Honestly I was super scared to try taking it , I suffered for a long time with really bad anxiety disorder that I have overcome without medication. However this time around I got hit with a set back and I couldn’t snap out of it . I just started taking this medicine and it has helped me so much . I started two weeks at half of 25 ml and then started at 25 for two weeks . I didn’t get any bad side effects. I do want to eat more but I don’t mind . It really has helped me though . My anxiety level is down a lot.

I started taking 50mg for depression/anxiety at a point in my university that was extremely stressful. I took the medication for 4 years and recently stopped. I never had any side effects except for mild nausea about 30 minutes after taking it. I believe the medication was crucial to maintaining wellness in my life at a time when it felt like my coping skills couldn’t help me anymore. Since coming off I dealt with a bit of intrusive depressive thoughts and mild moments of anxiety, but the longer I go off the medication the more these symptoms seem to be less frequent and less intense. I’m very grateful for the insight that I had while taking Zoloft and I hope my story can help someone that is hesitant to start taking medication.

That was a great post. I too took the medication while under intense stress taking care of my ill mother. I wound up with severe panic and anxiety and was put on 100mg tab 1/2 a day. I was on it for many years and decided to take myself off in 2024, but I wanted to make sure I did it very slowly. I was doing very well and taking care of my older sister who broke a bone in her back, until her daughter came to help!?
Unfortunately, her daughter has a knack of beginning arguments and while this is happening, she videos you with her phone and if you should move towards her, she screams DONT TOUCH ME, over and over. I became upset and began yelling back at her and that is all it took for my panic and anxiety to return. I wake up each morning shaking inside and my stomach hard as a knot due to her and her behavior. She then asked me how long I planned on living here which seemed like a threat, especially since I own 1/3 of the house. She has taken over the dining room and living room with her work computers and her blow up bed, which means we are all confined to our bedrooms to eat and live. I am looking forward to her going home someday very soon, I hope!!!

I've had depression my whole adult life but never did anything about it. Neglected myself and my relationships with other people.Things got really bad and im glad i started seeking help. About 4 months ago i started taking Sertraline, 50mg. I slowly worked my way up to 200mg. The biggest positive effect so far is how i dont hate myself anymore. I'm willing to risk a bit of conflict by saying what i want/how i feel instead of burying it inside. There is still a long way to go, but i feel like i finally have the right tools.
As for the side effects mine are pretty similar to yours. Did have a strange good side effect from day 1; a mild euphoric feeling an hour or so after taking the meds that would last a few hours. That lasted for the first 2 weeks or so.

I've been on zoloft for two days. I have been seeing a therapist for 3 months for work/general life anxiety. The therapy was a miracle and I felt like I was in a new chapter in my life. 5 days ago while working out, I had a panic attack where I was convinced I was dying. I wasn't, went to the ER and there was nothing wrong with me. Each day after i suffered less severe panic attacks. I went to my gp, scared that the ER missed something physical. I was assured there was nothing wrong and was prescribed zoloft. I appreciate your video, I know I can deal with these side effects because the alternative of dealing with panic attacks is not worth it. Thank you.

You're right, the comments that people have posted here are so helpful! I'm about a week in on Setraline and was feeling hopeless, as my 'depression' symptoms have gotten worse but after hearing your words & reading from the comments, I'm committed to staying on the medication. The hardest part so far has been the exhaustion. Even after 10 hours of sleep one night, I still overslept for work the following morning and have struggled at work with doing just the most basic tasks. Thank you for sharing your adventures in mental health, I look forward to feeling better!!

Hey Laura, it's a rough few weeks eh? The exhaustion will subside soon, perhaps if no better in another week speak to your GP. Mood and Anxiety can fluctuate as your brain tries to figure out what is going on so try not to worry too much. Get a few plans in place and make time to go for a long walk at the weekend (or even 15 minutes after work). It makes a massive difference!

The leaflet does say that problems will be worse until you adjust to these. This will be anything from 2 to 3 weeks. If you found life tough before, please stay with the plan, it will be worth it once you make it through & can regain control of your mind. One tip is to start on as low dose as possible, but DO NOT panic and take higher mg’s because you think you’re panicking more. These are the symptoms of your mind adjusting for the first weeks. Be strong. Wim Hof breathing and cold showers helped me during those ‘helpless’ moments.

The same happened to me now. I started last Thursday with a half part of the medicine "sertraline". And i stopped today officially. Its not worth it with also going through after-affects of EMDR therapy. It doesn't go well. I feel sick in my stomach, dry mouth, feeling hard down, can't sleep or my sleep rhythym isn't doing well. I just can't and my advice is to stop with the medicine and do not start with it!!

@@nativechique7589 For me the restlessness faded after 2 to 3 months but they were not comfortable months. The drug can cause restless legs and a feeling of agitation internally. They have a name for it, akasthenia. It can become severe enough to stop the drug and I am convinced in some individuials it creates rage and there are connections of murders being tied in my opinion to this inner torment and agitation worsening potentially underlying personality problems also. Doctors can give Xanax and Klonopin to help with this startup anxiety and if the dose of those is high enough, it reduces the start up anxiety greatly. Benzos like Xanax are powerful.

I’ve even lost some of the sense of humour everyone said I used to have. I hope this helps. It’s been two years and I know I need to take steps to truly better myself. Then some feelings of exhaustion, but again minor. Doctor increased my dose to 50mg two days ago, and so far it's going well side effects-wise. So yeah, different people react differently to the medication, so I hope that gives some hope. Also I hope to start feeling the positive effects of the medication soon.

Thank you for sharing. After years of putting it aside and being too proud to ask for help I have been prescribed Sertraline from yesterday. I took one 50mg tablet at 9.30pm and was awoken at 4.30am today with the worst stomach cramps, vomiting, Diarrhea, shakes to the point I called 111 in fear I was having an adverse reaction - it was unbearable. I take pain well generally but this knocked me for six and no-one else’s experiences matched up to what I was experiencing after just one tablet.. I’m not someone who likes taking medication so this straight away put me off (again). I spoke with my doctor who said I must just be more sensitive to it and if I feel up to trying again tomorrow to take half a dose. Although not still throwing up etc, I still have the dull nausea and headache and am still planning to take half a tablet instead tomorrow morning. I am terrified about how I might be effected in the next week or 2 and the side effects to come, also about becoming dependant and withdrawal eventually. I’m sure worrying about this medication is making me feel more ill but I know that we all share the same thought process. I’m a very strong person, but I am scared about this journey more than I care to admit.

My Primary & Psychologist both said it takes time to build up. Like a two weeks or so. I had a breakdown when I picked up the prescription because the side effects on paper were many times worse than what I read online. After some people told me their positive experience I went for it and had my first dose. .50 mg. Within the next 2 hours I have experienced nausea, diarrhea and at this very moment I feel numb which to others comes off as worse depression than what I took this for and this is just day one and instantly. I already hate it.
