hoof boots are still disallowed in most equestrian sport unfortunately.
