I resuscitated an unconscious girl who stopped breathing. After coughing and getting air, she told me she heard angels sing, and saw her body from above. She wouldn't lie to her rescuer, a minute after coming back to this world.

There is no greater act of adoration in the Christian Faith than this. This is Jesus present in the form of bread for all ages until the end of time.
@@eliseereclus3475 An evocative term. You raise an interesting objection. Cannibalism is the eating of another body which necessarily destroys that body. So one life is destroyed while another is maintained by absorbing the parts of the deceased. The partaking of Jesus under the forms of bread and wine does not conform to this paradigm. The Theological explanation is that Jesus as the Paschal Victim, presents himself as the complete person- sacrificed and risen. There is His physical presence in the form of bread which carries the person of Jesus (as our spirits are infused into our bodies) in both his human and Divine presence. It is called ‘transubstantion’ meaning that the accidents of bread and wine are still present but the reality is that it is Jesus in His humanity with the full presence of the Godhead being ‘in’ that bread. This great mystery has been prefigured from the time of Melchizedek king and priest of Salem, when he came out to meet Abraham bearing gifts of bread and wine. He is a figure of Jesus, being ‘without father or mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues as priest forever’ (Hebrews 7:3). This was 2,000 years prior to Jesus appearing and we are 2,000 years hence the coming of Jesus. Again this prefiguring of The Bread from Heaven is in the Book of Exodus where for 40 years the children of Israel were feed manna in the desert each morning. Then Jesus declares in John 6:48 “I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh…….. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me and I in him.” As with you, this disturbed His disciples, then Jesus said: “It is the Spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” The partaking of this most Holy Sacrament is transformative to the human spirit. It must be taken in the state of grace, that is, the recipient cannot be in a state of mortal sin. Jesus gives Himself as a unifier between Heaven and earth in reconciling the fallen human race with God the Father. His act of sacrificing Himself on the Cross is as an expiation for the sins of all humanity. This is what Divine Justice demands. This is God the Son in obedience to His Father’s will being sacrificed on our behalf: carrying all of our sins on Himself as a living oblation to God. We in turn are to live in imitation of Jesus’s life and offer ourselves in like manner to God. This is through prayer, penance and partaking of this Eucharistic (Thanksgiving) Sacrament. This reception of Jesus cannot be by just anyone, but by those who have been Baptised into the Roman Catholic Church, and who have confessed their sins in the sacrament of Confession. I hope that what I have said here makes it clear that ‘cannibalism’ and the reception of Jesus are distinctly different.

As i enter my 48th yr of priesthood I recall these wonderful hymns from my childhjood and through seminary and beyond.
Catholic meant universal and you could go anywhere in the world and go to Mass and we could understand it as it was all in Latin. Worst thing the church ever did was abandon Latin.
Yes it is hard, but it could be translated as we do for the deaf. When I hear these hymns now in my 70's they bring tears.

If your recollection is that "we could all understand it" when everything was in Latin, then your memory is playing tricks on you. It IS translated for those who don't understand Latin (who, unlike the deaf, have, for centuries, been the majority of members of the Church), and that's exactly what you have a problem with. The Church has not "abandoned" Latin; everything is done in Latin first, so there is one version that the whole world has in common, then it is translated into all the languages of world, with Latin still being used in liturgies occasionally. (For example, this specific hymn is used in Latin in many parishes on Holy Thursday.) Let's do some math: If you are in your 70s, your memories of the pre-Vatican II Church come from your childhood and teens. How much Latin did you understand when you were 12? Were you fluent by the time you were 18? If so, good for you, but surely you realize most Catholics were not. You're just okay with them not understanding. The Church isn't.

I’d play this for my very young first Grand child on our morning stroll around the neighborhood after breakfast in my weekly babysitting duty. I remember this from every Friday afternoon at Benediction at the Convent school I went to - like you I'm 80 (in July) and hearing this made me realise I can STILL remember some of the words! I guess I learned them 'parrot style' because I was never smart enough to take Latin!

I saw the thumbnail and thought, "That looks like Notre Dame in Lyon!" I cross-referenced with the picture I took of the altar from just about the same spot, and sure enough that it was! Truly immaculate church (no pun intended)! I was in awe the entire time I was there, and the view of the city from atop was astounding as well.

When l was a teen, many years ago, l was in my church choir and we sang this, among other Latin hymns. How l have missed hearing Gregorian.
I miss benediction, service, and these beautiful Latin songs.
My favorite translated line:

I played this one when my mother was dying.Feeds the soul. I still listen to this chant daily🙏

I’ve not heard this song before. I grew up Apostolic and was always told what I was doing wrong and how God was always so angry with me for the things I wanted to do and did (cutting my hair, wearing pants, painting nails, jewelry ect). I left the Apostolic church years ago and had so much trauma from it I’ve been very scared of God since. Lately, I’ve been feeling the call of Mother Mary. For the first time in my life I’ve truly felt peace. I’m not Catholic but would definitely want to consider it. This song really puts my soul at ease. I may not understand each word but I did read the translation. It’s beautiful and just shows that there is hope. There is love. There is a time for everything. I never thought I’d feel like this again. I’m praying Mother Mary helps me heal my religious trauma and my relationship with the Father and Christ Jesus 🙏.

“Pange lingua” is a medieval Eucharistic hymn composed by St. Thomas Aquinas for the Feast of Corpus Christi. It is also sung on Holy or Maundy Thursday during the deposition of the Blessed Sacrament in its place of repose where it is kept for adoration till Good Friday. The hymn expresses the doctrine that the bread and wine are changed into the body and blood of Christ during the celebration of the Eucharist.

Why is this music calming me down, my mind starts to wonder into somekind of beautifull abyss and my heart longs for "something" that's outside of this world?
I recently heard a priest on sensus fidelum say that Latin is the official language of the church, it speaks to our souls in a way that words we understand cannot. It answered for me why I am so attracted to the Latin mass and hymns… they lead us to our Lord.
