In the past I have always separated ranking of bands and solo artists..This time I decided to throw them in to one pile and do a ranking of my top 25..I found this to be really challenging and I had a lot of fights with myself while doing this..This is pop rock genre related..I decided to leave off my fav artists from jazz, bluegrass, world music..Stay tuned for that one.

Wesley Schultz, the lead singer of the Lumineers, does a great version of Keep Me In Your Heart.
Small Change is a good one, so is Stevie. I need to get Black and Blue, I love Cherry.
I'm getting more and more into frank zappa music thanks to you glen and Larry , my favorite zappa so far are Hot rats and overnight sensation 👍✌️
Two great albums..
My one buddy from American University was a real Zappa fan, Bob was really into Zappa. He ended up working for the talent agency, which booked the Zappa organization tours. Bob knew Frank on a personal level as a close friend. In the late 80s, probably '89, Bob wanted me to meet Mr Zappa himself. By the time I was able to get to L.A., it was early December 1993, and Gail broke the news... I have Zappa's early 1970s output when "Flo & Eddie" were part of the Zappa Organization, 200 Motels, Fillmore East '71, Chunga's Revenge, Just Another Band From L.A., and The Beatles parody, We're Only In It For The Money, and a live tape from a Zappa show in Bethlehem from 4/27/80. (a gift from Bob)
Wow Joel..that is so cool..too bad about the timing..sad Frank had to go that way at such a young age..
Ohhh a Frank tag. Nicely done Glen.
Yeah!!! 😁😁😁😁
Thanks for participating! Great examples!
Thanks Richard..
I agree on Hot Rats probably being my favorite too, but The Grand Wazoo is close behind. I also agree on the worst Zappa album!!
Two peas in a pod Larry🥰🥰🥰🥰
I've heard around only 10 Zappa albums which means I have probably heard less than 1% of his discography haha.
It is a massive amount of music..haven’t heard it all myself..
So many vinyl tags out there Awesome Zappa Tag. I was late getting into Zappa Awesome video my friend
Thanks Robert..better late than never..
@@GlenKellawayfromthebasement absolutely!
Hi Glen!!! that was a pretty cool list of 50 yrs old music.... to me one of good have to be Rush's "2112", also Zeppelin, Genesis, Thin Lizzy, Sabbath's "Sabotage", Floyd's "Wish....." and Rainbow's "Rising" and the list goes on. cheers and be well
I really like 'Chicken Skin Music', I'm happy to have it on CD! Oh yeah, RUSH 2112!!!
Hi Glen!!! Cool entry to Mike's contest..... Never cared that much about Lou Reed or the Velvet Underground, don't hate but don't know that much Styx. Cool concert experiences and seeing GFR at that early stage must have been great to see. cheers and be well
Some really great CDs! As good as The Wind is, I like Life'll Kill Ya more, such a great album. Flashpoint is really good too, a great live show. Hope you enjoy the music, those Zevon discs will be a real treat.
Thrift store shopping can be fun. The Value Village where I live closed because they couldn't renew the lease. My favorite was the Linda Ronstat, Dolly, and Emmy Lou Harris CD.
That was a really good album..
I like the Dylan book. The thrift stores near me have very small CD and vinyl selections. You are lucky with Value Village and other thrift shops. I have 2 record store that have big amount selections of "pre-owned" music, and their prices are quite good.
He Joel…it is always hit and miss..always have to be looking…that is the fun..
I only recently discovered Emmylou Harris. I was given a massive vinyl collection, and in going through it, I realized that some country and Americana isn't up my alley, but something about her voice and other recordings where magical, I've not collected a good handful of her albums and can't wait to get more.
That is awesome..Her album Wrecking Ball is a favourite..
Hello Mr Glen, I love the Bob Dylan book and great CD finds. Take Care!!
Hello Tommy..thank you
Some nice finds. I love Life'll Kill Ya and it has two of my favorite Zevon songs in "I Was In The House When The House Burned Down" (I've always thought this song was about getting older) and "For My Next Trick". I like about every song and his version of the Stevie Winwood tune is a wonderful cover. I kind of feel the same about The Wind because of the circumstances of when it is recorded. Nice that you got the Dylan book back.
Nice to hear about that Zevon album..Hope I don’t need to many tissues getting through The Wind.
Value Village is truly Boom or Bust. I seldom find anything but then...boom. I found eight cds one time. I figure they had already been picked over, so what might I have missed out on? And it was on seniors day. I paid like $12 for all eight. You need luck.
Timing is everything..
Some great stuff. Steel Wheels tour was great.
Probably the last tour I cared about..
I was looking up that Pickin' On stuff on Spotify... hell, there's a ton of albums, you just keep scrolling and scrolling. They have a tribute to Mule, need to listen to that one, could be fun. Edit: it's hilarious, a harmonica version of Soulshine 😅
It is a fun series..some gems that work really well in that format..
