I don't think Nancy gets enough credit and recognition for her backups in this song. While Ann's voice is exceptional, Nancy is hitting those high harmonies behind her. Heart is phenomenal. I feel like the great bands disappeared in the early 90s. They don't have music like this anymore.
I have always preferred Nancys vocal style over Anns. I find them to be somewhat softer, and I think Anns sometimes can be a bit over the top. She is a great singer without a doubt, but Nancy just speaks to me more musically.

@@pokerface8242 Thank you. Teally nice to hear someone agree. I always preferred These dreams over Alone as far as ballads go, and that is because Nancy took lead on that. Wild child from Brigade is one of the best examples of how over the top she can get. When I finally heard the original by Romeos Daughter, the song sounded so much better.
I sometimes think that as well, all the good bands disappeared in the early 90's. I don't know if they did but I do remember grunge being the next big thing back then. And most of my favourite bands changed musical direction as well. Maybe it was a decline in musical quality. I know for certain I began losing interest and wasn't as enamoured by it all.
Lol late 80s beginning of 90s a ton of great bands stood up. To name just a few: Metallica, pearl jam, nirvana, simple minds. Nevertheless I like all 70-80s stuff as well.
Now you should listen to "These Dreams" Nancy is on lead vocals and Ann sings back-up, another masterpiece, and it shows Nancy has an awesome voice too! GREAT REACTION!!!!!!
Nancy is criminally underrated!! Both as a musician and a singer....those high notes in the harmony?!?! Insane!! And Ann's belts are just legendary!!! These ladies are rock godesses!!
You’re right. One of the best singers, _period!_ Of course we were in love with the sisters back in the day but it was impossible to miss that they were kick-ass rockers fronting a very talented band.
Heart is my all-time favorite band, and this is my favorite song of theirs. And yes, I had a crush on Ann Wilson. You're right, the title of "best" has no gender. And they were just as good in concert, no studio or post-production tricks needed.
they sold talent, not sex. the sexual appeal was an afterthought. young women could learn allot from them, if they would just pay attention. if they were just selling sex, they would have no ability to draw a crowd at 70 and would be forgotten about. they arent, they are still touring.
I have a feeling you'll love "These Dreams", "All I Wanna Do (Is Make Love to You)" and "Barracuda". Anne's voice is truly a singular force of nature. She can go from a hurticane, to a soft breeze. She's equal parts sledgehammer and scalpel.
I've been listening this song since its release in 1987. The build up between Ann's singing, Nancy's piano, and the release into the guitars still gives me goosebumps. "Alone" is an awesome song.
It was her rendition of this song that solidified Carrie Underwood's win on American Idol. And the rest is history. One of the most challenging female vocals ever, and Ann does it so effortlessly.
If you want to hear Nancy sing lead check out "These Dreams". As the story goes she had a cold and didn't like the take, even though everyone else did. She tried again when she felt better, they decided to go with the original take. In case you didn't notice Ann doesn't any full on shots in this video. She had gained a lot of weight and the big shots kept her up on the balcony, shot from a distance because she didn't fit the image management wanted.
Ann said in an interview recently that she would leave nothing in reserve while performing and recording. She was particular about “Alone.” It was the best example of commitment to her work. She also enjoyed playing up the Diva side of herself in the song. Two sisters, who are highly respected pro’s for 40 plus yrs. Amazing 👈🤘
Ann Willson's voice is not only legendary, it is simply ICONIC. And yet, this is one of the few songs (especially the acoustic version) where Nancy's backup vocals SHINES to both enhance AND counter Ann's voice. The sisters (Ann and Nancy) simply have the best harmonies in any female led rock group, but the fact that their harmonies are COUNTERS (high/low) pitch perfect is completely amazing.
