  • While in Ossett I went to Richmonds Butchers - a shop I had not been to before and I saw they were selling " Mucky Fat and I had to buy some to review ! so what was it like ?
Excellent in my opinion and something that I will buy again ! it is so full of flavour and brings back a lot of happy memories - I know it is not for everyone but for me this was excellent - I will buy this again without doubt and I score this 10 out of 10

Hi Graham and Yay the return of Layla!!! Dripping I always associate with Christmas Morning when we used to have Pork Dripping off the Christmas Roast with Salt and Pepper on Toast and then what was left was used for Roast Potatoes and Parsnips. Although if you hear protests outside it won't only be southern softies but the Vegan Brigade. I don't think there is a meat free alternative - drippings from a Carrot or a parsnip just aren't the same. Cheers Paul

Good Afternoon Paul, the Diva is back from her sickbed - I have many happy memories of dripping as my mother always used to save it from the meat she cooked and my dad and I had it for supper with salt and pepper as you say - oddly enough it was the subscribers Down South who complained saying it was a Northern thing ! but they eat Jellied Eels ! I know which I prefer ! I can not begin to imagine what a meat free dripping would be like ! long live Mucky Fat !! have a great afternoon my friend :-)

Mucky fat? Ha! Never heard it called that before, Graham. What I do know is that every time mum cooked any meat, the fat was tipped into an earthenware pot in the pantry and used for frying chips and roasting potatoes. Can't beat the flavour or memories...and we're still here to tell the tale!.

I've never had a beef dripping sandwich before so I can't comment on it truthfully but my mother said it was a staple food during the war era as butter was so rationed and my dad used it to have dripping sandwiches for work a lot but the best fish and chips are definitely cooked in beef dripping followed by lard 👍👍

Good Afternoon Robert , thank you for the comment - to be honest I am old and my mother always used to save the fat from the roasts and my dad and I would have it on a sandwich or toast for supper ! it is amazingly tasty and to be honest you cant really ask for anything better in a sandwich - I agree with you Fish and Chips cooked in Beef Dripping are always the best ! I really enjoyed this but then again I always do ! Beef Dripping and Beef in a sandwich is an amazing combination ! have a great afternoon my Friend :-)

Certainly does bring back memories Graham, when my mom had done the Sunday roast, she also used to save the fat & my dad would have it on toast in the mornings. He's soon to be 81 & still going, but he did used to be very overweight. Us kids never had it. Isn't it supposed to be a no-no now just like lard & nearly every other thing we eat & drink?

Don't believe in the preachers Kate if you fall into there trap and mindset you won't eat anything or drink anything remember a certain politician in the early 80's said not to eat eggs??? Then don't eat beef it's bad for your brain don't eat pork it's got swine feavor don't eat turkey and chicken it's got bird flu don't drink milk to much cholesterol I eat and drink what I want and not what the preaching people tell me to eat or drink 👍👍

Good Afternoon Kate, thank you for the comment - I too was brought up on things cooked in lard as was my dad and he is 95 - it is really nice and full of flavour and according to the experts it is now good for you ! - Lard health benefits include actually raising levels of good cholesterol. Dietary fats help the fat-soluble vitamins (A,D,E and K) to become absorbed into the body. Fats promote brain functioning, specifically learning, memory, mood control, and the manufacturing of hormones.- it really does make you wonder now that so many oils are bad for you ! - The oils which should be avoided for cooking are oils like soybean, corn, canola, sunflower, and safflower. These oils have unstable fats and will decimate the nutritional properties of your food.if we believed everything they say we would not dare eat anything ! have a lovely afternoon :-)
