Can I just say how much I LOVE the way your first concern is always for the horse. Third refusal, elimination -- no worries, horse gets a pat and reassurance, no questions asked. Sadly, this is not something one can take for granted in the equestrian world. Elisa, any horse that ends up in your stable has absolutely won the lottery!
And regardless of the outcome that was an awesome run. Some of those fences looked absolutely heart-stopping and both you and Lee are awesome athletes for getting as far as you did with both front shoes gone.
@@elizabethl581 I was at #13, the Hollow, and they looked great over A and B. The run out at C was unexpected and I'm not sure what happened (I was not in the driver's seat).
@eml Eventing. Sorry you feel that way. Hindsight is always 20/20. I agree I could pulled up after 22 before the Normandy bank. I got him to a distance that was on the decrease. He gave me a great feeling at the head of the lake. But I didn’t give him the best distance at the Normandy either. He is a horse that has to have grip to jump. And I thought i could help whim with a better distance. I didn’t realize he pulled both fronts until i felt him slide at the end. But I do the best I can and yes I do make mistakes.

I agree 100% with how wonderfully Elisa treats her horses! It is a breath of fresh air to see someone like her who cares more about her horses than winning, who always gives her horses lots of praise and reassurance (and doesn’t punish them when things go wrong), and who is humble enough to admit when she has made a mistake. She is a breath of fresh air, especially after watching riders like Oliver Townend…. I have had a bad taste in my mouth for cross country for a long time bc I’ve seen so many cross country riders who care more about winning than about their horses, who view their horses as machines, who put their horses in dangerous situations and punish them for mistakes that aren’t even their fault. But watching Elisa’s videos gives me hope for the sport. She is truly a horse woman, and I have the utmost respect for her.
@@WallaceEventing I have been watching a LOT of other cross country rider videos over the past 6 months or so. Tbh, as a hunter/jumper rider who has seen SO many cross country riders who treat their horses terribly with no regard for their welfare, I lost so much respect for your sport. Then I ran across your videos…. I have SO much respect for you, for the way you care about your horses’ welfare first, for how positive and encouraging you are to them -quicker with a pat and a kind word than a whip (unlike SO many xc riders I’ve watched), and how you are humble enough to admit when you have made a mistake, instead of blaming every mishap on the horse (which I’ve seen a lot across ALL of the disciplines). You are a true horse woman, and have given me new hope for your sport. I pray that more riders follow your example. Please keep being you! Best of luck to you and all of your lucky horses ❤
I wondered why he seemed so backed off at the beginning and it makes total sense that he wasn't used to those kinds of crowds! But wow, it's amazing what he did with no front shoes! So glad you both came through safely and looking forward to seeing you run again.
All his 4 shoes came off. He had full sets on front and back.They gave him traction. Some times she loses bell boots the protect him from over reaching and get his shoe off in the front. That was a hard ride. Running up and down and jumping is hard on any horse.

Some horses need a lot of padding and shoes, some need none and can be barefoot.
Aw, Lee was so good. He kept you safe. That is such a tough course. He had the common sense to stop at the jumps he knew he couldn't clear without his front shoes. It could have been disastrous if he hadn't simply stopped. I love your attitude through it all. You're so kind to your horses. 🌟💖
I mean, none of us have had that crowd experience for 2+ years! So glad you brought him home safe and sound. And I smiled every time you could hear a young fan cheering - they knew your name and Lee’s💕.
My heart sank when I saw the scorecard yesterday but after seeing this it all makes sense. Two thirds of the way around Kentucky 5star with no fronts! I take a bow to you both. Xxx 🤞 that Lee bounces back next time out xxx

@@kdris12hihi Third refusal was at Fence 22, and there were only 28 fences total. So 3/4 of the way is even better!

It was all very different for him I imagine, it happens even to the best of us🌟
Especially for the fact that he had no front shoes!

Would love to hear a voice over commentary of what is going through your mind during such a tough course like this! You guys did amazing considering the circumstances, everyone safe and sound and good experience for Lee to see those crowds and a 5star for the first time.