Two parts of your reaction to this song I absolutely love and knew you would do. The first was when you said that Ann Wilson has one of the best voices (in rock) and not "just the best female voice"; nothing could be truer and it is something I have thought for a long, looooonnnnngggg time. The power of her voice (and Nancy's as well) is incredible and rarely matched by anyone. I could listen to her quite literally all day. I actually had the chance to see her back in June from the third row of a small theatre in Toronto and, at 73, she can still hit those notes and send chills down my spine. The second thing I loved about your reaction and I knew I could count on YOU for this was when Ann hit the note in the middle of the song. Your reaction matched my own and I've listened to the song (and video) what must be hundreds of times now because I love that note (and the whole video) so much. I've been known to replay that one note over and over because I appreciate it so much. Sure it's a small obsession but you can't really blame me as there are far worse things to be obsessed about. The Wison sisters (and their band(s)) are truly treasures in the musical landscape and I simply could not do without them in my life. So grateful!! If you want to hear another female artist with an incredible sonic ability, I direct you to a good Canadian woman named Lee Aaron. You can still with "Hands On" which is a fun rock and roll song with a sonic hit you'll appreciate somewhere in the middle (🤪). Here is the UA-cam page: ua-cam.com/video/4TthIb_QaoM/v-deo.html I appreciate your reactions and always find them fun to watch. Keep up the great work!! ❤❤ Ooooh!!! That last line you gave was completely quotable: "Your favoutie Heart song is the one you heard last." I like that so very much, I hope you don't mind if I use it. I will, of course, always give you credit. TeeHee
I really enjoy your reactions, Aileen, and this was no exception! Heart is truly great and while there is no rush to get to these two songs please put them on your list to get to one day: A live version of "Dog and Butterfly" and their cover of the Led Zeppelin song "Battle of Evermore"! You will never regret reacting to those ones!! Have a great day,
To answer your question, yes, that was Nancy Wilson riding a horse (briefly). Ann & Nancy Wilson have been long-time horse lovers, as they have raised horses and dogs as well. Glad you're loving this band.
As noted earlier the high singing back-up work is done by Anns' sister Nancy. I have always loved watching Nancy literally "Man Handle" her guitar! Such a showman, er, show-woman! In fact, when they introduced "Guitar Hero for girls" back in the day, they used Nancy Wilsons moves as the avatar!
Ann Wilson has an outstanding voice and her sister Nancy, who sings a lot of the harmonies you just did has an outstanding voice herself. Plus shes an amazing acoustic guitar player with a whole lotta sass!!! 💕💕
Somewhat surprisingly, their first #1 hit, "These Dreams," has guitarist Nancy Wilson on lead vocals. A much softer, but still beautiful, voice. And as nice as the studio-version is, my personal favorite is their acoustic version: "These Dreams (Live in Seattle)" from 2002.
The amazing Wilson Sisters at their 80s zenith, they had an MTV period where they had one huge video after another. For a real banger from a few years after this, try Black on Black 2 which harkens back to Barracuda and is a flat out rocker. They could do soft or loud in equal measure, amongst the best. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
I remember this song used to get a LOT of play on the dedication line on the radio, plenty of times from the "secret admirer". Was probably rivaled only by Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx for sheer number of requests. A lot of people don't realize this song is actually a cover of a song by i-Ten, but Heart took it to new heights. Stratospheric
Ann Wilson is amazing! She sings with such power and emotion; it's beautiful. You'd love her cover of "Beware of Darkness." I would highly recommend it. Great reaction, young lady. 👍👍
Great reaction and loved that you checked this out. You should really check out them do this live in Seattle. Acoustic, just her and a guitar. It’s so good! She has such an amazing voice.
Heart is a fascinating band for so many reasons. But one of them is that they have had at least two distinct phases when they were practically two different bands. First they were a classic '70s rock band with some folk and Led Zeppelin influences. Then in the '80s they either chose or were somewhat pressured into becoming more of a big hair / power ballads band with more pop / synth flavored songs. Looking back, we can appreciate their mastery of both types of music. But at the time, the change was a bit divisive. There were tons of Heart fans in the '80s who had no clue about their earlier work. And there were older fans who felt their '80s style wasn't true to who Ann and Nancy were. And the fact that in '90s and '00s they drifted back a bit towards are more stripped-down, non-grandiose style does seem to suggest that their '80s period wasn't totally in sync with their true feelings and art. But their talent makes whatever they do work, no matter what.
