Divine! Proper beer that will outlast all these modern fad concoctions brewed with mars bars, pinecones, old bus tickets etc etc etc

ESB is one the best beers I have ever had in a pub, that is, hand pulled real ale. Wonderful.

Being a fan of english beers, Fullers is one of my favorite UK breweries. I love the ESB and their London Porter. Absolutely tasty and great. And the concept of brewing Vintage Ales is also fantastic. Had 2 versions so far. Great!!!! Cheers from Germany 🍻🙋

So glad to hear it’s still the same! ESB was the first beer I ever had on cask while in Oxford at the Head of the River. I fell in love and started brewing being that I’m from the US and it’s nearly impossible to get cask ale. Fullers appears to have stopped distribution of ESB to most of the US sadly but I think that was before the buyout. Cheers!

Fullers beers are generally excellent, they were the standard that I used to judge other beers of a similar type by. Their London Pride, ESB, London Porter and stouts - amazing, around Christmas IF you can find in a Fullers pub and like a good porter/stout and IF you are lucky you may just find some Fullers Christmas Pudding Ale, I did and did some serious damage to the only barrel supplied to the pub.
In these days of doom & gloom your news that despite the take over of the Griffen Brewery (cost +/- £240m I think) by multinational Ashai the beer remains the same is really great news, just lets hope and pray to Bacchus it stays that way.

I’m surrounded by Fullers pubs here in West London. Never used to appreciate them as not enough craft. Now love visiting for ESB, Darkstar etc. The brewery is bloody brilliant fun btw

I think out of all the mega breweries that buy others out asahi is the best. They seem to buy companies and leave them to it as they are. Asahi super dry is pretty decent itself tbh if you haven't tried it simon 😉

I'm not a very experienced beer taster. The only international beers I've really had was a Belgian beer which I don't even remember the name. I truly don't drink often. I stopped by my local Adult beverage facility and they had an entire area dedicated to discounted beverages due to expiration. I'm not a believer in expiration dates for certain items so I decided to try this beer. It was obviously a bias experiment due to my obvious sir name.
This is by far the best beer I've ever had. The flavor profile is so interesting and that bitterness you referred to was very mild and just added to the whole experience.
    Thank you

Did a tour almost 15 years ars back amazing. Tour and then half pint of each of their beers in the downstairs cellar bar think 5 on tap and then after that a pint of your favourite £10 back then and made up over the price in beer. They had a pub attached to the brewery for after which is now gone I think. But been drinking esb since 2005 remember it being better back then in my youth but havnt had in about a year so may give it another shot. Glad your reviewing more British beers of late.

This was my favorite beer, before they stopped distributing to the US. Now we can only get the London Pride, which is ok but also usually pretty old. Cheers, and I hope to get it on cask someday in the UK.

Asahi showed Japanese way in the brewing world. Aquire top brewery like Fullers and preserve what is the best in it. Craft and tradition.
I know Fullers beers are premium, and a bit more expensive, but you pay only for the quality and great beer experience.
Btw, Simon could you, please, check the Carling Premier Nitro Poured beer? It might be a case like Stella Unfiltered, where usually undrinkable lager gets a second chance to rule the everyday market :)
And Congrats for being in Daily Mail!!

ESB is a beer I will buy regularly really nice. London Pride on the other hand isn't the same beer anymore and not sure why. It's almost like London pride is brewed somewhere else now but don't think it actually is? Other Fullers beers are of the same quality though.

just tried one ...FANTASTIC old style ale
at £1.80 in one of the big supermarkets.
What i have noticed recently is that classic standards like Landlord & Old Empire
have gone from £1.50 to £2.25 in most supers.
Other noteable increase ..in ASDA are
    Harvest Pale £1.50 to £2
    and this is outrageous ....
    Duvel .....£1.70 to £2.75 !

Asahi also owns Pilsner Urquell and they pretty much left them alone and only brew in Pilsen. Asahi is even doing a good job pushing the beer in Japan and promoting the czech pour heavily.

Simon, you reviewed this 2 years ago. Great beer though, especially in cask. I prefer the 1845 though, a stronger bottle conditioned beer, for the same price. Or at least it was in the Waitrose I've just been in. As someone else commented though, the ESB has been relabelled, but the old one (which had had here) is much better..

Agree that this has remained a fantastic beer and often buy a bottle or few. It outshines the majority of 'craft' beers out there.
Over the last year or so I've noticed a dramatic increase in the number of 'craft ale' beers made by beer-making companies rather than breweries. There are also too many variations on a theme with some brands (looking at you BrewDog) having easily more than a dozen options on the shelf at any one time most of which are just variations on a theme.
Ten years ago most breweries would have had less than a handful of main lines with the odd seasonal brew or head brewers choice.
This 'old' beer still outshines the majority of new 'craft' beers. I'd also suggest you revisit Theakston's OP, Shepherd Neame Bishops Finger and Black Sheep Ale as all are still great beers. Would have added Marston's Pedigree if S&N had not 'improved' it. Adnam's Broadside's dropped off too as they seem too focused on Ghost Ship,
    Cheers! 🦆

It's Such a shame ESB has now been changed after my last comment here. I bought a bottle yesterday with the new Fullers ESB label design thinking it was likely just a graphic design change. To test this I compared it with an older ESB bottle I bought maybe a few weeks ago. The new ESB now tastes more like a Marstons beer it was like I was drinking something else. Looks like Fullers is ruining their beers one by one which started with London Pride. I Guess maybe the current economic times they've changed something to reduce costs for them?

Ha! Thanks for the shoutout! But it wasn't this beer that we reviewed via Skype, it was Wells Bombardier (do they still make that?) By the way, I just looked it up and UA-cam nuked that video for some kind of copyright infringement. I just watched the video and there was nothing in it that warranted a strike. WTF. I'm gonna re-upload it today and see what happens!
Mell and I reviewed Fuller's London Pride; that's probably why you thought it was this one we reviewed. I haven't had this one in a long time, either. I didn't know Asahi bought out Fullers; glad to hear the beer is still good. Maybe this is the year I finally fly to the UK and drink my way around the continent. Can I crash with you? ha ha. BTW if you want to do another review online let me know! Message me on Facebook.