Great haul value village in my town has also been empty the shelves full of movie dvd 😏instead of cd's hope they restock with cd's soon
Fingers crossed..
Good morning Glen and tks for the show. Some pretty good scores there! That Emmy Lou Harris disc sounds interesting, a friend gave me a copy of a live show she did with Mark Knopfler (very tasty)! I don't have much luck in our local thrift store and prefer our used records guy. Like that stones l.p.. Did you ever attend the Bluegrass festivals in Carlisle ontario? Cheers Brian
Yes!!Bluegrass Canada.attended three festivals there 78, 79 and 1980 if I recall. First time I saw and met Bela Fleck when he was playing with Spectrum..I actually worked at the festival that year..Saw so many of the greats..Don Reno, Lester Flatt, Seldom Scene..did you go as well?
@GlenKellawayfromthebasement yes we went two years (can't remember the dates). Saw Seldom Scene, Jimmy Martin and the Smokey Mountain Boys, Good Brothers and more that I can't remember. A bunch of us went and camped out. Certainly eventful weekends and we still talk about some of the fun when our old gang gets together! Most played tunes both years I recall were Orange Blossom Special and Will The Circle Be Unbroken. Also enjoyed Jimmy Martin especially after he'd had a few wobbly pops! Cheers Brian
@@Brian-jv5me so cool..it was definitely a party..Camping there was fun..I got involved in a few jam sessions but don’t remember any of them..too much alcohol..Can’t recall if I saw Jimmy Martin or not..one of the greats..Good times for sure..
@GlenKellawayfromthebasement ua-cam.com/video/ecB2757zxnQ/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
@@Brian-jv5me wow..that was so cool..Wonder if they could bring that festival back..big resurgence in that kind of music..the local bluegrass festivals now are basically Ontario acts..Image having a festival with the big U.S acts..
Awesome finds Glen. I've never found anything at Value Village. Good finds my friend ❤
Vinyl is a joke but CD finds can be pretty good..
Hey Glen! I loved 'Chronicles!' I never have luck at thrift stores. Cheers!
I go a couple times a week..have been quite lucky..
Some interesting finds the bluegrass interpretation album looks interesting.
Yes..there is a whole series of them..
Great haul. You can never go wrong with Warren Zevon. I’ve never read Dylan’s book, but I’m intrigued. Can I borrow your copy?
Sure..come on over..
Thank you an entertaining video,Glen Favorite Sports Teams..Boston Red Sox..Los Angeles Rams( back when Roman Gabriel was the quarterback)/Philadelphia Eagles I've been an Eagles fan since 2014 Concert memories ..so many..I saw Hendrix when he actually lit his guitar on fire Canadian band The Guess Who/Just a endless string of fine songs American Woman /Laughing( ha ha ha ha ha ha ha)/ share the land
Yes, Genesis (love the musicality before they went pop where Phil Collins completely takes over, although there are some pop of later Genesis I like), Jerry Garcia (so brilliant - mostly The Grateful Dead backing him), Warren Zevon (love this record - Hasten Down the Wind, Carmelita, Poor Poor Pitiful Me - he used Jackson Browne's vocal coach, studied with Stravinsky - I love second gen Laurel Canyon), Jackson Browne (maybe filler in there but still where he was at, going through difficult times in life), Joni Mitchell (absolutely love Amelia - it's a tear jerker), Stevie Wonder (so beyond classic musically - very adventurous - makes me feel I have to get closer to it - my ear turns toward the sound because it is so brilliant), Rolling Stones (never tire of Black and Blue for some reason - and the cover, whenever I look up and see bruised skies I think of that gatefold cover - and the outside cover, Keith with his mouth open in profile and Charlie sporting that short haircut, and Bill in the background), Bob Dylan (Desire was probably the second Bob Dylan record I purchased - love Oh, Sister, One More Cup of Coffee, etc. ISIS is the best, what a story). My favorite Tom Waits will always be Closing Time no matter much better he gets. I got the Boston recording, not a bad song on it - total FM airplay and 2112 was the first Rush LP I bought. Side 1 was such a trip. Hotel California was so popular in middle school. The songwriting is really over the top. Victim of Love and The Last Resort were my favorites. Never a true Bowie fan. Like a few hits. Something about his stardom bothers me that I can't shake. I know I'm missing out. I don't like The Police or Talking Heads either. I'm missing out on genius. Of course I have Presence. It's okay with some boring parts, whatever. I have Wings at the Speed of Sound, George Harrison 33 1/3, and Bob Marley Rastaman Vibration. I think I was into Steve Miller Fly Like an Eagle. And I even have Bob Seger Night Moves. I have Heart Dreamboat Annie. I was in love with Magic Man and Crazy On You. I was a sucker for a few FM airplays. I got Lynyrd Skynyrd Gimme Back My Bullets. I went through a Skynyrd, Outlaws phase. If you do the Live LP thing, I have Frampton Comes Alive (doesn't everybody? At least used to), and One From the Road - Lynyrd Skynyrd. Peace Glen, see you later!!!