Great reaction - thanks for saying about not needing a separate category for female singers, it does bug me when people pretend they are two separate boxes. Other Heart songs I'd suggest would be _Barracuda_ and _These_ _Dreams,_ both excellent. Enjoy!
There are so many great heart songs, and I think this is their best! You mentioned a ballad, so check out "These Dreams". Also, other songs, "Never", "Barracuda", "What About Love", "Magic Man", and "Nothin' At All"
These Dreams - Nancy on lead vocals. Forever the greatest female rockers! In the world of YT Reactors…Nancy never get’s the props she deserves. Nancy is equally amazing; can outplay any male guitarist; equal power-vocalist. You must see them live…check put Crazy on You/These Dreams from their Rock Hall Induction.
Wonderful reaction. Heart puts so much energy into their songs it is like they devote all their heart into every performance. You articulate your feelings and thoughts so magnificently. This is why you are my favorite Reactor. I would love to see your reaction to Elvis Presley's "If I Can Dream". If you have. Reacted to this one i apologize for requesting it, but I have not found it.
I love that you appreciate the talent of these two sisters. They set a bar and stand alone in their legend. Thank you for discovering them and appreciating them.
what most people dont know is that heart didnt originally write this song , they bought it from a studio band, but they DEFINATELY made it theirs , ann wilson's name is ALL over the title of this song ;)
Thanks Aileen, great reaction. I'd really recommend you react to this song but from their 2003 live in Seattle concert. It's stripped back with acoustic backing from Nancy only so really lays bare how good Anne's vocals are.
How do first time watching I think you're a sweetheart dear. Ann Wilson is the best rock singer of all time bar none her voice send shivers up and down my spine. Keep up the good work love watching you a really sweet
The song "These Dreams" has Nancy singing lead and was one of their biggest songs . The song was first offered to Stevie Nicks but she had enough songs already for the album she was recording. Nancy had a bit of a cold when she did the vocals and it added just a tinge of grit to her voice. I always felt more drawn to Nancy since I also play guitar.....although she is much better than me. Ann can also play guitar, and both ladies play piano.
I've been in love with Ann Wilson since I was a little kid, and my older brother introduced me to them. I've never not been in love with her to this day. Her voice alone at times almost stuns my soul. What an amazing woman.
I love how much you enjoyed every single minute of this video. I really like the stage concert setting and the slow parts showing off the venue and themselves.
Heart... Ann & Nancy Wilson! I could listen to their playlist over and over and never get tired of the music! These ladies have been Rockin from day one and are now Legends in the Rock World! Your reaction is awesome and they do take your breath away! Hope you listen to more Heart! Luv ya Aileen ❤️💛
"I've got to remember to breath when I listen to Heart" - Well, here are a few more Heart recommendations to help you with your breathing exercises: "Barracuda" "Magic Man" "Love Alive" "Nada One" "Sing Child" "Heartless" "Without You" (Badfinger cover) "Cry to Me" "Say Hello" "Straight On" "Dog & Butterfly" "Mistral Wind"
This is Heart to the core. Ann's vocals are INSANE and this was their biggest hit on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, where it spent 3 consecutive weeks at #1 in July 1987 and finished the year as the #2 song (only behind the #1 smash, "Walk Like An Egyptian" by the Bangles), but this video pissed the sisters off and here's why. When they saw the finished product, Nancy was completely pissed on how they shot both of them. Ann, who had gained some weight over the years was either shot from far away or just close up. Nancy said that Ann was in so much pain because of the corset they had her strapped in so much that Ann could hardly move and then every shot of Nancy was close up and full body. Nancy said that yes, she could shred the guitar with the best of them, but Ann could not only sing but she as she said "is a fucking star" and needs to be shown like the "fucking star" she is! I'm so glad that Nancy stood up for Ann at a time when too much emphasis was placed on how a recording artist "looked" in a video!