Took me awhile to make myself come and watch this video because I was completely crushed for you just watching it happen on the livestream. But I’m glad I did because I’ve never been as inspired by your horsemanship than I have by this helmet cam. To be flooded with adrenaline and disappointment and yet still treat your horse and complete strangers with the upmost kindness and respect despite everything you are feeling is truly remarkable. And completely genuine. Thank you for once again bringing us along for the ride and showing us what it’s all about!
You two did amazing. That many people, tough course, wet grass and no shoes. This horse has a champion heart ❤️

Still an absolutely amazing ride. Some of those options were HARD! Especially with 2 lost shoes.
Not that I ride him but he felt a little off. We all have off days. Its unfortunate that his was at Kentucky, but you handled it like a total pro!!
They had the camera on Tamra almost the entire beginning of your ride. The neighbors here must have thought I was really pissed at my husband the way I was screaming at the camera person. 😂🤣😂 Seeing the course from this side of things gives a new meaning of what an unbelievable sport this is. And what amazing athletes you and Lee really are. How about safe hugs and big rides this time?? ❣️😂🤗🤗

I wish my dysautonomia didn’t ruin my chances at eventing. I can’t do jumpers anymore because any adrenaline makes me pass out, I lost all my stamina due to exercise and heat intolerance, and don’t think I can show anymore due to the heat intolerance (unless it’s a winter show and/or they make medical exceptions to not wear a show coat). Your videos let some of us continue our love of riding, even if we can’t be on a horse for medical reasons
I agree with this fully. And even though I don't deal with what you do, I still relate to this in a way. Many years ago I fell from a same horse twice on two separate days. I was still a very inexperienced rider. Not to point any fingers at the teacher I had or anything, but I was allowed to sit down after both times and watch when the teacher's daughter got on the horse instead. No one said that I should get back in the saddle. Although I did ride again. They gave me a calmer, more experienced horse for the next times. I pat myself in the back for going for it, even though I already felt the sneaking fear at that point. I never got thrown off again, but I couldn't relax like before. Some years after that I got diagnosed with arthritis. That and the old fear combined pretty much brought my riding hobby to a screeching halt once and for all. I still wish I could ride again despite knowing I wouldn't even be able to get in the saddle again without a huge effort and discomfort. But I never stopped loving horses. In fact I love them more than ever. And to continue living my old dream through these videos means a whole lot to me. I imagine myself being more fearless than I am. I can still be near horses in a way. It's one of the many reasons why I play games like Red Dead Redemption 2, which, while isn't a horse game, has horses in it and I honestly care for them like they're real. I'm rambling at this point, but I'm just real thankful to Elisa for posting these videos.
I have it too! I haven’t even been able to ride anymore. Sold my horse. Watching these videos gives me a sense of riding along.
@@DuckkisI am too poor to ride so in addition to videos like this, I also play games like Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2 for the horse experience. Breath of the wild and shadow of the colossus are also great for getting some of that horsey feeling, if you don't have those already.

So many lose patience out of frustration, impatience & crowd pressure -I know & have been there (yrs ago) & it’s so easy to lose ones patience. Just want to thank you for posting the video. For those of us who will never have the opportunity to run the LR3DE it allows us to feel like we are. The number of people all around the course is crazy. The Head of the Lake is VERY intimidating. Tough track,, but well ridden and a great education for Lee.
I’m going to take audio clips of you encouraging Lee, because those are the things -I- need to hear on a rough day. Sorry about Lee’s shoes! So rough after your great result in dressage.

@@smokedoliver1 thank you for replying. I've followed Elisa for 5 or 6 years so I do know that. I don't personally do eventing or shows at all. I have 2 horses for pleasure. I only know what little about eventing from Elisa's videos. Since I do not go to shows/events in person I don't know if she gets more fan attention than others. I can hear all of hers on her videos. 🐎
You were awesome supporting your horse the way you did. One way or another he was struggling and you listened.
I didn't watch kentucky on their website until yesterday, then I went back & watched your helmet cam again. Very cool to see it from both perspectives. You're a hero.

