- In this video we will be removing the heater box and a/c air conditioning from a Classic 1967 Firebird Muscle Car.
As part of the restoration of my late brothers 1967 Pontiac Firebird coupe, we remove all factory a/c from the car. While this was my brothers car for over 40 years, it originally came with a inline 6 and 3 speed manual box. Along the way sometime in the late 1980's he put in a Chevy 350 from a mid 1970's passenger car along with a TH350 auto transmission, and it's anyone guest as to where the original motor and trans is today. Sadly.
Thus keeping everything stock isn't the goal for this car, and since the car now is in Arizona having super cold air during the summers is a MUST. So out with the factory a/c system and in with a new aftermarket modern system.
Like number 46. I love the 67 firebird build. My first car was a 67 firebird. 326 4 speed. I later put a 389 in it. It was fast👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hoping to smoke some tires onces my 67 Bird is done :)
Man I like your engineering. Hahaha that damn glove box door didn't have a chance hahaha God bless
That damn glove box door... tape didn't do the trick but a paint stick and clamp sure shut it up! LOL
taking the old system out is smart im not sure what you are going to replace it with but good luck. i don’t know if you had videos out that i missed but good seeing you take care and see you soon
Everyone keeps saying Vintage Air is the way to go, its running about $2000.00 but in Summer in Phoenix Arizona its worth it LOL Engine is at the machine shop getting some love and about to tear into the front suspension.
@@ArrowheadGarage looking forward to seeing that i guess i missed the engine pull
Hey Brian good video, did you make a video of the installation of the vintage air? I have a 1975 firebird I"m trying to restore.
I haven't yet installed the Vintage Air just yet... once I do, I will let you know!
Brian,
Enjoying your Firebird series! I'm an Okie trying to get my wife's 67 Firebird roadworthy as well. If you haven't already considered it, check out front disc brakes. I found a kit on eBay and added front disc brakes and a brake booster. I think it was only about 500 - 600 and it seems to work well. The work would be a cinch with your front end torn down. Keep up the good work and I'm eager to catch your build videos!
I have been kicking around the idea for months now... Let me know how they work out.. might have to go that route with you!
@@ArrowheadGarage The brakes came from a company in NC named Pirate Jack (if I can include names?). I also ordered a couple of rolls of NiCu lines and replumbed all of the brake lines. That was not a fun experience with the car in tact but would have been easier with a wide open engine bay. I also had difficulty sealing leaks at the fittings but I blame my lack of skill and quality tools to make good double flares on the lines. All that said, I'm pleased so far with the results!
I am going to do Vintage air on my Firebird.
So Brian, i know this is an old video from 2 years ago , but do yiu still have the old set up?
Yes I stored it all away for the future?
After removing the heater do I run the hose from the water pump directly to the heads by the firewall?
I would go with Classic Auto Air.
Good job hun
I would be interested in the entire original A/C system... Do you have the complete system and is it not damaged?
I am missing the compressor, the dryer and condenser.. I am thinking be easier to go with a modern a/c system for this ole Bird.
@@ArrowheadGarage What would you be asking for what you have? I assume that you still have the complete inner and outer boxes with cores, harnesses and control panel?
@@ArrowheadGarage Not for sale?
Not even a reply????
John for some reason your replies didn't pop up until I went digging to find them... at this time I am holding onto what I have removed from the car. But when the time comes to sell them, you'll be first on my list to contact sir!
What did you end up doing with the heater box
Going with a Vintage Air AC system when ready.
Love the video. Ditch the music.
Thanks for watching!!