Ann-Freaking-Wilson! I would love for you to also give early Linda Ronstadt some listens! The two greatest rock female voices as far as pure tone and power!
I think this was a kind of a comeback track for them; it had been totally quiet around Heart for a decade or so and then they suddenly burst back on the scene with this song (and the accompanying album). I prefer their early stuff, but have grown to appreciate this over the years
It was the self-titled album before this one - they reinvented themselves as a contemporary commercial rock band, hair and all, and it hit number one and sold 5 million copies. This is from the Bad Animals album two years later. Biggest single, though, absolutely.
I grew up listening to heart. Love love them. She is my favorite female singer. I'm so glad you are listening to what I got to hear when they first come out. Thanks for enjoying them.
Thank you, I love it!!! It just makes my heart happy to see the younger generation appreciate brilliance! The three most drop-dead gorgeous women on the planet are Ann Wilson of heart, Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac, and Amy Lee of Evanescence! Their sheer beauty is only topped by their vocal abilities! You should react to some Evanescence.
A golden set of vocal cords is right...they don't come around all that often and when they do...they're even better when set to the right music. It's when the best comes together to be great...
I grew up in the 70's and listened to Heart, Zeppelin, tull, journey, and so many great Rockers. The golden age of Rock. Nice seeing young people now enjoying this iconic music.
The 80’s perfected the Power Ballad! This is a perfect example of that. The beginning is calm, quiet and melancholy then the power part of the ballad kicks you in the face!
Ann Wilson is a rock goddess. And I can’t help but laugh silently at the band’s antics, so 80s hair metal-ish and rock musicians were so over the top back in those days. And now after a long while of grunge and post punk and nu metal we all started to miss the 80s for real. Variation is the shite.
They have been a part of my life since I was 16 their first album. Best voice ever and the harmonizing just Wow. "The Dog and the Butterfly". One of my favs check it out.
The guy playing his guitar at 5:07, when Nancy, while jamming her own playing struts over and kisses him on the cheek was having a great day to say the least.😊
There are a lot of music judges (Simon Cowell being the most famous) that remind and advise singers what songs and artists to stay clear of, with Anne, Celine and Whitney being the top 3. Carrie Underwood's cover is pretty good but let's be honest, this is Anne's song and always will be. Love the reaction!!
This was the first heart song I ever heard, back in the 80s, and I was hooked, thankfully got to see them in concert months ago, right before they had to cancel the tour..so grateful to have been able to see them, and they were phenomenal live.
hi Aileen, its me again. After writing my comment about your reaction to Neil Young's live performance of Old Man, thought I would check out all your UA-cam reactions. My goodness girl! You done reactions to so many of my favs! Nice. Heart was an amazing sister band. I see you reacted to their cover of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Honors ceremony for them. Good job! Regarding Rush. Like with Neil Young, there's so many of theirs to react to. As a suggestion, check out they're break out song... 2112. Fair warning its long but worth it. And the last song on their last album, Clockwork Angels, The Garden. Look for their live version, "Rush -Clockwork Angels Tour - The Garden". As it turned out for me and to almost all Rush fans, Neil Peart's way of saying goodbye, even though most didnt realized it until Jan 2020. Have a hankie handy. And I see you react to the one and only Stevie Ray Vaughn! He along with other well known artist like Prince and Sting for example, performed covers of Jimi Hendrix's songs on a tribute album titled "Power of Soul" Stevie's is the last song on the album... Little Wing / 3rd Stone from the Sun. Its 12.29 minutes long but like Rush's 2112 the music is so incredible you're left wanting more. So if you do a reaction to it, hold on to you hat! You're in for a ride listening to a guitar God giving homage to his idol. Cheers. Peace, Love & Groovy Tunes

Beautiful reaction to a very beautiful song. I'm really enjoying you Heart ride. Looking forward to seeing more. Thanks
If you want to experience their more folk influenced songs then I heartily recommend ‘Dream of The Archer’.
