Revolver has some Psychedelic songs but you are right Sgt. Peppers and Magical Mystery Tour are more of there Psychedelic albums. Are You Experienced is the album I think about when I think about the Psychedelic era.
All of these lists have such good albums on them. It is hard to argue too strongly. I had to go back and listen to the Traffic album - so good. Thanks, Chris
Good list I'd probably have Anthem of the sun, forever changes ,Easter everywhere, the first Quicksilver album, bathing at Baxter's, the hangman's beautiful daughter, bathing at Baxter's or crown of creation, SF sorrow and I'd sneak in parachute too, that was just off the top of my head but I'm guaranteed to think of another ten that should be in there, the first country Joe and the fish , and Moby grape, just cos their from SF and it rocks, tontos expanding headband,a love supreme, because nobody puts jazz in psych top tens, and if I were to have some mushrooms I'd probably put jazz on or maybe OZ contemporary psych/ atmospheric band Sunset strip,,and Tyrnaround were the best eighties psych revival band, lol
Great video and great list. Your top 10 is very similar to mine. Trying to think of albums that you missed and i cannot. Lol. Maybe Anthem of the Sun and Electric Ladyland. Thanks again for the video.
@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement I'm not a huge Pink Floyd fan. I do have Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and one other. I always found The Wall kind of silly.
Hi Glen!! i think i like your list much better than the other one..... however you really need to add Iron Butterfly. No discussion with your N°1 psych record. cheers and be well
I think I like your top ten as much or more than the magazine's list! There are plenty of great records on their list, even if the definition of psychedelic gets stretched a bit. I love that Spirit record as well. One modern album I'd add is The Black Angels, Directions To See A Ghost.
Hi Glen, I know this is a year old. I haven’t read all the responses…however the Gentleman who said That “Heaven is in your Mind” is only a track from Traffic’s Mr. Fantasy is only partly right. The original U.S. Pressing was Heaven in your mind before it was pulled for the drug connotation. The U.S. & UK versions were named Mr. Fantasy after that though the track selections differ. They are both good but get the US version. The CD version has all the tracks plus bonus tracks! Essential UK Psych! I know you’re hip to Traffic.
I agree with Gris Gris, the acid trip swamp thing of outlaw music. Yeah, and Sgt. Pepper, in my opinion, has never been equaled or topped, so I too would put it at 'the best album of all time.' I also agree with Spirit, great stuff there, and yes, I would also include In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. To my personal top 20, I would add the very first Bowie album (She's Got Medals, etc.), King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King, if we're going to include Hendrix, I could throw in Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs, I guess.
I thought the original list was very interesting..Except for Dr.John not even getting a mention…I need to revisit that Small Faces album..it just never resonated with me.👍❤glen
Good choices. In Search of the Lost Chord is one of my favorites. Before watching the video, I would have bet the farm that Dr. Sardonicus would be in your top 3. 😉 p.s. I consider the Talking Heads Remain in Light as a psychedelic album and a great one at that. p.p.s. the church organist playing In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida on a Simpsons episode is a hilarious tribute to that great tune.
Sardonicus is one of my fav albums of all time..If I was going with favourites, Pepper would have been number one..I tried to think it out a bit differently..
Good choices Glen. When I played Disraeli Gears in my college dorm room, one of my roommates yelled out “turn off that psychedelic crap!” He was wrong. However, you missed my choice for #1 psychedelic album of all time, Forever Changes by Love. Arthur Lee was psychedelia personified!
@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement There's a documentary on Love called Love Story that is really good. It features the original band members and includes Arthur Lee on a tour of locations where the band members lived in LA in the late sixties.
'Heaven is in Your Mind' is the US release title for the 'Mr. Fantasy' album, Glen. The UK release is excellent. It also has a superior sleeve design to the US release. 'Magical Mystery Tour' not an LP in the UK but illustrated EP.
Yes..but MMT has become an official LP in their catalogue. I had nodes Mr Fantasy had a different title in North America..never too old to learn..thank you👍❤
Great video Glen ! Alot of music like Bubble gum and Electronic can be considered psychedelic and you have artists Like Tommy James with Crimson and Clover and Crystal Blue Pursuasion. Of course Iron Butterfly the king of psychedelic. I think almost every rock artist put out something you would call psychedelic. Nobody stands out for me as true psychedelic but maybe Butterfly. Take care.
The first 2 Soft Machine albums are quite high on the list, I wish more people appreciated them... The first Silver Apples album was a very pleasant surprise! I don't understand why The Dark side of the moon is on the list... And of course I agree with you that Piper is the greatest psych album ever!!! I think that Status Quo debut and Brainticket's Cottonwoodhill would deserve a place in the 100!
You being a huge Dylan fan , Kenny Wayne Shepherd 's new cd/dvd trouble is 25 has 2 Dylan covers. Everything is Broken and Ballad of a thin Man...songwriter he has as Robert Dylan not Bob or Robert Zimmerman. I mention it cause dvd is live concert .only Everything is broken in concert dvd ...cd has Ballad of thin man
That top ten Psych albums list is very British. I think Revolver would be the #1 Psych album if it didn't have the wanker Paul songs. Gris Gris didn't make the list because of the British bias. I need that Country Joe and the Fish album. Satanic Majesties Request is a great Psych album. It could have been so much better if they would have included the single Dandelion/We Love You instead of one of the crappy songs that end each side. There are so many smaller bands that had great Psych albums.
I' think donavan should on top 10 very trippy doors about anything is trippy agree on revolver I think of Hendrix as hard rock than phyc I thought in the 80s love my way psychedelic furs was trippy not doubt airplane and album revolver on there iron butterfly too
The American stereo version of the Traffic album is pretty good the British stereo is MUCH better! Pet Sounds wasn't psychedelic at all! MAYBE one or two songs kinda fit. The Zombies album was great! Revolver was great but I would've NEVER put it at number 1 when there's so many more REALLY GREAT psych albums out there! What was psych about Cheap Thrills? It's just a blues record. Oh! Right! American's LOVE fuzzy guitars! WHOOPEE! Yeah, you could get WAY more psych than Satanic Majesties! Have you ever heard the first album by Vibrasonic, or The Dukes Of Stratosphear or The White Noise or, the first 3 Klaatu albums? TSMR SHOULD'VE been stripped down of all the garbage on it and released as a 10" album! Oh, boy! Jerry Garcia helped! YYYYAAAAAWWWWWNNNNN! Good thing he didn't turn it into another country rock album! I've only found 3 or 4 Donovan songs that I'd even consider to be psych. Loved his music but not much psych there. Spirit: great album but only one or two tracks on it are psych. Their later stuff was way more psych than that!
The Move first album called ‘Move’ from 1968.
Revolver has some Psychedelic songs but you are right Sgt. Peppers and Magical Mystery Tour are more of there Psychedelic albums. Are You Experienced is the album I think about when I think about the Psychedelic era.
Your list is far better than theirs. The only thing I would replace is The Moody Blues with “Yeti” by Amon Dull II
Good call on Gris Gris. That's a seriously psychedelic album, and a scary one, too.
Hey Glen, another one that should be on the list, After Bathing At Baxters, Jefferson Airplane!!
Oh yeah !!! Big time..the title was an inside joke for the band referring to doing LSD.
Winds Of Change, Eric Burden and The Animals
Absolutely..love that album…
All of these lists have such good albums on them. It is hard to argue too strongly. I had to go back and listen to the Traffic album - so good. Thanks, Chris
I gotta revisit the Traffic album as well.I have it on CD.now that I know what album it is…lol..
Great video my brother!!
Moby Grape-Wow!
Satanic Majesties Request is awesome ❤