Such an interesting experience to watch it from your point of view riding Lee around that course. I said "he's done", just as he stopped at the last fence, and you pulled him from the race, because you knew something was wrong. Frustrating, because I think you guys would've done well, if his shoes had stayed on. It's really an awesome experience to see it from your point of view, and to watch it like we're riding, and see if the things we pick up on correlate with what's really going on with you guys. Closest I'll ever get to riding at that level with Eventing. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us, and giving us the chance to see what it's like to do what you do. I'm glad that both of you are ok, and able to race another day!!

Lee was amazing considering it was his first 5*, his first exposure to so much atmosphere, crowd etc, and no front shoe from fence 4, then losing the second front later! Very well ridden by you, and well sat through the tough bits. I’m sure it wasn’t the result you’d hoped for, but a great educational round and hopefully it won’t shake Lee’s confidence. Looking forward to seeing you both boss the next 5* together 😊

You are a beautiful soul, it will come with him, he did so well to get that far without the front shoes, weird funny sky wind, and vibes and it was a black moon partial solar eclipse, yesterday, horses are very sensitive to those vibes too and that crowd all so much for him, as always you are such a good competitor and guide to your horses BravO xxx.
Proud of you both. There will be a next time. He reminded me of my grandson at the circus looking at everything scared to death but still wanting to try to go on.
Look at him do all those corners so confidently!! I saw him slide into the duck jump on the livestream- now it makes sense since he lost two front shoes! Definitely seemed like a slide and not a “no”.

Elisa, as an amateur Eventer you have given me so much inspiration and encouragement. From the sidelines, these horses all make it look easy, when we all know it's not, especially without front shoes 🫣 I cannot explain how helpful it is to see your "behind the scenes" footage of you discussing your run, communicating with your horse during the ride, and how you handle the disappointment that is inevitable in this sport. You ride masterfully and I can't wait to see you continue his education. So glad you two are healthy and stayed safe.

I am SO late to this video, so you probably won’t see this comment, but I hope you do…. I come from the hunter/jumper world, so don’t have a lot of knowledge of eventing. However, within the past 6 months or so, I have developed an interest in watching eventing (especially the cross country). I have watched a LOT of videos of a LOT of cross country riders, and some of what I’ve seen has disgusted and appalled me (think the likes of Oliver Townend). However, I have THE greatest respect and admiration for you! I’ve watched many of your videos now, and I absolutely love how your first concern is your horse’s wellbeing. It is SO refreshing to see a cross country rider at your level being so positive and encouraging to your horses, and being humble enough to admit when you have made a mistake. I’ve seen SO many riders (in all disciplines) blame everything that goes wrong on the horse, and punish their horses for mistakes that weren’t even the horse’s fault. I have SO much respect for the fact that, even with the refusals (which you didn’t know at the time were caused by the loss of both front shoes), you patted your horse and reassured him. SO many other riders would have been whipping and yelling and blaming everything on the horse. You are so empathetic and understanding of your horses, care so much about their wellbeing, and are humble enough to admit when you have made a mistake. I have SO much respect for you, and wish there were more riders like you in the horse world. You are a gem, and I hope you see this. So much of what I’ve seen in cross country has left a bad taste in my mouth, but watching your videos has helped restore my faith that there ARE real horsemen and women out there riding cross country. So thank you, and I will be continuing to watch your videos and be a fan! ❤
That was the best thing I've seen on UA-cam all year!! It was a roller-coaster of emotions! O was on the edge of my seat!! I'm so glad that 1) you both made it safe and sound and 2) that you took it all in stride. Next year will be even more amazing for you 2! ❤️

I just love how from the start you could feel him worried about the atmosphere and you never wavered on him. Stayed positive and supportive the whole way through and never stopped fighting. Those jumps scared me! I can't imagine actually tackling them. Good job taking the ride in such a positive way. It is all grist for the mill.

Really well done, I love watching your videos especially with Lee. Just riding along with you it was clear he wasn't as forward as normal. I can't imagine the bravery to go into those big fences when you're horse isn't feeling himself. Such a different atmosphere with all those people and the cheering. I'm glad it ended safely for both of you; sorry it didn't turn out better.
Wow, so much heart from Lee given the crowd and then the shoes. Great job keeping it positive and a forward learning experience despite what must have been understandable disappointment. Learn, Lee, learn. Onwards and upwards for the next time!
