I tried the demo and the UI was a little bit too messy for me. I assume that you are behind this game? Someone should look at the UI overhaul before release :)
@@HarmlessTeddy Hi, thanks for taking the time! Even though it's come along way since my first horrid attempts, I am definitely no expert (this is my first game and I'm solo developing, actually). I am currently spending some time on re-thinking it with some experts ;)
@@RecOgMission i have your game in wishlist, really cool concept so I really hope it will be great. Just a little bit of feedback from demo :) Good luck!
Thank you so much for mentioning my game Roman Triumph... As a solo student dev it means so much :)). Fyi you can expect a demo very soon in the next Steam Festival!
A lot of these city-building games are being developed and released these days. Whilst this gives players variety and keeps the genre alive, I feel that most of these projects are just cash-grabbing projects flooding the market with half-baked games that get boring very fast due to lack of content not to mention bugs and poorly developed mechanics. I look forward to Manor Lords though because I feel the developers are genuinely trying to give us something great.
Yep absolutely this! I looked through this list and I counted 7 of the titles (possibly more that are well disguised) that are coming from PlayWay or one of PlayWay's subsidiaries/sister companies. I've noticed an increasing trend by PlayWay to create new offshoot publishers to hide the kickback of being affiliated with PlayWay. Their business model of gathering wishlists on games that are not actually in development is bad for the industry and bad for us as consumers. They also throw out terrible games in the hope that one sticks like House Flipper but one game doesn't make it good for gamers. It's a shame and it's overloading the genre with trash games.
To be honest: I appreciate the work Orbital Potatoe has put into this video. Being a huge fan of automation games and city or base building games i am always looking for upcoming content. BUT what I don't really need is an almost complete list of upcoming games with all of them being "recommended" and "lot's of fun" or "definitly having to keep an eye on". As you said: A whole bunch of them are half-baked and just fund-raising - and lastest in the middle of the video I felt like watching the longest advertisment on YT I've ever seen. So I personally would recommend either some kind of "my top five upcoming games" or a full list with more differentiated view on the single games. Videos like this one are in no way a help to decide which game to buy and which one better not. Just my 2 cents.
As a long-time fan of this genre, what a time to be alive! From your list I'm really excited about Laysara, such a gorgeous and unique take, hope it lives up to its hype. One you should keep an eye out for is Nivalis, which takes place in the incredible Cloudpunk universe -- there's no release date or anything to see yet, but I'm hoping it'll be really immersive and atmospheric as the original game is. Super appreciate the effort you put into the list, thank you so much!
Thank you for your time and effort in putting together so many great upcoming city builders as well as the bonus games which have been released this year. But you may have missed some games such as "Post-Apo Builder", "Colonize", etc. Please go and take a look at them. :)
I love city builders. I'm currently playing Settlement Survival and I'm soooo very hook on it. I'm surprised you didn't add this in the Bonus section at least, it has been released in October 2022.
Hey Orbital Potato! Great list and your presentation and narration is fantastic. Newly found you and loving it so far. A video recommendation that I would love to see you do is a list of automation type games (ie. Factorio-esque). Another suggestion that would work for me personally is also making some more content that isn't ~1 hour in length. Just some shorter videos that are easier to digest while focusing on other tasks. Love your stuff anyway so keep up the good work :D
Really helpful video, being a city builder nut this has opened my eyes to the games that fell through the cracks, Sweet Transit is an amazing game and deserves to be here as much of it is about growing your city to level up and increase infrastructure. Cybertown, although not my favourite genre, seems like it is breaking the mold, I've had enough of post apocolypse now thanks!
So many games here that are practically Ages of Empire. That game is so old, no idea how any of these game developers will be successful compared to so many really good ones available.
Very nice list and wow... You spent a lot of time on this. A little gripe though... Most of the links are for steam. Would be nice to note which ones are coming to consoles. Thanks again.
Great shout, I did consider putting it on, but given that its technically already out I didn't think it would fit the bill. I'll be on the next list though!
A while back I gave up on Cities Skylines because I spent more time installing mods in order to make it "playable" then I did playing. Since then I've been trying to find a city builder that I liked. A few on your list sound very interesting to me. Thanks for the video.
I don't know if this game really falls under the categories you have made ?? And considering it's been out for a while. Anno 1800 for console. I'm genuinely looking forward to that. I miss my pc gaming days and it's refreshing to see city building games starting to expand on console.
_I always enjoy a good list of upcoming games videos. And I'll have a look at the automation list. Particularly with Sastifactory having Update 7 soon!_
I played the demo of builders of Egypt and I quite liked it, the Greece on would be cool n all but I wish it was Rome, but the real question is, why did the devs bother making the same game multiple times but with different empires, when they could of merged them all and make it Anno 1800 style were you can start out in say Greece then travel to Egypt and build there getting unique resources you can only get there and Vice versa
I think i would love Cities Skylines, but there are too many DLCs. To get the base game and all of them is very expensive, and i'm not sure if anyone's laptop can run the game without melting.
The video is excellent. I am verydisapointed by the content (the games themselves). I feel like there are 3 games copied/pasted + a bunch of very indy titles. But 0 city builders ! City planners make cities with regulation aka : zoning. Not by making a pointless strait road with a hut on one side and a tool workshop on the other.
Only a couple of these games kind of look interesting. I had 2800 hrs in Cities: Skylines, but quit playing after the latest mandatory update because I like using mods which no longer work after the updates. Most of these games would have looked good around 2000, but there are a lot of better games that have existed. Conclusion, no thanks!
Sinergy copies Moebius artwork. It is not snazzy, it is award winning but something tells me they need authorization for that. I am prety sure they are ripping the art off without any acknowledgement.
Multiplayer is one of our top focuses for Thrive: Heavy Lies The Crown. Just today we released our Multiplayer test build to the closed alpha testers on our discord. Because yes we love city builders yet with having kids, playing single-player games is hard since I want to spend my free time with friends online as well. So we want to make sure Thrive: HLTC is fully multiplayer with the same experience as single-player.