I love that you appreciate the talent of these two sisters. They set a bar and stand alone in their legend. Thank you for discovering them and appreciating them.
Nancy Wilson was very dreamy rockin out on her guitar
React to These Dreams next, actually get to see Nancy in the forefront. :)
what most people dont know is that heart didnt originally write this song , they bought it from a studio band, but they DEFINATELY made it theirs , ann wilson's name is ALL over the title of this song ;)
Ann Wilson is one of a kind such an incredible versatile singer.
"I've got to remember to breath when I listen to Heart" - Well, here are a few more Heart recommendations to help you with your breathing exercises:
"Barracuda"
"Magic Man"
"Love Alive"
"Nada One"
"Sing Child"
"Heartless"
"Without You" (Badfinger cover)
"Cry to Me"
"Say Hello"
"Straight On"
"Dog & Butterfly"
"Mistral Wind"
Aileen, here's some other female artist I recommend: Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Linda Ronstadt, Pretenders, Fleetwood Mac, Suzy Quatro.
New subscriber here, loving all your reactions and looking forward to more! You Rock!
TOP 10 SONG OF ALL TIME !
‘What about love’ was their comeback single after being absent for so long
One of the best vocalists of all time!
If you really want to hear the sisters harmonize, definitely check out *Straight On.* Real funky and fierce, one of my favourites from Heart ❤️
That song is a masterpiece
I've seen hundreds of bands live and heart is in my top 10, they are incredible
I grew up listening to heart. Love love them. She is my favorite female singer. I'm so glad you are listening to what I got to hear when they first come out. Thanks for enjoying them.
I grew up with Heart's music. They really are fantastic. Hope you react to "Magic Man" at some point. Another favorite of mine from Heart.
Ann and Nancy Wilson, inspired by Led Zeppelin one of the first kick ass female rock bands! Love their passion! Great reaction! ❤
The look of pure joy on your face when she belted out at the beginning of the song is one of the main reasons I watch your reaction channel.
Ann and Nancy are the Queens of Hearts
Thank you, I love it!!! It just makes my heart happy to see the younger generation appreciate brilliance! The three most drop-dead gorgeous women on the planet are Ann Wilson of heart, Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac, and Amy Lee of Evanescence! Their sheer beauty is only topped by their vocal abilities! You should react to some Evanescence.
Your music choices are ever expanding. Thanks for all you do. I really enjoy watching. You have a friend from Chicago
A golden set of vocal cords is right...they don't come around all that often and when they do...they're even better when set to the right music. It's when the best comes together to be great...
Ann is such a powerhouse singer. So Effin' Good! Glad you enjoyed them.
Ann Wilson is a top tier vocalist. Love her. One of the few singers who can give me goosebumps when she does her vocals.
Sweet Aileen, your sumptuous reactions are just as kickass as this band! You're a joy. ❤️🥳🥂
The guy playing his guitar at 5:07, when Nancy, while jamming her own playing struts over and kisses him on the cheek was having a great day to say the least.😊
You were my 2nd favorite reaction personality-now that your doing them everyday-ur my favorite
Yes. Every guy growing up loved and still does love those ladies, and the band. You always have to turn them up high. Even at 63...
Ann and Nancy are rock gods!
I'm so glad you give them more airplay. Ann and Nancy are simply icons of rock, but what they did was not simple.
Nancy Wilson was my 70's/80's Rock crush. Ann does that yell and most songs even better live!
Cheers. Peace, Love & Groovy Tunes
born in 72 and grew up in the 80's I played the shit out of this song, Beautiful sisters at their very best, there is a reason these women were in the rock and roll hall of fame, and very well deserved. Brilliant.
Going off the thumbnail alone, this reaction is gonna be so cute and *heart* warming 😭 I hope everyone appreciates your pun for the title 😭
