  • Head rotation occurs at the atlantoaxial joint, where the atlas & axis articulate forming a pivot joint.
    Head rotation is the rotating of the head on its own long axis or twisting to the side, typically around 75 degrees across the transverse plane.
    The agonistic muscle which enables head rotation include the sternocleidomastoid & splenius capitis