Not much innovation. We need a real world map, minecraft size. Which should be easy. All flightsims use this. Then we need full freedom to build, and i would prefer realism vs cartoon (or voxel) style. All these samples rob older titles of their ideas in some form. No keepers

Laysara: Summit Kingdom was upposed to come out in Q1 of 2023??? It's now Q2!!!

There is Frostpunk 2 coming? :D WOW!
Great list! But Thrive: Heavy Lies the Crown link is not working
Helps a Lot
Thank you for the time and effort you put into this list. Ballads of Hongye is another intriguing city-building game that will be released soon.
Where is Sapiens? Or did that come up in a prior vid? Really amazing start - long way to go but a solid foundation.
Thank you for compiling this!!
Lysara looks really amazing!!😊
Gord sounds so cool
Great video!
What platform?
Much appreciate the effort! Looking forward to a lot of these games.

Thanks for the tip!
Great list, I look forward to Decembers list to see if Industries of Titan is on it, it should have been on the end list, it's so good!
City of Robots looks amazing. Look forward to see a playthings of this game.
great video, thanks heaps
doubled the number of items in my wishlist! :D Thanks!
Well done Sir
Awesome vid, nice job
Thanks!

Timberborn is my favorite as of right now 😁 so hooked on it
It's so good isn't it!

Great list! I did not know that scifi city builders existed as a category. The idea of ox carts and farmers has grown tiresome...
Orbital just out here wanting me to go broke lol
;)
There is also Industries of Titan and forgot the name of another one.
is there a game like farthest frontier but harder?
I'll keep a look out!
Is this for mobile?
_Settlers is going to be ages away. I do love a production line builder though._
Release date is in February so just around the corner
Was really expecting to see Gameloft's March of Empires though
why in this genre was no Sapiens and Seed city building game
Most of these games are not available yet, it's already Q2 2023!
I know! COME ON GAMES!!
Big and Beautifull video.
We need cities skylines 2 with better AI. DLCs don’t mean much when the core of the game is ancient
It would've been nice if you included if these where for just PC or if for PC nd console
Just PC!
