- In today's Tech Thursday, Phu Vu from Epic Bmx shows us how to install brakes.
The brakes he installs today are generic 990 BMX brakes, aka as U-Brakes and they were coupled with a Linear Straight Cable (Rant Bmx). The brakes were installed on the 2020 Fit Bike Co Sleeper Frame, the Signature Bike for The Pro Rider from Huntington Beach, CA, himself, The Sleeper, and crank arm king, Ethan Corriere.
Tune in for Episode 2 which drops tomorrow, with Ethan putting the brakes to the test!

The glass and the cat killed me 😂
Hahahaha had to do it!
Bro I don't think there's anybody in BMX mechanic or Rider that can do brakes as good as you... but great tutorial. I learned watching yours
Thanks man! Really means a lot 😊💜
...whole time I’m peeking over to get a better glimpse of the Robinson 👀💯

@@owen687 doing abubaca's on all the street things?
You rock Alfredo!! You have a couch in Tampa, FL if you ever need it!
For new school brakes I use the Odyssey Evo 2.5, they are probably one of the best brakes right now.. As far as old/mid school I still use the old Dia Compe Bulldog with Tech 77 levers...
This. was. amazing!!!... I like brakes but haven't tried a lot of coasters .... this gonna help me with two old ass bikes too Phu I got you, y'all are madd funny .... yo let me borrow a dollar for 3 months lol Thanks happy new year
Bmx is going back to the early 2000 and late 90’s with new school moves.
The second glass effect shattered me😭
Literally 😂
@@AlfredoMancuso don’t think anyone was expecting it 😅

yo alf, the go pro light or something like that could really make the epic vids a little better, cheers. holidays and all that, have a good one.
Phu reminds me of alot of my vietnamese gangster homies from the late 90's to early 00's
havent even watched a minute of the video and im already freaking out just from the title
Hahaha feel you!
I have both front and back brakes for going old school. Business in the front, party in the back.
Ethan Corriere is by far the sickest street rider out right now!! So clean, fucking reverse manuals!!! Keeping bmx alive
So is the chrome spring black spring universal for left side right side? Also I guess it doesn't matter but I noticed that ends/beginning of the springs r different lengths. One is longer does it matter which goes in the cap hole or the brake arm hole?
Yo Alfredo. Talking about brakes, was just wondering if the brake pads would work on a chrome rim that flaked off??
Brake gang! Gang! Gang!
Epic thursday yay. Merry christmas alf. I turn 37 tomorrow. Does phu have any shorts that aren't cut offs? Lol
Tapping the breaks during crank arms gonna be his thing
You could do a 360 into a tornado find your bike in the trees and no matter what the right side of the bike is the right side side of the bike
do yall have a video on how to install front U-Brakes? thx
Well well well, ig breaks are taking over! #brakegang
Called it ☺️🤟🏻
Yyeee yeee brakes on lock broe
🤛🏽🤝🤘🏼🔒🔒
Ethan, weld you some posts for a full set of V brakes, ftw
More phu videos alf!
Got another one dropping tomorrow!
Ethan has a parking brake! But the frame still looks fresh.
So why are V-brakes used on race bikes and U-brakes on street/freestyle? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each? I guess the brake posts might be in a different position so it depends on what the frame is designed to accept but why would the frame manufacturers prefer one over the other?
As a non-BMXer (I'm more DJ and MTB) I'd guess that you need more power/less modulation for freestyle so the wheel is fully locked when you do a fufanu for example, but for racing you want more modulation and less weight, maximum power not so important?
Edit: Rule of thumb = approximately 1 inch.
No offense to any of the other BMX channels and what not....this was explained and demo'd so well and simple, I only had to watch it twice to get these MotherF^#/@n back brakes on properly. This video just doesn't come up when Googling bmx brake install, just happen to stumble on to it
What’s the difference between having brakes on seat stay or chain stay?.
No real difference. They use to go on chain stays but when sprockets got smaller and smaller. It's hard to get under the chain with tools for adjustments. So now alot have it on seat stays.
@@Smokey7186 good to know, wish my brakes were in my chain stay, looks way cleaner
A bike is not complete without a brake.
You are a wise man!
@@AlfredoMancuso thank you, I fell on my butt quite hard trying tail taps at our new skatepark here, it was too wet. I ride better without brakes.
I'm so excited I just can't try it...going to another video Just ride stay Alive..
Actually, the phrase "rule of thumb" simply comes from the usage of a thumb as a unit of measurement.
The v brakes are less complicated.
Now brake on bmx and later brakeless on mtb damn youth trend 🎅
Bahahaha tru tru
*forgot canti levers and roller cams for rim brakes.
is ethan on primo now?????
Alfredos vids REALLY BLOW now that he’s barely ever at oss
🤘🏼🤘🏼😇
I guess Its time to get brakes 🤷🏽♂️
Might be about that time!
Since the days I foretold coasters being the shit in street it has been time to get brakes. The younglings were just in need of time to see the light like me and Alf.
Brake gang and van Homan will save us.
Van effing Homan FOR LIFE
Next video on Gyro’s would be great👍🏻
If you want some help with gyros lemme know I got all the tricks for those.
Get at my man!
Got one coming soon!
all of that and there weren't even clips
Part 2 is for Christmas :)
21:00 I think Phu needs a Park Tool BT-2 Cable Puller to make his life easyer fitting brake's 👍🚲💨
Yo!! Phu's killing me here! Let me preface this by saying that I've been chasing my tail for a while now trying to dial my brakes in tight. Very little take up. So naturally, my pads are ever so close to the rim surface. But after every ride, I have to re-dial them because they'll touch one spot. < OCD NO! NO!
So, according to this, I had the springs swapped. So now I have the chrome one on the left=upside down right. But when I turn it like you show here, my spring unwinds. Not tighten up. WHAT THE PHU?1?1 #phufanu #brochachoindistress
I looked away for a few moments, noticed the video is going over 11 minutes and Phu still doesnt have the goddamn brakes finished off yet. Holy fuck dude, brakes are easy just put them on, max tighten your cable, give each spring a baby amount of tension, then loosen the barrel adjuster on the frame to suit you. This was painful dude.
Well this is coming from someone that knows what they’re doing. We create content who have never done this before. To each their own. Happy holidays ✊🏼
For the love of god... Please learn the focus modes on the camera!
Rule of thumb: comes from ye old days where you couldn't hit your "wife" with a stick bigger than your thumb.
Fucking trendiest tool in the game dude I wouldn’t even take this as a joke
Riding brakes... RIP Barspins and Tail whippets