Thanks Rick..great post..I saw The Outlaws open for The Stones in Buffalo..
Hi Glen!!! Wooow big surprise with your HM band....hope you get too many thumbs down or loose subs too, lol. cheers and be well
Great choices, Glen and well done for beating everyone to the punch.
Thanks..gotta stay ahead of the curve my friend..
@GlenKellawayfromthebasement Keep doing what you're doing. Fabulous channel.
I always knew you were at least a year ahead of your time, Glen. 19 great picks, and then 'Presence,' but you have always loved 'Achilles' Last Stand.'
Achilles makes up for the rest of the album..
BTW, Nelson Mandela was released from prison in 1990 and in 1994 was elected president of South Africa. He passed away in 2013. Great interview, Glen. As a researcher myself, Robert knows his stuff. I bought his book last year and am looking forward to reading it (I'm currently busy with McCartney Legacy). Coincidentally, around the same time I got Robert's book, I stumbled upon Gary US Bonds' autobiography as well, so it's on my reading list too.
Other than genesis,I never heard of these people.
I guess you have some homework..
Excellent review. I don't like bio pics but this Dylan movie has had a lot of great reviews. Looking forward to seeing it some day.
Grisman, Hartford, and, a Billy Strings hat… awesome! Love Desire, however, it’s the only Dylan album I love. I know, unpopular opinion. Songs in the Key of Life was the first record I bought with my own money!
Yeah..Billy is a big Hartford guy..Desire is a great Dylan album to like..
Great list. I was lucky enough to see Tom Waits do the Small Change album at a small bar in Cleveland back then. What's your favorite Ry Cooder album ? Need a recommendation. Keep hearing how good he is on guitar but never really listened to him.
My fav Cooder album is Paradise and Lunch but also Boomers Story, Into The Purple Valley..I saw Tom Waits in a small venue as well in 1978..we were lucky..
Great list! Desire is one of my favorite Dylan albums. I've been a big Strawbs fan forever and I'm glad to see you're getting into them now. Nomadness is a great album, but I believe it came out in 1975. Maybe it came out later in Canada?
Yeah Desire is great..The site I reference shows that Strawbs album released in 1976..but you are probably right..
My favourite era of Genesis was this one. Joan Armatrading's self titled release holds a special place for me. Bob Dylan's Desire is far and away my number one. My favourite Dylan album. Everybody needs a little Scarlet Rivera.
Scarlett was great on that album..
Zappa and Bowie for the win!! 😃
You forgot to add Waits for the trifecta.
Linda Ronstadt also covered Warren Zevon's "Carmelita" and "Mohammed's Radio". She must have really liked that album. 😊
That is correct..who couldn’t like that album..
Do you remember what your favorite album's were 49 years ago, not now but 49 years ago, I'm guessing it would be a different list 😂
You are probably right..I would have mentioned more if I still had them in my collection.
Could be a new topic 👌🤓
@@shanemcivor8319 yes👍
My Top 3 Studio Albums of 1976 3. 2112 by Rush 2. Rising by Rainbow 1. Wired by Jeff Beck
Never heard the Rainbow album but Wired for sure
I was really getting tired of the albums turning 50.... but 49 is okay. Stuff I would add, Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak, Rory Gallagher - Calling Card, Jeff Beck - Wired, Blue Öyster Cult - Agents of Fortune. I know you are not a fan but I would add Aerosmith - Rocks.
Well I agree with all your choices but one..
@GlenKellawayfromthebasement figured so 😁
Great ball busting of Steven Tyler and Lou Reed. Enjoyed that segment. To say the Leafs are due to win it all is an understatement. This could be the year. Toronto will explode in unadulterated joy if it happens. Nice entry Glen!!!
1. Probably my least favourite year of the '70s. 2. Jon Lord's "Sarabande, an album I love from 1976! 3. You said "Tom Waits debut album"... 4. Your #1 is a masterpiece!!!
I did say debut album..seniors moment…let’s just keep it between us…lol..#1 is a masterpiece..
Great list Glen ! I love how you switched up the year 👍 many of these would make my list too! I hope you’re doing well my friend 👍🤘🤘
Thanks Aaron..Happy New Year buddy❤❤❤glen
Hi Glen!!! It always cool when "legacy" artists/bands releases new material, but in same cases it's not necessary at all amd that might be the new Ringo songs or maybe he needs to partner with a better songwriter..... cheers and be well
Saw the Dylan movie over the holidays and really enjoyed it - I think we all know that writers and producers have to skewer timelines and make things more dramatic for movie purposes, but I think they did the perfect amount of mixture and truth.
Totally agree..
I'm beyond happy that you enjoyed the Dylan movie, I am a major fan!
Of me or the movie?
@GlenKellawayfromthebasement leave that one in the air