Got to say speaking from one who experienced first hand--you my friend just blew my mind! Your list is spot on !
Wow Steven..thank you..
Piper at the gates of dawn in a true master piece. 13th Floor Elevators, Electric Prunes,
Great video and great list. Your top 10 is very similar to mine. Trying to think of albums that you missed and i cannot. Lol. Maybe Anthem of the Sun and Electric Ladyland.
Thanks again for the video.
Time Has Come Today, certainly.
Now I have a psychedelic buying guide. I'm only missing three, so that's pretty good. I guess I'll have to look for your number one.
You don’t have the Floyd debut!!!
@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement I'm not a huge Pink Floyd fan. I do have Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and one other. I always found The Wall kind of silly.
Right on you nailed it .
Disraeli Gears and Electric Lady land would be in my top ten. I like your list a lot better

I agree Cristian, Iron Butterfly is awesome..

Chambers Brothers don't pop up very often. Fun album. Great list thanks!
Your top 6 is very similar too mine. Great video man. 😊
Gris Gris , good solid voodoo psychedelia
Very surprised you didn’t mention Grateful Dead, any of their first 3 albums could me in the chart, or even Live/Dead, especially Anthem of the Sun!
WOW!! SOME of the stuff on that list! How did that junk get there?? What's next, Roy Clark Drops Acid And Sings Wayne Newton?
In A gada Da vida, love the 15 minute title song! i have that album
Check the 19 min live version out , just as great.

I love psychedelic music, Sgt Pepper’s is my favourite psychedelic album!😃✌️☮️❤️
I like your list much better Glenn.I never heard of the Dr. John but the rest fit right in great stuff
Check out that Dr John album..especially Walk On Gilded Splinters..killer track..
good list you read,id love to find that small faces album and those 2 beatles albums, are awesome, sgt pepper's escpcially!!
I thought the original list was very interesting..Except for Dr.John not even getting a mention…I need to revisit that Small Faces album..it just never resonated with me.👍❤glen
"She Was Like A Bearded Rainbow" is my favorite song on
(the) Cream's Disreali Gears.
Heaven Is In Your Mind is not an official Traffic album. It was the first track on Mr Fantasy.

cool, glen ,i have that Disraelo Gears album. and The Surrealistic Pillow Album.
Disraeli ,i mean

It’s certainly not black and white..But certain artists are labelled as psych.
I have 28 of these. There's a lot of cases where I have a different album by that particular artist, or only a best of.
It’s a pretty solid list, I think..28 plus other albums is a pretty good psych collection James👍
